In 1906 the Olympia Brewing Company, owned by Leopold Schmidt, constructed what is now called the "Old Brewhouse" of red Chehalis brick, lumber hauled by horses from Ward Lake, and Tenino sandstone trim. The Old Brewhouse is one of the community’s most iconic structures and is seen by thousands of people every day from Interstate 5. Over the years the Old Brewhouse fell into disrepair. The City of Tumwater has taken a number of actions designed to protect and revitalize the Old Brewhouse for generations of Tumwater residents to come, as it serves as the last reminder of the flourishing riverside industries that once formed the heart of this town.

We toured the brewery in the early 80s. What a fun time that was, and I hope the Falls Terrace restaurant is still going strong!
A time forgotten. The Nerratior was a wonderful boss to work for. I as a worker am so blessed to work for a company that was a blessing and careing. So longing for the return of human careing that has been lost due to the greed of todays standards.
This is our history and it must be saved.

I miss that old steam whistle. You could hear it all the way out by the Gull Harbor Mercantile, perhaps further.
LOL There were dozens of times when I drove through Tumwater on I-5, saw the sign saying OLYMPIA BREWING CO. TOURS DAILY and thought, 'I'll have to go in there one day.' I didn't know they boarded it up in 2003.
Such an awesome building and historic sight. I hope it will be saved.
