- Great Central Railway Autumn Steam Gala 2023. Filmed Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th October 2023, released Sunday 8th October 2023.
The GCR held their annual 'Autumn Steam Gala' over the weekend of 5-8th October 2023 with a total of 8 engines in steam, complimented by both a diesel and a DMU. The Gala featured 2 visitors, the first being 2999 "Lady of Legend" visiting from the Didcot Railway Centre. The other being 7714 visiting from the Severn Valley Railway. The railway put on an intensive timetable including 2 freight sets as well as two 'local' sets to really give the feel of a proper double-track mainline.
Filming happened over the Saturday & Sunday of the event with footage covering a fair amount of locations. Unfortunately, on Saturday afternoon, the timetable slipped by a good 50 minutes which thwarted my plans to get a decent shot of the '9F' at the end of the day. Otherwise it was a brilliant weekend and we were even gifted with a large amount of sun!

Nice video, I must have been stood near you on the Saturday on Rushey Lane when I was there in the morning. I think I need to visit for 2 days as never got round to visiting the other end of the line and was mainly Quorn & Woodhouse and Rothley.
I usually also spend just one day a Great Central Gala as if you spend enough time there, you can get a decent amount of shots in such as the ones south of Loughborough, Kinchley Lane & Quorn in a single day. I only spent two days at this Gala because I had the opportunity to ride on the Sunday. Anyway, it looks like you go some great shots on your video 👍
Enjoyed your video, i was there 2 days but nice to see different shots to where i was filming, i have subscribed to you...Mal
Thank you 👍
Nice Footage there. Did the TPO run take place at all?
No, it's been out of service since 2019.
@@MaximumPressureSteam Fair does. Thanks for that
for any particular reason? I’ve always wondered why..
Currently, they look in a bit of a sorry state, so they would need a fair bit of work to be operational again. Also, until recently, there have been speed restrictions either side of Quorn as well as the issues with Covid. Anyway, I hope to see them out one day. 👍
@@MaximumPressureSteam I'm sorry to say it but the GCR has gone downhill. There as so many good photo locations available anymore. The main coach stock set has been reduced from 7 coaches to 5 coaches and of course the TPO runs don't take place
