You 100% need to watch him play gravity live in LA. That single handidly made me pick up a guitar and learn to play. You will be blown away. It really showcases his genius as a guitar player much more than his studio stuff. This song was more of a throwback to sob rock style which is definitely 80s inspired. You're also correct about him being a world renowned guitarist. He's easy top 10 on most people's list and likely more like top 5 or 3.
Omg! Now that you've heard this version, listen to the slow blues version, hes in a studio and playing that same pink guitar... I playlisted that one...
Mayer is an artist that gone through different style phases in his career. This particular song is from a more recent album that was celebrating an 80s rock pop style. He is very accomplished blues rock guitarist especially in his side project The John Mayer Trio. The guest backing vocalist at the very end is Maren Morris, am accomplished artist in her own right. The Keyboardist, Greg Phillinganes, has also toured with Toto which is why the keyboard vibe seems familiar.
I’m always looking for new John Mayer reactions, as popular as he is he doesn’t get enough attention in the TH-cam reactors community, hope you guys come back to his catalogue, any song from the Where The Light is show is gonna blow you away, just give Slow Dancing in a Burning Room a try and you’ll see what I mean
John Mayer is kind of a guitarists guitarist. Recognised as one of the greats by his peers but never quite gets the same public recognition as he should because he crosses the pop threshold where he is taken less seriously. Dig in though cause he is a beast of a musician. The obvious comparison to me is Eric Clapton. Huge inspiration for him and you can hear it. Loved when he and Eric played together live playing Layla and Eric just let him unleash.
any song from his concert film "where the light is" is a masterpiece. Gotta be one of the best concert films of the last 25 years. All these performances from that concert are A+ : Slow Dancing in a Burning Room. Neon. Gravity. Belief. Free Fallin'. Wait until Tomorrow. I Don't Trust Myself with Loving You.
The entire album this was taken from was meant to mimic classic 80's rock songs.. Mayer is very versatile and has songs going into blues, pop, folk, country, rock, and so on. Very unique artist 👌
Each album has its own theme and this one is a tribute to music, but more to Rock/Pop, from that era. You should listen to Wild Blue or New Light live, the official videos.
@barsandbarbells2022 great reaction! For some reason, even though the genre is different - something tells me you would very much enjoy Dan Fogelburg, "Same Old Lang Syne " or "Leader of the Band". Dan has some quality of voice and the story lines are very emotive. Add a tissue box!
The album is called sob rock flipping the sob around looks like 80s rock and the entire album is 80's inspired. This one is inspired by toto. Like wild blue is inspired by sultans of swing by dire straits.
I really liked your reaction, but I would also like you to react to more of your songs. Since Any Given Thursday (2003) I think, "Where The Light Is" on L.S 2008, or any other song from this same album from "Sob Rock"
This song is solid, but it wouldn’t make my top 20 to show Mayer’s incredible talents strumming the guitar… Gravity live in LA is as good as it gets after SVR.
JM is an incredible artist - singer, songwriter, guitarist, but honestly - this specific song isn't one of his very best. Just "ok" imo which is still enjoyable in his case but if you decide to go there - there's a whole world of elite musicianship to discover in his catalogue - especially live. Thx for a great reaction.

Could not agree more. Slow Dancing in a Burning Room from the same show. Daughters from that show as well.
John Mayer - Gravity live from LA is awesome 🔥
He also has a few solo acoustic songs from that same concert, specifically “Neon” is fantastic🎸
He's such an excellent guitarist.

The inspiration for the look of video and song was Clapton's Forever Man Song

Great reaction. Waiting on the world to change is a classic!

'In Your Atmosphere Live in LA' is enigmatic

Absolutely must do Gravity performance from 2007! Just awesome stuff!
John Mayer - Gravity live from LA
The keyboardist playing on this great track was Greg Phillinganes, who funnily enough played for amongst many others Toto! Great video!
Bigger than My Body, Why Georgia, lots more. Extremely talented and deserves more than a label “Yacht Rock”. C’mon guys.
I heard that John Mayer was going for the 80’s sound. I think he achieved his goal.
🔥♥️🔥♥️⚘️ Love this. Thank you both, for this reaction.⭐️⭐️
“Daughters” by John is great.

A tip from Uncle Kicky: Asking a real musician if their music can be classified as yacht rock is a good invitation to get a punch in the head. ;)
Bodies a Wonderland, gravity, vultures , Stop This Train all great songs

Definitely do Gravity Live in LA
Those are congas, John my home boy from Connecticut.
He does a great cover of "wait till tomorrow" by jimi hendrix, Live in LA.
I nevrr got into Mayer, but am thinking of goving it more of my attention.

You gotta go back to early John Mayer. Try Georgia. Loved his early stuff the most.
