It makes sense, Destiny was one of the first people to make me question my own political beliefs and I genuinely believe after watching him he really helped me form my own thought process. He is just a very well-spoken dude
I think this was one of your most convincing talks I’ve heard. I really think the strategy here is one that will be fruitful to explore, just has to be in the right context.
I'm not sure about how easily reachable this person really is. His distrust in government is gonna prove a big hurdle. He simultaneously benefits greatly from Medicaid and the generally extensive public services provided by the (relatively) progressive democratic New Jersey, yet is sure it can't work if it's expanded to cover the rest of the country. He talks highly of the care he receives and the schools he has access to, but thinks other people that makes considerably less than him would rather go without the healthcare they need than having to deal with a government system. Not to mention the sudden race difference debate at the end, where hospitals would incur a measurably higher cost for serving different races? When New York alone already serves as diverse of a population as exists in the entire rest of the country.
Well no shit people don't have hope in the government when they are corrupt, the moment you have someone lying or promises not being held you can't trust it. The government is meant to serve the people, not the other way around.
@@WieldMyWord The big hurdle here is how you easily trust the people behind the government like the moron that you are. You forgot to mention the heavily DEMOCRATIC California with a high rate of homelessness, high tax rates that caused them to flee to Republican states. Do you know how many of my fellow filipinos live in California? 60%. Do you know how many of them are homeless? Zero. Do you know why? Because they benefit from your "social services" while your fellow Americans goes homeless by funding those services through high tax. Funny how you miss mentioning that.
My only issue with your take is that in this instance you dont understand how expensive it is to live in New Jersey, we have some of the highest taxes in the country in every category, so when it comes to health insurance, there are plenty of people who are not in a position to have much disposable income once getting insurance, and if they have kids that require daycare and upkeep in general, it is much easier for some to go without health insurance.
You have to experience a corrupt government to really understand his sentiments and position. Destiny had a good point with strong institutions, without them a government can run away with little accountability. Take South Africa as an example, although a republic, our public keeps voting for the same party and our institutions are in shambles due 2 decades of corruption.
It really sucks listening to someone who clearly has some intelligence responding to his obligations to his fanbase and being disingenuous and exaggerating in order to do so. "We're kinda in a revolution. Well no, nevermind, you're right, we aren't."
Americans need to reinvigorate their trust in their institutions,There is corruption and lack of transparency in their institutions, Which is a shame. But now we've reached a point where if the government says do X, the people won't do it because they don't trust the government, and that distrust of authority has bled into scientific authority, The government is saying do what the scientists say but Americans don't trust the government and end up not even trusting the scientists.
The government should say: “it’s a good idea for republicans to breathe” then they’ll fight the deep state, preserve their freedoms and all of our problems will soon be solved 😆
Incidentally, it wasn't capitalistic innovation that transformed ulcer treatment from surgery to a pill. It was a single scientist who discovered that ulcers are caused by particular bacteria and can be treated with an antibiotic. He proved it by deliberately infecting himself with this bacteria and then cured the resulting ulcers with antibiotics.
Yeah. But sometimes your neighbors want you deported, and sometimes you to have their lives destroyed in repsonse. And then everybody starts eating one another.
Victoria (Australia) represent! Our lockdown was tough. I was lucky that I was in a nice house, outside of the city, and working from home. Lots of people were stood down, but claimed $1000/fortnight from the government. We had idiots that went out in protest but the majority stayed safe, home, and wore a mask. Now we've had 3 days with 0 cases and 0 deaths in a row. Keen to go out for dinner sometime soon. *Edit* forgot to add: I know people had it tough in poor living conditions and I think I need to consider this when shit talking the people that left the house to protest, etc.
Melbourne lockdowns were a fucking disaster. I'd calmly go as far as to say there isn't a worse managed state in regards to Covid on the planet. If you're like myself and live in even a midpriced apartment near the city and lost your job the $1000 doesn't go all that far, especially when you're basically completely fucked when that drops to $600 next year, pretty much ruining my financial situation if I can't get a job before then. My housemate is in a similar situation to yourself, living in a nice apartment, works from home which is actually a plus for them and has had no personal hardship due to the virus. The problem with lockdowns is that you're choosing to jeopardize the financial future of a portion of the population. The majority might be fine but you're leaving a certain amount behind by only focusing on nothing but a death rate. Look at the suicide rate, mortgage defaults, bankrupt businesses, people who can't pay their bills or rent. Wealthy unaffected Melbournite's that support the lockdown at all costs are as selfish as the anti-maskers and retarded protesters.
@@jeanlucbergman479 sorry to hear man. Definitely a hard decision to make. Don't envy government leadership in any country during this period. Not here to argue.
Brit here, our NHS is working, we currently have a conservative government who are trying to make it worse but I've never met anyone who has struggled to get care and if it doesn't come fast enough you can still pay to go private. Also we have a lot of foreign doctors because they come here to learn and fall in love with the country.
This, but the yanks don't give a fuck about reality outside their cartoon country. I work in the NHS and no matter how many times I try explaining "yeah it actually works fine, most of all the problems with our system stem from 15 years of the fuckin tories underfunding it" that's all complete speculation compared to that one time a fox news guy said something about baby death panels or whatever the soup-brained talking point of the day is.
Anecdotal, but as a Brit diagnosed with a brain condition in 2019 and someone that had to have 2 brain surgeries in that year, I can say for me personally, socialized healthcare worked excellently for my very specific condition. Very little waiting, was ambulanced straight to a hospital 50 miles from me and had the first surgery within hours of me being at Hospital. It was honestly unbelievable to me how good it was. I think American's have a complete misconception about social healthcare, but maybe I've just been lucky. God knows how much money it would've cost me to have multiple brain surgeries. I also couldn't tell you how many eye tests, MRI scans and x-rays I've had in the last couple years. There really didn't seem to be any issues and I never had to have an appointment in the middle of the night or anything like that.
As a Canadian living in Toronto, his claim that our "non-homogenous" population causes us to "drown" in healthcare is factually incorrect. Our government is one of the best negotiators for healthcare provinces on the planet and we have incredibly efficient outcomes for the costs. (And again, it's amazing that I can walk in, get care, and just leave. No stress, no worry, no money required.)
Another point I want to add is that it depends what he means by drowning. Because we are drowning from lack of doctors... Because they go to the states to make more money 😐
@@raidermaxx2324 hahaha happy to be a partner in crime. That's unfortunate though. Usually when silence meets the question I honestly just assume its because the answer isn't something people want to accept. Whatever it is

