I have 2 rx570 with this simptom. I was suspecting the PCI express wasn't working, this is a good place to start from on my next break from covid fighting as a technician inside this hospital. Hope & illusion is what pushes the world ahead.
    Thanks!
I'll try to post as soon as I can disassemble those cards and check this.

Unbelievable this actually worked!!! I had an Asus RX580 that would reliably fail 20 minutes after power up. I removed heat sink and fan assembly, cleaned off heat transfer grease from GPU, then heated the board up with my heat gun. I slowly heated the whole board to about 170c then heated the vram chips and GPU to between 187-200c for about five minutes. I used an infrared thermometer to monitor temperatures. After letting it cool I applied fresh grease re-assembled and powered up. I have been running GPU benchmarks for 2hrs and board is working perfectly. Thanks!

Hi Eli, I'm from germany and was looking for a video about repairing a RX570/580. My 570 died last week and I wondered if you could have a look? I like the idea of things beeing repaired and not thrown away even if it is economically nonsense. Great video btw, I really admire your profound knowledge of electronics ;-) Best wishes ...retox

You say we have 12 volts and the board is not in position to allow us to see what you are touching and how you decided that was the point to touch. You say you are checking the phases. Great channel for those of us who like to see how things work and sometimes don't work. And how to go about fixing them. I have an RX 580 (14 months old)that works fine till you start to load windows 10 then the fans stop video goes black. This started a few days ago after bios reported the card overheating. I disassembled the card found the heat pad's in incorrect positions and some folded over. What can I order as far as replacing the pads? Purchased some from Amazon but not sure if they are correct for this application. Also are their card-specific kits you can order or is it mostly DIY. When I was young we did like you tried to fix it ourselves, sometimes we succeded and other times we failed, but we learned something by doing it and not just buying a new one. I'm happy to see others with that same curiosity thank you, also how would I get this card to you if my efforts fail?

Hi Eli, first of all nice vídeo I'm a tech from Argentina and I'm having an issue with my Sapphire Rx 580 nitro plus, maybe you can give a me an advice of what can be the problem with it. When I put the card on the pci slot the motherboard doesn't power on. I've tried it with 4 motherboards and it goes the same with each one. All mother's work fine without the card pluged in, ¿ in this video when you put the card on your mother is power on ? If no, maybe a can do a step for step like you do to know if a regulator or a driver is in bad state. Thanks for your time and keep the good work :D

    Hello.
    Great thanks for your video.
I'm experiencing another kind of problem (sorry for digging out this old video) with a RX 580 Armor 8Gb.
    I'm on a new computer (Aorus AX370 Gaming K7 with latest firmware, 900W PSU, 16gb DDR4, NVMe SSD drive, ...) running Windows 10 x64.
The graphic card is a second hand (probably a mining card) and I've a "error 43" but a clean display without any artifacts (but no hardware acceleration). I swapped GPU firmware with one corresponding to memory chip on techpowerup but not solved the issue. Tried to uninstall driver / reinstall (different version... tried crimson version too... no better result). Tried pixel clock patcher... no more luck.
I managed to make the card running one time on Ubuntu (played witcher 2 about 1 hour without any problem with ultra details) but no more after a computer reboot (the computer freeze on booting... black screen for a while and all fan running full throttle about 5 seconds before a reboot. maybe an UEFI issue ?).
The MSI support doesn't give any more help for old graphic cards and have not issued the latest stock firmware for the card.
Is anybody encountered the same problem ? Is there a solution (hardware component to check, software to install) ? The only "old" thing on my computer is the screen (not a 4K capable monitor). Can it be the origin of the problem ?
    Thanks for any help

This may sound fanboyish but from my own experience I personally never had a Radeon card die on me but I have had several Nvidia cards die on me. Maybe it's because Nvidia mass produces and sells more cards and there are bound to be issues? I don't know, but I haven't had great luck with them.

Hello, im really happy you made this video because it might be the same problem im facing with my RX580 which do not power at all. 12V fuses have blown, but no short found, the core takes amps from the coils of the power stages but not right after the blown fuses. The situation for me is quite differente as i don't own a motherboard yet, i have a lab PSU and multimeter and i was wondering if it's enough to target the GS7103 as faulty, or even the NCP81022. Do the PCIE connections has to be feed as well during the process ? In my case, if i feed the 12V rail and bypass the fuse, i don't get output from the GS7103. Wish i found the guilty part.

Im subscribing. I need help, pls!!! So, my Asus rx 580 4GB, VRM got burned when i was on google chrome, not when i was playing. Before to send it to warranty it was automaticaly overclocking (by the driver) to 1430 Mhz and was maintaining it flawlesly. Now the drive is still overclocking it at 1430, but it crashes, it crashes even at 1380 Mhz, and I cant manually increase the voltage anymore. They've replaced 3 mosfets and a mosfet driver. I don,t exacly know how this voltage controler works, I'm a noob. The voltage fluctuates, i have a brand new PSU 600W, active, and nothing.
How do i fix it? Can i find the origynal schematics? I think that they replaced the mosfet driver with the RX480 's one.

By the way, I have two issues, maybe you can help me with them.
1st: Gigabyte 980Ti, works fine, but has a cracked solder joint on a VRAM module (artifacts when slightly moving it). How can a see which module needs a reflow? I cant remove the heatsink as the GPU would then overheat.....
2nd: "Dead" Gigabyte R9 270X, crashes under load. I suspect the GPU itself. Could this be possible? Or is it also possible that VRMs are shot?

    quick question!
12v fuse near PCie its sorted 2 G.
if inject 2V it eats near 3amps and chipset gets a little hot.
get this i used the external PSU to start the card with 6-7 v and was stopping at 3 amps (internal protection) but the phase to GPU was ramping up to 0.6v the only thing was missing was Memory phase that was 0v.

Hello I have an MSI R9 380 it works just fine, never crashed, no overheat fans spin normally BUT only outputs video through DVI I and DVI D ports no displayport nor hdmi port. How could I fix it or what may be the cause of this?

Hi, I just admire the way you work.. I have the exact Same card, it works and shows video signal but the fan coolers and the led where says "sapphire" brand, are not working.. Any hints? I can't use it because it will get hot because of fans not working

I have here a RX580, 1,5Y old, from day one sometimes artifacs, but not always. Brought it back to seller, they say they tested but could not confirm my problem. Now warrenty is over.
Not overclocked, tried in two machines, now with new setup X570 Aorus Elite, ryzen 3600, new memory, new PSU. Still artifacts. Latest BIOS in VGA (from gigabyte) and everything is up-to-date (latest drivers from AMD). Just reinstalled W10 x64, no SW installed and at boot it glitches, also freezes shortly after boot to Windows, also random artifacts in game (BF1, BF5, Star Wars BFII). Temperature is 50degree celcius, fan at full does not matter.
I have underclocked it to base frequency (1257), minus 200mhz memory and +5-10% power to try but no difference.
    Any thoughts?

Man a I know this video is more than 2 years old but still the best video of diagnostic of a GPU.
I have a problem with Sapphire RX570, fans are spinning but no image :-( win 10 recognises the card but gives code 43 error. both BIOS 's are working, I tried to reflash both of them and it worked but stil no image. Checked the fuses with multimeter and all 3 are OK. If you see this please give me some advice.

I also tried reinstalling drivers with no luck. I have tried another GPU SAPHIRE RX 590 and it's working perfectly with same drivers.
