Summary of tips from comments/breakdown of video, and some of my own additions (detailed explanations below): 1. The order matters, for efficiency! 2. Retrieve /immediately/ for quick movement & orange boxes. 3. Otherwise, don't retrieve at all. 4. Purple = 2 ninjutsus, orange = 1 throw-retrieve. 5. Generally aim for the middle of stacks/walls of boxes. 6. Immediately expend ATB, ONLY on large boxes. 7. Only use windstorm, AFTER throwing 8. Use banishment 3 on the MIDDLE large box of the group. 9. Tactically ignore some boxes 1. The order matters, for efficiency! You'll notice the player is almost never waiting/attacking for ATB charges; if your ATB is sitting full you're not being efficient. This affects the order, e.g. in the first large room, you'll notice they immediately use their ATB charge from the purple boxes to the right to windstorm the large box on the platform, before moving on to the smaller boxes to charge again (th-cam.com/video/5PdMlU44y4g/w-d-xo.html). This means that later, the box only needs a basic throw to get rid of it, after using an ATB on the large-box-pair and keeping the other for the last large box. This allows them to get rid of 4 large boxes in quick succession (th-cam.com/video/5PdMlU44y4g/w-d-xo.html). 2. Using a combo of throw and then IMMEDIATELY retrieving allows you to move around very quickly as Yuffie zooms to her distant weapon, but in particular if you throw-retrieve at orange boxes, Yuffie will collide with the group of boxes, destroying them all on impact rather than doing a box at a time, which saves time overall. 3. Unless you're specifically retrieving for movement/orange boxes though, /leave your weapon out/, for 2 reasons: -- a) It allows you to charge ATB and attack boxes while you maneuver instead of wasting time (e.g. th-cam.com/video/5PdMlU44y4g/w-d-xo.html), -- b) You can use ninjutsu anywhere regardless/your weapon doesn't move to where you aim ninjutsu after you've thrown it. I.e. You can deal damage in 2 places at once!! (E.g. weapon stays damaging lone purple box while the pair get ninjutsu'd here: th-cam.com/video/5PdMlU44y4g/w-d-xo.html) 4. The purple boxes need 2 ninjutsu hits to go down, and the orange just 1 throw. You can use this info to time your throw-retrieves e.g. at the starting corridor. 5. If you aim at the top or bottom of stacks, or sides of walls, sometimes a box gets missed and you waste time trying to clean up the last bits. Aiming, if locked on or just generally, at the middle of stacks or walls prevents this. 6. As soon as you have ATB, use it on a large box, so you're not wasting charges/time, and use the small boxes to charge up your ATB in between. This goes hand in hand with point 1, as doing so somewhat defines the order you want to go in for max efficiency. Further, do not waste them on small boxes (unless it's the near end and you have enough ATB/time that you're not gonna need it later, like in the video here: th-cam.com/video/5PdMlU44y4g/w-d-xo.html6) 7. Windstorm has the highest damage per second, and has an area of effect, so don't waste your charges on anything else (with 1 exception). That said, windstorm's AOE occurs /where the weapon is/, and the DPS is /higher/ when said weapon is thrown. In other words, throw the weapon before activating to ensure you can clear a large box with just that and a single hit, and to ensure the area is best positioned on the boxes you want. 8. In the room with the group of large boxes, you'll have saved up to a level 3 banishment; use this but MAKE SURE you're aimed at/on the MIDDLE box. This will mean the entire group are immediately destroyed. If you don't hit the middle one some will be missed. 9. Considering you will be using windstorm, an AOE attack, some boxes can and should be tactically ignored, as they'll be destroyed as collateral damage when destroying other large boxes anyway, e.g. here: th-cam.com/video/5PdMlU44y4g/w-d-xo.html. Ignoring them and just doing the AOE first saves time. Side note: it doesn't happen in the video as the poster uses throw-release on the relevant boxes to move closer quicker, but if relevant to some people's go-throughs, the stack with the timer here in the first room can be ignored as windstorm-ing the pair of large boxes also takes it out: th-cam.com/video/5PdMlU44y4g/w-d-xo.html)
Thank you!!! For all those having trouble, throw the star at the 1500 boxes and use windstorm while it’s stuck to it. The biggest time save is using banish (unlocked from the third star you get) at full power in the middle of the last room to take them all out.

Super important its the middle one or it will miss a few. When I finally did it right, I finished with 20 seconds remaining, which is crazy since I failed A LOT!

