@@KinchReindl-eb3bc I'd love to see someone get a tip that he has no backhand and then find out during the match that that's because he has two forehands 🙂
Thoroughly enjoyed this match! Love hearing the John’s brothers commentary. Couldn’t believe how hard Collin was on himself. I was like, dude you’re doing great! It’s your left hand for Pete’s sake 🤣
Zane perhaps you can help me answer a question man. I play a bit and teach as well. I'm close to a 5.0 DUPR with extremely minimal work put in (played college tennis). I love the game and in trying to understand it more I cannot for the life of me understand why the pros don't serve harder in doubles. In every playing instance i've been in or taught in, serving hard is extremely advantageous and completely (imo from.my limited experience) worth the risk in doubles as well as singles however it still seems like pros are often content to just play serves in at medium speed and i cant get my head around it. I realize theyre playing lefty in this video but i was still surprised to see Guillermo who is clearly a quite good player serving in balls that were mid to low speed.
Whaaaaaat??? This is the collab ice wanted to see but never thought would happen. Even on their lefts, sheesh! Way better than me on a good day. That's why they're the best. So much fun. More!!!!!
Wow! Love to see the Johns boys. I'd be be proud just to have the opportunity to play with them in a rec game. But I don't think my pride could handle losing to them left handed, which I probably would 🥲
This was a surprisingly interesting match. It's one thing to see the Johns brothers dominate in a match, something else to see them play left-handed... and how well they actually did. I have no doubt that they could practice for a week and then easily dominated the 5.0s. This also made me realize how much strategy is a part of the game, and how the good players can out-think their opponents even if they can't outplay them left-handed.
This match was so fun to watch! I can't believe how good the Johns bros hands were lefty. I think Ben only missed like 2 drops the whole match! Insane!
Great job featuring this left-handed challenge, Zane! 🎉🎉🎉 Shows how amazing the Johns bros are! Do they take after you? lol Loved seeing their personalities come out, which we dont get to see as they have their game faces on during regular tournaments. Your 5.0 buddies are fun competitors. They should get tattoos where they got tagged by the GOATS...😂
That was a fun match to watch. Even though the Johns brothers lost, they played really well. They are probably 5.0. I would like to see a rematch after they do some left hand only drilling.
I’m a lefty. That was fun to watch. I’d give Ben & CJ a 5.0 rating because of their footwork in getting in position to hit, ability to win points on CJ’s serve, Ben’s body bags, and experience on strategy. They would clean up a lot of the missed returns and leaving the ball high.
Playing the off-hand makes you think differently about every shot and notice things about your dominant hand. I normally play lefty, but against my kids I sometimes switch. The first time I did so, I realized how much I change my grip for different shots; I never realized it until I was thinking about how to position the paddle. TL;DR: I'd recommend that everyone try switching hands once in a while to see what you learn about your game.
Super interesting content. The Johns Brothers showcase wise placement no matter what hand they use to play. Their comments to Zane highlight their intelligent gamesmanship. ו note that Ben’s patented backhand roll put away is much weaker with his left hand than his right hand. Question: are they doing this to keep up their own interest in the game or as part of their continuing pickleball development so they can surprise opponents with left-handed shots or two forehands in the middle?
I played opposite hand this morning. Usually don’t tell my opponents that I’ve switched ( normally left-handed ). My serve is the give away. It’s terrible.
5.0 lefty for sure, they were just trying hero shots alot and missed a bunch of returns but the ability to make shots is clearly still there left handed. Colin was a double forehand tennis player so he has a strong lefty drive too.
Would Ben and Colin ever try to win gold left handed in a tournament? I asked Ben when he was in Mesa beginning for the year if he thought he could win gold left handed, he said no. He should try to win gold it would be an accomplish not many could ever do. Plus he has won a lot of gold already right handed. This could be a challenge for him to make things interesting for him again. Don't you think!
You guys jumping to 5.0 with left hand shows how important court position and anticipation are , you both are world #1 for that reason ! It seems - left hand slow game would put you in trouble . So I would say - 4.75 ish . Sorry John’s! What an impressive serve with left hand 😮. Had fun watching this , very happy to see you doing this . How fun / fortunate it is to play with #1 pros like this . Given an opportunity, I would love to do this ! #pickleball rocks
I am fairly new to Pickleball. If a third gane would have been played where the Johns got to go back to their right hands, how would the 5.0 players have done ?
Honestly though the real question is, like how? How are they this good with left hand ? And is there a use for it in an open game (switching hands at times)
I'm guessing they've trained it at least a little bit. I don't know about pros but I've found it more natural to switch my left for certain shots. There are those rare shots that, even if you move as fast as you can, you just won't be able to get behind it in time actually backhand it... but switching hands will extend your range just enough. P.S. Just looked it up and saw a clip of Ben Johns doing it in a match.
They struggled to get to the net when serving in the second game. Trying to mostly play one side of their paddles in transition against 5.0+ opponents wasn't working. And then they didn't quite have reliable precision to dig themselves out of trouble with heroic shots.
Maybe, Ben was trying to be like Larry Bird when he scored 47 points in a game shooting all left handed shots again the Portland Trailblazers back in the day.
It's funny to see how emotionally distraught Collin was on his errors, as if he expects himself to be so much better as a lefty. I guess the competitive spirit is neither a lefty or righty!
Very entertaining! Sorry Johns brothers, but you aren't 5.0s at lefty...yet! I'm sure if you practiced/drilled for a few weeks you would get there no doubt.
I don’t think they practice lefty but they’re pretty adept. BJ plays with his friends lefty a lot, and CJ used to play both forehands in tennis I believe.
If they were allowed to hit a two handed backhand, it would have been different. If they were really playing lefty in a real game, everything to the right of their body, their “two handed backhand”, is just their regular forehand.
Funny how the production and video of these games are better than any done by the PPA lol
It is amazing. I'm watching PPA Vizzy right now on another monitor and it's posted at 1080p but most likely filmed at 720p. Everything is blurry.
Big difference in a live video vs a pre-recorded/edited video.
Big difference between a live stream and recording a video.
@@Mr.DJones and having the sunlight for everything without filters makes a huge difference too
well not having broadcast interruptions doesn't help either
The John's Brothers have a 5.0 skill level left-handed. That was a great video, and Collin's serve was impressive.
The Johns are just to funny! So humble and great sportsmanship all around, thank you Zane.
thats Ben, only Ben, not the other one... its Ben, he's the one you are talking about. B E N, Ben. The other is a sour puss.
Better footage than the PPAs. Instant replays were on point. Need more of these!
Just showcases how good the John’s are, especially Collin. Def doesn’t get enough credit but it’s painfully obvious watching this just how good he is
Yet the railbirds think Ben should dump him for someone else. 🙄
hes good against 5.0's but is often the problem when playing other high level pros
First time seeing the Johns bros use actual Gen3 paddles haha
That was fun to watch! Love seeing the Johns so relaxed and having a good time! Thank you Zane! 😅😄👍
Collin's lefty serve is better than his righty one, lol
In tennis he used his left hand for ground strokes instead of a righty backhand

