Secrets to Superior Cognitive Performance (Without Drugs)

- Nutrition is far more powerful than drugs to improve cognitive performance.
We start by looking at cocaine, Adderall, and Ritalin, and show why these drugs cannot possibly hold a candle to nutrition.
Optimal nutrition can definitely optimize the function of dopamine, norepinephrine, acetylcholine, histamine, creatine, and the methylation system, and in doing so can simultaneously optimize focus, motivation, sustained attention, and mental flexibility, and methylation, all while eliminating anxiety, depression, and distraction.
Yet, popular nutritional cognitive stacks in the nootropic space do not have convincing evidence behind them, and this is probably a result of them trying to do too many things in one capsule.
This presentation covers the low-hanging fruit of nutrition for brain power, supplements that help, the importance of individual nutritional optimization, and the central power of finding one's genetic "health super-unlock."

Great stuff. Thanks, Chris.
To the person who asked below for a tl;dw, the low-hanging fruit for better cognitive performance (eating a well-rounded, nutrient-dense diet):
- eat one third of your plate as protein and diversify your protein across meat, poultry, fish, shellfish, dairy, and eggs
- eat nose to tail, or at least include 4 to 8 ounces of liver per week and bone broth each day
- eat one third of your plate as red, orange, yellow, and green vegetables, always including some dark greens
- get several servings of calcium-rich foods per day, such as dairy bones or cruciferous vegetables like kale and broccoli
- make a daily "natural multivitamin" by including 1 or 2 ounces of liver, 1 or 2 oysters or clams, a tablespoon of nutritional yeast, and a source of vitamin C such as bell peppers
More context
Supporting methylation / MTHFR so not in a state of low methylation continuously using up frontal cortex activity in response to negative stimulus, exhausting cognitive capacity (?)
,
& COMT enzyme activity
Having balanced methylation to balance dopamine pool & spikes (brain reads spikes relative to the pool size)
Too much COMT methylation = dopamine pool smaller , dopamine pulses higher [tilted towards dopamine pulses] (= easily distracted, impulsive, shifting focuses)
Too little COMT methylation = high dopamine pool, low relative pulses (less transition between states of thinking or focuses)
& Doing it with nutrition so not tipping over to extremes
riboflavin foods especially for mthfr
Having good ATP production (good thyroid activity , copper iron levels, low PUFA in diet etc)
Protein etc
It's a simplistic model though. I have good cognition but fit in the group that often have sticky thinking loops & use prefrontal cortex to settle (manually returning attention to something here X times until moved on from, telling brain that's done for now were moving on), and get overly locked in on a focus with less manual switching. So fit in both sides which breaks the idea
But could be worth a try to target I guess for a broad take
@@ayy2193 is all this stuff for people that DONT have ADD/ADHD or for people that Do have ADD/ADHD? or for both? im pretty surprised their isnt a specific testing protocol where you can up or lower certain nutrients etc to get an effect close to as effective as Aderrall, or maybe their is testing/ protocol and its just not in this video, this video just seems like general recommendations for support but not something that an be targeted to support someone on the same level as Adderall would
Why not dairy for calcium? I was under the impression that it was a much more bioavailable source than greens. I know some people trouble digesting it, but personally milk makes me feel really good (and I personally have to be careful with cruciferous greens which often make me gassy and bloated).
This presentation is a gem!
Hate Cocaine, what a crappy drug.
But Coca tea is awesome! Bought a whole bag on Ozora festival from a old Incan lady. Chewed some aswell. Pure but mild energy boost, better mood and the oxygen uptake was crazy, no side effects, crash at all. I felt really refreshed all week.
Wish I could find seeds or leaf in Sweden.
Interesting. Now I’m gonna have to find it on the dark web
I tell everyone this! I had coca tea once it it was fantastic. I was not high. But wow, I had a great day at work. I had used cocaine previously, and habitually. F that. What a stupid time of my life.
🇨🇦/🇺🇸... One thing that I find SO disheartening is when I speak of "nutrient density" to people and suggest "Eat Liver" "DON'T discard the skin from chicken" "Order regular chicken wings and gnaw on the bones rather than order boneless chicken wings" SO MANY PEOPLE say "ewwww... nah, I don't eat liver" or "ewwww... you won't find me eating that greasy chicken skin.... or the skin from the Thanksgiving turkey!!!" "or, what's the point of wasting your time gnawing on the chicken wings!!!???" THAT, ALONE, Chris, makes me depressed for the people I love or care about!!
Next level info. Thanks Chris
You're a revolution Dr.
Awesome. explanation!
This is pure gold
dopamine seems like the master regulator of your entire physiology, I noticed aswell that more than anything a dopamine agonist seemed to have a greater effect on my overall health than most other attempts with diet and supplements
A friend recommended DNA reading -> I am currently waiting on the results, so I can get them analysed. Last few years I've struggled with having less attention span, forgetfulness (which I don't recall ever having), low motivation to do ANYTHING... and really struggling to prioritize things in life... Very annoyed, judgy and finding myself overthink(every little thing that I remember DID NOT matter to me before) a lot. Used to be vegan for 2.5 years... Then really messed up my diet in the past year or so... This was very helpful video :) thank you for the upload.
I have started taking creatine monohydrate and it is a total game changer.
@@QSnarfhi, what is your experience with it?
@@lalouloune6156 With Natto? Hard to say... it's a little difficult to tell what is what without tests, and i do look for other sources of B12. I just don't want to eat animals if I can help it. Since B12 is microbial, seems like our guts should make it regardless of diet - so what is interfering? It's been a long time since I've listened to this video so I suppose I should listen again.

