We toured the brewery in the early 80s. What a fun time that was, and I hope the Falls Terrace restaurant is still going strong!

I miss that old steam whistle. You could hear it all the way out by the Gull Harbor Mercantile, perhaps further.

Who can I contact for old historical photos of the old Tumwater? It’s a shame what they did, to just let so many of these historical places die out.. all the caffès .. shame

What is with the title??? And what ANNOYING MUSIC and the host is pretty annoying too... Idk why they'd film it like this too, like it's a music video lmao. Sad what the outside of the brewery looks like now... they made sure not to show that

This was exactly what I was looking for. Now if only they'd make a video on the other brewery

Looks like Tumwater's primary goal is total deforestation... They're literally targeting every last significant patch of forest in this area for clearcutting. So misguided, shameful and wrong! Future generations will live on a dead planet if we keep acting so unconscionably towards our planet's living systems like this. This road benefits no one and hurts everyone!

Thanks for these videos of the REAL history of Washington. My ancestors knew your ancestors, Mr. Trosper. Gabriel and Keziah Jones, and Joseph Smith Broshears. 👍🏻

I am a direct descendent of Gabriel and Keziah Jones who were in the Simmons group spoken of here. And yes, Blue Waters, I’m sure they’d never have made it without the help of their friend, George Bush. I have known this story for decades and always wondered why, since this is the real beginning of Americans in this state, why the story wasn’t written in every Washington State History book, and why no documentaries, films, videos telling this historical story. I found very few books, and no other media until I came upon these wonderful TH-cam videos. The name, Trosper, was familiar to me, I believe I have one or more books or publications by that author. Thank you so much for these wonderful videos. I have shared them with my family. This particular video I had to show my daughter. She had recently purchased a home on the shores of the Cowlitz River. Until watching this video, I wasn’t aware that my ancestors followed the Cowlitz to get to their destination on the DesChutes. Now, I stand on her deck, watching the river, and realize, my ancestors, her ancestors, and that historical group of pioneers, passed right in front of where I’m standing. Cool. Then, I wonder, …how do you canoe up a river? Seriously, I know nothing about boating, canoeing, etc. how does one paddle against a current? At any rate, I am loving these videos. Since my family history goes back to this time in this place, I also descend from one of the French Canadians working at Cowlitz Landing, his native Cowlitz wife, and also to the Broshears family that came later with Doc Maynard and the sister of Michael Simmons, Elizabeth Broshears Simmons. Many of the names mentioned in these videos, I have seen on documents, Land Donation Claims, census records, etc, in my family tree research. It’s so nice to see their stories told here. 👍🏻

A time forgotten. The Nerratior was a wonderful boss to work for. I as a worker am so blessed to work for a company that was a blessing and careing. So longing for the return of human careing that has been lost due to the greed of todays standards.

From what I have managed to research it seems that George Bush does not get near enough recognition for his role in establishing Tumwater. His parents both worked for a rich man who left them a small fortune when he died. George financed the wagons of his friends and brought his gold and many seeds to the West Coast. Without the generosity of George Bush and family many future pioneers might not have survived their first winter in Wa. He really is the 1st Father of Washington state. I would like to see more about him being mentioned in the school's WA history instead of Lewis & Clark. To me he was a remarkable man. as was his wife Isabelle. His friends loved him as did the settlers in Tumwater who stood up for him in the new WA legislature to insure that him and his sons got the land he homesteaded, deeded to them. At that time Black people were not allowed to own property.

So the lawn they used to mow with a lawnmower on a rope at the brewery was right where the Streetcar line ended? Just on the East side of the Boston St Bridge?

It is family lore that my grandfather, Reuben White Warren, was the 1st white child born in Tumwater on 12 Feb 1854. He was the son, 4th child, born to Alanson W Warren and Abegail Bates White. Their 3rd child, Hattie Ann Warren, was born in Jiard, Cold Water county, Michigan on 5 Sep 1849, but died on 25 Dec 1852 in Portland Oregon. Probably after coming west on the Oregon Trail. I don't know when they travelled north to Tumwater, but probably in 1853 or 1854. Their 6th child, Alice Marilda Warren, was born on 7th Oct 1856 in Warren Mill, Thurston county, Washington. Their 5th child, born in 1855, died early, probably soon after birth. Their 7th child, Josephine Warren, was born on 1 Aug 1859 in Grand Mound, Thurston county. Alice died on 20 Jun 1864 and Josephine died on 4 Dec 1868, both in Grand Mound. Reuben died in 1925 in Elma Washington. So, I have enjoyed listening to the series on the history of Tumwater. Any info that you can provide about the Warrens in Thurston County in the 1850s and 1860s I would appreciate. Like, where was the Warren Mill in Thurston county??

LOL There were dozens of times when I drove through Tumwater on I-5, saw the sign saying OLYMPIA BREWING CO. TOURS DAILY and thought, 'I'll have to go in there one day.' I didn't know they boarded it up in 2003.