These 5.0 girls make so many errors!
I would like to be the first to formally invite the John's bros to play in a 5.0 lefty tournament in NY! Great vid!

I’ve only ever witness pros switch hands when they go for a really long reach. Gives more stability and power to a fully extended backhand

Paddletap will let you do it. I know Anna Bright and Jdub play in them every once in a while for practice.
Next match with "trainer" paddles for the pros.
u d think that playing lefty they would have collin on the right since he has a better forehand
Collin serves better lefty than righty lmao
Who's hoping for a righty Ben Johns vs. 2x 5.0s?!? 🤞
Should have played 3rd game right handed for all the marbles.
Would help the wannabees if Colin and Ben let us know how many hours they practice lefty
Pros vs 5.0s with 2 serve attempts
4.5
Don’t care if their the best in the world or not, if I lost to someone playing with the opposite hands than normal I’d quit 😂
Very entertaining! Sorry Johns brothers, but you aren't 5.0s at lefty...yet! I'm sure if you practiced/drilled for a few weeks you would get there no doubt.
Fairly sure they practice with their left hands. You don't just switch hand and play like that no mater how talented you are.

4.99 lefty dupr - cant give them 5.0 due to the missed match point return into the net for the loss! haha.
There is no way the guy in the peach is a 5.0! He couldn't hit a third shot drop if his life depended on it.
, you can’t really recover. In pb, it’s not that. You gotta laser focus.
As a lefty this makes me want to vomit 😂
Watching that first point....oh this should be ugly. Ummmm....NO
How do those two have a DUPR above 5.0...can't even hit a deep cross top line drive... SMH
Chipmunk Ben disappearing as the year progresses