I 100% agree, I don't think I've ever raged so hard as trying to get this done. All the time wasted trying to get it to lock on to the right God damned box was making me livid lol I think I was working on it for like 3 1/2 hours

I tucked up so many times during my final run but I ended up getting it literally at the last second, the last one broke as the timer said times up, I saw it go to 50,000 right before it appeared though. God my heart was beating so fast lol
Tried PowerPyx's way and that trick whereby you cast Windstorm in the corner of the large collection of purple and oranges stacked together just before your last 1500 crate to knock them all out in 1 shot, but I still could not get it until I followed your method. About 2.5 hours sunk into this bitch of a challenge! Just glad it's all over now!
It's one of the oldest tricks in the game book. Always check behind you or next to you from your starting point, devs often hide collectibles there or in this case: boxes.
What are your stats? I'm doing basically the same but the boxes take way longer to break (yes, I use physical attacks for red boxes and ninjutsu for the blue ones). I'm on my Hard playthrough, Yuffie is around lv. 40 with 90% of her weapon upgrades unlocked. The damage this guy does with Windstorm is just way above what I manage to do.
Update since someone liked my comment so maybe people are still having trouble with this: it seems Windstorm does a TON more damage when you activate it after throwing your weapon, but as far as I remember (it's been a while) the game never tells you that. After I learned that, it was a breeze to complete the challenge, even with 15 to 20 seconds to spare.

I throw the star at the 1500 boxes, then do a windstorm immediately after. It definitely doesn’t deal the amount of damage that I see in this video!
@@mikegreene1464 sorry, it’s been quite a while since I’ve last played the Yuffie DLC but maybe your low damage output has something to do with not reaching the level cap, or maybe the choice of materia (and their respective levels, of course). Maybe it’s still possible to do it, but it will become way easier if you leave it for later!
I'm doing everything as it's being done in the video but every time I leave the second room I've only got 27 seconds left compared to your 43 and it's really frustrating me

Omg youre the goat. I thought the shuriken you throw is bound with her ninjutsu but you can actually use her ninjutsu on other targets while her shuriken is focused on the orange boxes
I seriously learned more about how to play Yuffie during this shinra box mini game than I did actually fighting enemies in the story… Learned more about how the game locks on and transfers targets and how to use abilities more efficiently. Does the game even tell you that windstorm does more damage with your weapon out of hand?
My Windstorm doesn't destroy that first 1500 box unless I also do some Ninjutsu attacks with square first. Any idea why that would be? Should I be using a different weapon? Do stats matter? I'm mostly stacked towards Magic.

Square needs to fix the lock-on system. No reason to lock-on to anything from behind you or off on some random corner. Oh, and add a retry option. Resume Retry Give up Basic mini game pause menu 101 lmao
Took me a long time but I at last managed to get this done with 40 seconds to spare! With the right strategy (and you definitely have a good one) it actually becomes quite enjoyable. this is either buggy or RNG, im doing things pretty much exactly but its random as to if the ninjutsu decides to actually hit, the animation is going off ont he boxes but i can cast 6 or 7 times on a 100 box and not have it break
The 100 boxes break from physical damage. So you don’t want to be using ninjutsu. You just throw the shuriken and immediately retrieve and then use a normal physical attack.

To those that find this having an extremely tight timer, I recommend using Cactstar if you have it. Also, to maximize damage while waiting for ATB to do windstorm, the 1500 blocks break in 6 triangle spams! Just throw to hit the block, then retrieve it, and repeat. I had 50k with 20 seconds to spare by doing this. I did this on accident because I accidentally did Cactuar Caper and tried to finish. GLHF
It's nice, but I would really prefer that you had showed the commands you used instead of you using the shortcuts. I mean, it's supposed to be a guide and I can't follow you because it's too fast. How are you destroying the 1500 boxes so fast?

This is the dumbest fkin challenge on this game. The glitchy targeting and randomly not destroying boxes when you attack or use abilities makes this ridiculously stupid. Really this is the only negative on such a great game.

It wasn't until your comment that I realized THAT was how Windstorm worked... legit did not realize it was a targeted AOE (marked by your shuriken)

How was Windstorm breaking the 1500 boxes in one hit? Whenever I use it, it hits for like 5 hits and they are still alive.

I only learned that Yuffie is indeed garbage to play and super annoying. Regular fights felt super off already cause of the stupid lock system

Can you confirm what you do after you throw? Do you tap square or hold it? There seems to be a trick to this to smash the boxes so quick
How come when I throw and proceed to press square it doesn’t take 2 times it literally takes like 6 times on the purple boxes sometimes.....

This is the dumbest fkin challenge on this game. The glitchy targeting and randomly not destroying boxes when you attack or use abilities makes this ridiculously stupid. Really this is the only negative on such a great game.