26:30 Meanwhile I have a personal story where one of my coworkers tried to sue the company we work for after he had a direct work-related injury. It ended up failing after all the doctors our company and the insurance our company provides pointed him towards then lied about the nature, severity, and timeframe for the injury. Luckily he was independently wealthy but if his livelihood was based on the job he was working then he would never have even thought about consulting a lawyer.
@Spiratis I am braindead tired so I will try to phrase this more simply: The guy in the video brought up a personal example for how a lawsuit against a private insurance company helped him. I have a story about how doing the same thing hurt my coworker. My coworker injured his shoulder on the job, he is an older gentleman. He brushed it off on the first and second day, by the third he wrote up a report with the manager. He has insurex through the company and it wasn't properly covered. He sued and during the trial the doctor he was pointed to lied and said the injury was pre-existing because he was old, and generally both our company and the insurance agency f*cked him over. He works in the deli department at a grocery store but before this he owned a very successful business. If he wasn't already well-off he wouldn't have even considered a lawyer since the job pays like sh*t and if he lost after paying a lawyer the exorbitant fees they charge he would be more than broke. In this instance suing in a system with privately-owned health insurance/care f*cked him over.
In regards to the "Kamala is the most progressive/liberal..." that report was based on voted positions not held positions/reported positions. Therefore, someone like bernie that has more "progressive" positions like: " 30% Worker boards" or "Medicare for all" will NEVER/ HASN'T been up for a vote; but his conservative gun positions have. Not saying being progressive is good or bad, just that it makes the statement "Kamala is the most progressive/liberal..." somewhat untrue.
My personal internal argument for not wanting to catch covid (not one I use to argue politically a lot, just how I feel) is that the long term damage that's been seen in people of all ages (lung damage, some other physical and even mental issues) is pretty worrying. And if those effects end up being common enough, having a country of 100s of millions with those lingering effects is going to be pretty crazy.
Yep, I have a brother-in-law in Italy whose cousin tested positive last week for the 2nd time. He's an ultra conservative Christian pastor who has taken little to no precautions with regard to his congregation. My sister-in-law has health problems that put her in the "at risk" category. It infuriates me knowing he was around my niece and nephew. Thankfully, the family all tested negative.

