The double whammy of the play by play guy's "TOUCHDOWN USC!" followed immediately by the other announcer thinking Stanford was down by 1 instead of tied. Kills me every time, definitely an all-time announcing choke.
Never in my life have I heard Tiger Stadium as loud as when they announced this final score during the LSU/Florida game. What a special time to be a fan.
This is exactly what I think of every time I see this game.. I was there and it turned into a CAJUN VAMPIRE PARTY as soon as they announced in on the PA
Yeah, Richard Sherman caught the 4th and 20 on the winning drive in this game, then two years later got a pick-6 at USC when Stanford blew USC out. Sherman loved playing against SC, which was his hometown team growing up. lol And during recruiting, Sherman's final two choices were USC and Stanford. He chose Walt Harris's Stanford over Pete Carrol's USC. Walt Harris then gets fired, and Harbaugh takes over. Then Sherman plays for Pete Carol in the pros and becomes a thorn in the side of Harbaugh. Interesting how everything comes full circle. 🤣🤣
In my opinion, this is the biggest upset ever, at least since I started watching football. Appalachian State over Michigan may have been a bigger upset on paper, but App State was a championship team in their division. In this case, Stanford was a truly bad team with a backup QB playing against #1. Like, everything that had to go wrong for USC went wrong, and everything went right for Stanford. Truly amazing.
Michigan's #5 ranking was also only a preseason guess. This USC team had earned their #1 spot by this point. App State went up two scores in the first half and held on. Stanford was down two scores in the 4th quarter and came back. Thrilling. What a year. More of this please.
This was one of those games I couldn't look away from, and the miscues by USC kept Stanford in it (and me as well from afar). Perhaps the most improbable game result I can ever remember. It gave Jim Harbaugh and Stanford so much credibility. Even though they weren't good in 2007, it was clear that would change in short order.
How did Michigan not watch this when firing Lloyd Carr & hire Jim Harbaugh right then & there? The years USC made Michigan their bitch under conservative Lloyd Carr & Michigan won’t hire the one guy that makes a 1-11 Stanford team beat them?
Sherman's going to jail and lose his family, Harbaugh gonna get fired from Meeeeechigan. Reggie will get his Heisman back and USC will win the Pac 12. Karma's a bitch!!!
That announcer messing up the final call will always kills me lmao

I wish someone would upload Dave Flemming’s radio call on KNBR.
TOUCHDOWN USC ... er, Stanford, lol.

"TOUCHDOWN, USC!" He messed up on that call. It was "Touchdown, Stanford!"
Richard Sherman burnt USC and Pete Carroll drafts him. Still love you Pete.

I will never understand how the #1 team in the nation doesnt sell out a stadium
The game that sent John David Booty from a 1st round pick to a 6th round pick. Should've left the year before, would've cashed in.
David booty cost them the game lol. With those turnovers changed the game
Meanwhile Notre Dame played UCLA in Pasadena. You can guess how fans from both teams reacted to the final score.
I bet LAX was awkward the next day
The announcer botching the call is such a shame
That was my Senior Year in High School before Olympics and College

It’s easy looking back in retrospect, but the University of Michigan wasn’t gonna hire a guy who went 4-8 in his first season. Small sample size
Some AWFUL commentating there at the end all around 💀