Brilliant. Thanks Chris!
Chris thank you so much for this!!
There is something missing in this explanation and I think you've left out the inattentive ADD type before in one of your answered questions on ADHD and methylation. I fit the fast COMT category based on the picture study at min 31:00, the mental exhaustion study and other symptoms I read, it seems to correlate with conscientiousness and neuroticism (slow comt higher in both). I can also exclude the low methylation category min 30:00, but I also don't suffer the symptoms of high methylation (instability, hyperarousel), rather the opposite: Too much stability und too little arousel leading to anhedonia like symptoms, procrastination and paralysing base satisfaction that keeps me from achieving my goals. Stimulants like ADHD medication or external pressure definitly helps. What kind of MTHFR/COMT combination would this be? Or what could cause opposite symptoms of high methylation despite having high methylation?
Lol that video escalated quickly.
I was in peru last summer, the real reason they use coca is because it battles the effects of altitude sickness. Peru has the second highest city in the world, and cuzco is the highest large city in the world I believe.
Would be curious your thoughts on nicotine related to this field of study. Whether tobacco-free pouches, gum, or patches. Nicotine seems to have quite a few interesting benefits when separated from the normal inhalation and/or tobacco vehicles of use.
I would love to know more about this too.
Great content.
Cocaine for health is a great idea. however the addition of top less women and disco lights may cause exhaustion 😂😂😂
His substack is looking like it is worth it after watching this video.
Erm what happened to the “details schee-metails” bit 🙄😬🙊❤️
i have adhd and do pretty much everything you mention in this video and more, however i still struggle with focus and cravings (random checking phone or snacking). am i just fucked? stims (caffeine and nicotine) and ritalin seems to relieve these symptoms, and allow me to get things done - but havent found a "natural" way to do fix it
I read somewhere that when we get tired it’s actually our brain that is tired, not the muscles. It seems crazy that without training a person’s muscles/ cells/ mitochondria can support a 9 hour hike in the mountains ( without pain the next day) because of coca leaves, unless the first statement is true.
Perhaps the reason why some people without ADHD have increased mental energy is because the have insulin resistance in their brain and the stimulant or increase in neurotransmitters temporarily fixes that????
I have a female friend that has narcolepsy, they gave her Adderall and she was able to function well. I think she actually had more of a gut disbyosis metabolic syndrome going on.
on a similar note: in the past i've always felt tired and needed a nap after going on a hike. i've recently been taking a b complex plus some choline and glycine, and i noticed after going on a day long 15 mile hike I wasn't tired at all afterwards, just a bit sore.
Can you please do a deep dive on cholesterol?
🇨🇦/🇺🇸... CLASSICALLY, "healthy adults" who are stating that they are taking these drugs to help cognitive function, are college students, interns etc, who are doing so under stress and lack of sleep which mimics ADHD. The rigor of the "scientific studies" probably precludes such stress and lack of sleep. (my statement is simplistic, I realize) What do you think?
What can I do for schizophrenic?
If creatine straight up reduced the need for methylation by half, wouldn't more people report feeling better using it? 50% is a substantial decrease
Many people do report feeling better lol
I do feel pretty good with creatine
What if i have mhftr mutation with autism and ADHD
Does using creatine help with better methylation
100% the best methylation sup I have found. 60% of Methylation goes to creating creatine so if you supplement you free up all of that for other processes.
@@SonicDephectDo you know if creatine spikes insulin?