The only thing I really have experience with in relation to that is anecdotal, but as a dental hygiene student I can 100% say they gatekeep that and it's also a medical profession. The COMMUNITY COLLEGE near me even only accepts 20-30 applicants a year in an area with a population density of 3,628 people per square mile and the GPA average to even be considered is LITERALLY 4.0.
Normally I've said that Destiny's attempts at persuasive rhetoric have all been largely counter-productive, since he tended to just act too friendly, and like too much of a push over, which I found usually resulted in the person he's talking to just having their feelings validated. This is, however, the only time I think he's ever been successful with persuasive rhetoric. He was stern in his arguments such that he was able to actually get them across, but not so much that he became antagonistic towards the people he was reaching out to. He was able to push the person just enough to see things from his perspective, while not going so far as to push them into a pit of rage. I really hope he uses this as an example to model his conversations off of in the future. It seems far more productive than any other route he's previously tried to take.
Harshest lockdowns in the world and disastrously managed quarantine basically set Melbourne into an extra 4 month lockdown than anticipated, the longest in the world. Sorry to anyone that wants to pretend that the US was worse than anywhere else and thereby points at literally *anywhere* else that did better, but Australia and Melbourne specifically isn't a good answer for a country that performed well in this regard.
@@jeanlucbergman479 Bruh... pretty much all of Australia is open and never even closed. They only temp locked down the borders between States. NSW doesn't even require that I wear a mask when entering a store or a restaurant lol. Although maybe it's different in Sydney. Melbourne is unique because they have a huge anti vaccine movement. This group is responsible for all of the shitty protests and draconian measures that were taken. Just admit that the US fucked up. NSW only has 53 deaths with a population of 7.5 million people. 5.2 million live in Sydney so an argument of population density is irrelevant. US has 9.4 million cases and 230K deaths.
Fixing healthcare gets much easier outside of a privatized system. When the focus is on fixing the system rather than fixing the profit margins, you can get a lot done. Private hospitals will never provide better healthcare than they currently do. Certain industries just don't make sense to privatize. Healthcare and prisons are two of them.

"Self-defense arguments dont exist in a 10-second vacuum. Not just morally, but legally. See Raul Rodriguez vs. The State of Texas. Rodriguez went to confront his neighbors about a loud party, told them he was armed, and killed one of them when the group tried to jump him as he stood at the end of their driveway. He was acting in self defense in a vacuum but he got life in prison for it. This is because he inserted himself into a situation that he didnt need to be in, with a gun, and thus was responsible for the escalation. Likewise, this kid traveled to another city to confront people with a weapon, to defend a fucking gas station. There was no self-defense claim to make there. He recklessly created this situation. It would be a MASSIVE stretch to say he was concerned with the gas station rather than concerned with confronting BLM protestors. One of Destiny's best conversations. So many understandable points covered that many people just don't get.
First time in so long that I could feel like both sides were completely sensible. It was nice👍.
@@WieldMyWord He doesn't like the government, but keeps voting for corrupt people to fill the government.

@@psionicdongpunch Thanks for your work
@Nath Krishna cost of most things is going up, what's your point?
@Nath Krishna alright then go on, what's your analysis? What's the solution?
I dunno, this was great, but this Halsey News Network guy seems like a way more decent person than the average trumple.

@Spiratis I am braindead tired so I will try to phrase this more simply:
The guy in the video brought up a personal example for how a lawsuit against a private insurance company helped him.
Herd Immunity xD
They are aware that there are already cases of people catching covid twice, right?
Better evolve faster, the market needs you.
I agree that herd immunity is a totally worthless meme, but the catching Covid twice thing may very well be the exception that confirms the rule.
