This pattern is intended to imitate the 'Darner' clan of dragonflies. Nymphs from this clan are fierce aggressive predators that stalk the underwater landscape like a cat. Rocks, weed beds, sunken timber and debris are favored dragon nymph haunts, typically unfriendly places to present a fly.
Using a fast sinking type VII line coupled with a short 4'-6' leader, the buoyant nature of the Foam Creeper allows you to explore dragonfly nymph habitat with minimal hang-ups. Be sure to hang on when fishing dragon nymph imitations such as the Foam Creeper as the takes are typically savage.
To learn more about dragonfly nymphs and the presentation methods I prefer to use please download and subscribe to mine and Brian Chan’s Stillwater Fly Fishing App by selecting the appropriate link below.
One of the app benefits is the ability to take our helpful content with you wherever you go. That furry foam is neat. Great pattern, thanks Phil.
One of my favorites yet simple but deadly
Just what I was looking for
This dragon nymph is also very interesting..I've tied and used your "Drag Queen" with a lot of success for a few summers now! I''ll give this one a try ...
Beautiful fly. Thank you for the tutorial
wow nice or what kudos Phil
Well I don’t have any of the materials you need so I’m going to have to improvise with what I got.
Could you just glue 2 pieces of 2mm foam together, form it and maybe ad some dubbing to the top with head cement to create the "fur"?
Hi Philip I'm having trouble finding those furry foam bodies any info where to buy them would be great thanks Mark
Is the body foam thicker than 2 mm.?
