It seems like the people commenting here missed the point of his joke. This was the Dynasty/Unmasked tour, a promo on Australian TV. He was clashing heads with Gene and Paul over the band's direction, and had in fact made up his mind to leave because they weren't "rock'n'roll" any more. So this this was a dig at Gene and Paul about having become a "pop band".
Ace was such a goofball. But he had a good reason for being cheerful, Eric joining gave the band a long overdue kick in the butt and the tour that followed was hard rocking with all the bullshit gone out of the window. Sadly, when that tour ended, the bullshit returned with a vengeance.
