I think the bottom bracket is the most critical piece of the whole bike. That is where all the mechanical energy is centered in riding. Any loose components such as worn bearings will magnify the problems elsewhere. It has to be in perfect alignment or you will throw off a chain.

10:11 ahh that's the trick.. lock the non drive side so the tool doesn't randomly fly off resulting in bashed knuckles under tightening... proper useful video and well filmed .. cheers

Nice! Hopefully Shimano used some grease between the bearing and secondary seal on the drive side. Yeah I know it's kinda OCD but that's how I am. Grease in that secondary seal and I'll never have to do that again. Maybe that's why I got canned after working for the same guy after 35+years...too bad he built an empire during the time I worked there..I didn't even collect my unemployment...not much compensation for the multi million dollar hands I lent out. Anyway glad to see another post ...it's got to be tough over there. Remember the Lord is your Sanctuary 🙏.

Just a curiosity, but considering the replacement was sealed bearings, would using a cold blue inside the frame help prevent furthur rust? The treads are greased, but the center part would concern me, but im not an expert, i might just be overthinking it.
Nothing is, but the presence of rust means either it sat somewhere or the rider rides it through mud and water. The new crankshaft might prevent it, but i am the kinda person who puts backups for backups.