Could you please name the parameters we should have analysed to get a complete picture of our methylation capacity? Thank you!
Why do you not use timestamps?
The sad thing is that I know sooo many people who would greatly benefit from this information, but they're too mentally inflexible to accept the information! I have given up trying to tell them, they keep going to doctors and in spite of the fact that they are worse, they keep going back. By the way there is supposed to be B12 in Natto.
Chris I have not finished your video yet so I’m sorry if you already addressed this. Don’t antihistamines lower choline? So if someone has panic attacks and they take an antihistamine should they then supplement with choline to compensate?
thx for sharing, it will save my a**
34:00!

Btw, Chris do you know what are the side effects of Hydroxyzine (mitochondria, b-vitamins etc.) ?
How about MAO? Do you know about Brunner syndrome and results of no MAOA?
Hi Chris, does the 24 g quinoa refer to cooked or raw quinoa? Cheers!
Quick question is choline required for methyl folate to work properly ?
not to feel sick I practically must eat what my dogs do
I prefer b1 and b6
is there any reason to avoid sunflower lecithin? I understand getting nutrients that are hard to balance from food, like B vitamins or the various minerals, but choline?
I'm actually wondering about the yeast recommendation. As I see through what I do, a lot of people have some kind of dysbiosis in their gut. I don't really think giving them yeast is helpful, on the contrary. Of course we could say that if you don't have a problem, you can eat, but I also think there are a lot of people who don't really know they have a dysbiosis, so it's more like a time bomb.
This is dead yeast, they can't grow or settle in the gut, its allowed on the anti-candida diet
I fixed my problems with candida like 10 years ago (had it from childhood) but think once you had it, you better avoid yeast. Body has kind of memory of this I guess.
@@Mo-yj3wf Are u suggesting candida feeds (cannibalizes) on nutritional yeast? Because its certainly not able to grow or come back to life in the stomach. Its dead.
What yeast are you talking about lol if it's nutritional yeast it's dead it has zero effect on candida if you mean yeast in sourdough bread or kefir then it's actually the best way to heal candida (and there is no smth even close in effectiveness)
what if you mix them together for the ultimate performance!
Wonder how to activate the B12 in blood, as get high lab results but feel tired. Brewers yeast for me caused sores in corner of mouth (angular cheilitis) which can be low B's, Zn, iron, but taking a B12 helped it go very quickly. Maybe allergic to BY?
What about antihistamines that don't cause sleepiness like Loratadine?
Chris, do you you think tracking respiratory rate could be useful (I can get data from my CPAP machine in addition to what I can observe when awake)? I've started to hear that this can be used to gauge whether or not choline should be supplemented, but could it have other applications as well? (My CPAP data actually does show a worsening of respiratory rate while supplementing choline.)
What is the best way to find out if you have low methylation?

So what your saying is .. let's decriminalize COCAINE BABY 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Hi! After this video I think it’s stupid to not take creatine ( I eat a pound of groundbeef but it’s clearly not enough). Would like to know if it spikes insulin. Can I take it in a fasted state or better after my OMAD? Maybe consider protein shake in the morning and take it with it?
I still have some health problems like low energy/sluggish thyroid/Hashimoto; seasonal allergies. High homocysteine and MTHFR 2 x +/- polimorfism. I don’t know all the othere stuff ($) but I feel I have sluggish COMT too.
Realy need a next game changer (after low carb/carnivore diet). I have added recently a lot of suplements to optimise thyroid hormons and mitochondria. Will try benfotiamine from next week too. Maybe creatine is a reasonable step/puzzel in optimalisation of my methylation.
PS: sorry if my English isn’t correct.
Not sure of your beef source but aged beef has more histamines and can cause the symptoms you’re explaining for those with histamine intolerance. If so, look for a local source of non aged beef and see how you do. Also, some people have a hard time obtaining their energy source from ketones. If so, adding some fruit to the diet will help
Sunflower lecithin is a good source of choline.
What do you take for COMT
you don't get sick on cookedmeat I get even sick on that it has to be raw otherwise I get very badly stomach age or it comes out like this is not normal

I agree, guy releases a 50minute video without timestamps, like everyone is going to have the time to figure out if the video is useful for them.
Why does it sound like you are in a tunnel?
It helps you focus, works even better if you watch the video through a toilet roll.
I think you are wrong about liver and organs, but i cant justify why. It seems that only muscle-meat-based carnivores go on long term. The organ eaters quit in a few years.
