Pay per use plans, no GPS maps on the go, downloading video/music because you can't stream in the car...
      Sounds like 2007 alright

Does anyone else remember when text messages cost $0.05 to send and receive?
You always knew someone didn't pay their own bill when they text back "k"

Brandon I got another use for you. An old smartphone can me used as a dedicated 2FA authentication device(eg Google Auth and Authy). When you change your phone you lose the 2fa you had on that phone, you can get locked out of many accounts, banking, stock and crypto trading, assets, etc when you lose that code. So why not use a dedicated device for it, connected to Wifi. And best part is it is always at home in a secure place.

Bro changing phones when you have crypto apps/storage on your phone is terrifying.
I started buying bitcoin in 2012, little at a time. Right before the results of the 2016 election, my main Google account got banned for suspicious activity. Apparently there were too many attempted logins to my account from eastern Europe. I appealed the ban, of course. But in the mean time, I was locked out of that account.
That meant I couldn't access any f2a account that I set up with authenticator using that Google account. I lost access to Gmail, to Google drive, lost my stored login information for websites, everything. Even my crypto account. Couldn't login because my device became "untrusted" and that Google account that they blocked was removed from every device I owned, making it impossible to verify.
I did hold some btc in an offline wallet though, because I worked at a gas station at the time and I'd sell it to people via some p2p exchange. Like fb marketplace. I'd post my rate, and ppl would message me. They give cash, I send btc/eth.
But after a few months of my account being locked with no reply, I decided to wipe my phone and start fresh. I had no idea that the private keys for my storage apps were on the SD card though. And the SD card was encrypted. When I reset the phone, I reset the encryption key, so the SD card wasn't accessible.
Imagine how I felt when I restored everything, and I couldn't access my offline storage accounts. I did put the phrases in a text file, but that file was under my banned Google account. And when that account got reinstated, data was missing from before it was banned. Pictures, videos, notes from 3rd party apps, emails I sent and received...
I had 2.4BTC at that time, which was worth like $700.
I still think about that, how I fucked up by resetting the phone, how I didn't understand what encrypting the SD card meant... But I can't explain why my Google account data was erased during that time period either

@@zp944 2.4BTC is not a small amount now. Could buy a new truck with that. Im not worried about that problem becuse the bulk of my crypto is always in a brain wallet, not linked to other accounts. UPDATE: the Canadian Government has cracked down on so many exchanges that I found that only one or two are left accessable. I used a VPN to check and clear any accounts I have. Since I also lost stored trading history with those exchanges I guess the tax man is gonna be dissapointed. Left with "money out-money in" for tax related stuff now. Not like I hadnt lost a bunch of paper trail from QuadrigaCX. But I still have what BTC I didnt sell during the last peak
