      Exodus made by Archetype Entertainment is on its way to fill the hole left by Mass Effect. Humanoid Origin is also making a sci-fi game. Both studios are spearheaded by Old Guard Bioware veterans. Hopefully, one, if not, both studios will make a fantasy(dark fantasy) IP to fill the hole left by Dragon Age Origins(and 2) at some point in the future.

      @@nickstark8479idk, i never played a DA game. yet, from gameplay alone, it looked boring, not the animations mind you, but seeing different reviews with different gameplay and classes yet all of them doing the same 2-3 attacks againg and again made me realize that what one of them said was true, there are many skills but they're just not worth using. Also i did saw that the difficulty is based on how much hp the enemies have and not on more frenetic reactive gameplay. Also the bosses looked boring, they were cool visually but they patterns looked pretty much the same, which was something the reviewer i mentioned before pointed out too. So, though i've not played it, i'm inclined to say it's a pretty mediocre game and i'm saying that without even mentioning the narrative and interactions of the characters with each other

    I started up Origins again last night and tried out the city elf origin for the first time and I can say current Bioware wouldn’t have the balls to address the dark themes present in that origin. On top of that the writing, characters, tone and overall vibe of the game is perfect and a big part of why that game has stuck with me so long. It feels like a completely different and better series than Veilguard.

They say they love the original but everything about it is problematic. If you love it, why would you passionately block it from ever getting made today? This is the state of the industry. @moonie9000 Good writing is timeless. It’s why classic films like twelve angry men are still highly regarded today. As for games, a good gameplay loop matters but something like Origins, its writing holds up incredibly well. It goes to show why BioWare became the power house in western gaming. And why so much of modern BioWare and triple AAA gaming just sucks. It’s also why outside stuff like space marines 2 black myth Wukong; I always go back to older titles like this. Time is too short to waste on modern games that can’t even nail fundamentals like good gameplay loops, fixing major bugs and writing.

      I'm one of those people who like to say we lost a lot writing and world building going from ME1 to ME2. That while the gameplay may not feel nice ME1 might have been the soupier RPG and probably the height of Bioware's story telling. Just going through all the dialog options to setup the world in the first 20 minutes before you land on the first planet is eye opener compared to stuff today.
      You would have also thought that the Witcher 3 would make good writing and character presentation popular but it seems all other studios took from the game was the camera work during dialogue and ignored the good writing bit.

    I complete Dragon Age: Origins and Awakening more than 10 times. Dragon Age 2 around 5-8 times. Dragon Age Inquisition more than 5 times. And Dragon Age Origins is still my favorite game in this series. I will definitely not play The Veilguard mainly because of three reasons:
    1. You don’t have full control over your companions. I love strategy games where you can create different team composition (more tanky, more CC, all DPS etc.) and try different builds for them.
    2. So far that I have seen dialogues are not appalling to me. I love more rough adult language and also world don’t seems dark survival horror enough.
    3. Qunari models look terrible (my favorite models were in Dragon Age 2). Yeah someone could say: Then don’t play with Qunari. But problem is that I will come across with NPSs and this would make me angry 100%.
    Maybe one day if we will have heavily modified version of game…

  • @NagaTales
    @NagaTales 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +20

    DA:O is timeless, because it is wholly committed to its own dark fantasy and lets nothing get in the way of making you face down the gritty reality that Ferelden is dealing with.
    It presents you with dilemmas that are genuinely hard, and often asks your character to pick sides that are, in their own ways, equally questionable on many levels, because the situation demands action and the 'perfect solution' isn't on the table. It doesn't ask you which solution your character might prefer (or even whose "side" they're on), instead it asks you which consequences your character must be willing to shoulder; what sins they are willing to bear in the name of stopping an existential threat.
    DA:2, while it struggled due to its short development cycle and hasty push out the door, managed to maintain that grit and tone, and still rings true as a part of the Dragon Age world. Inquisition stumbled in execution of its scope, but largely managed to at least keep its toes on the ground. Each of them have issues because the 'real world' was interfering, either directly in the case of DA:2, or philosophically in DA:I.
    This is why DA:O will remain timeless. Because it shoves the "real world" out, and lets the setting define its own reality on its own terms.

      I really liked DA:O because, even though it was dark and gritty, it wasn’t nihilistic. It didn’t do what a lot of prestige media does and pander the message of “Life is shit, you should be one too.” Characters who are ultra-ruthless are ultimately self-destructive just like idealists who refuse to accept reality. The idea that only the most merciless, treacherous, and manipulative can succeed is even more annoying than a pure Pollyanna story.
      Plus, it had a good dog. 😁

Lastly Shale, her story for me as a dwarf was something else, I felt sad for her loosing so much of herself, but also I was amazed at the work of our ancestors so little of our people was left to stand next to Shale brought courage to me that maybe not everything is lost for us.

    I think BG3 is a prime example that people want games to return to the old ways, in more ways than one. What’s crazy is when these AAA developers look for every excuse under the sun on why they can’t do the same thing. That’s garbage and they know it. They have an agenda and they want you as the consumer, to choke on their crap.

    • @quadboy4lyfe
      @quadboy4lyfe 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@LeonJohnson-yi3hg I was mainly talking about the game mechanics. Developers swore that turn based games were dead and nobody wanted to play them anymore and then BG3 came out and it was an instant success. The graphics were also extremely top notch for being a top down RPG and the dialogue options were extremely wide range allowing you to actually play however you wanted. I mean you could saw the head off of one of your companions or tear off another’s arm. These components have nothing to do with their precious ideology but for some reason they want to sacrifice all of that to put their politics front and center. People dislike the ideology and the politics, but if the game mechanics and the loop is fun, and it’s not a bugged out mess people will overlook it just like BG3.

This rpg franchise is known for the choices you make and the consequences of those choices, especially in DA:O.
