If you do want to use FL keys (plugin does exist for a reason).
You can use convolutional reverb and use ANY sample and replace the default clicking sound.
This will mutate or morph the FL keys sound with the sample you used in the convolutional reverb.
Can create some interesting effects sometimes.

Literally just wedsday. I showed some people to see what they think, other producers more experienced than I. This is what they told me:
You've got good progression. You know when your song needs to change and you do so. The sound design is great and so is the mix. The only problem is you have no emotion.
This is what I've been needing to add to get more emotion. More expression. This is exactly what I needed thank you!

To add a seventh: what I call orchestration (inspired by what composers do with orchestras).
Often, all your synths are playing all the notes of the chords.
Rather, have multiple patches playing different lines from the chord. Have one synth playing just the top line, one just the middle line, one just the bottom line, a few more playing melodic lines by choosing notes from the chords differently (e.g. if your progression is C-Dm-Em-C, then one synth plays a high C-D-E-C, another plays e.g. C-D-E-G, another plays G-F-G-E, and so on, so you get interesting timbral changes as the choice of which synth plays which chord tone varies).
This gets great results of you're playing with orchestral samples, but needn't be restricted to that.
You can also include hints of 7ths by having some of the synths play e.g. C-F-E-B or something. Other synths still, can add passing tones (e.g. instead of C-D-E-G, you could add an F between the E and G).
Basically get out of the box of playing the same chords on all of the synths. Imagine you are writing for an 'orchestra' of monosynths.
And look at classical symphonies and concertos to see the kind of compositional tricks classical composers use when making use of a collection of instruments each capable of playing a different musical line, and often capable of only playing a single line at once.

5:27 well, anyone can produce music whenever they want, there's no rule in music production, as long as it's sounds good, it's good, but FL Keys's grand piano sounds thin and boring, so why not grab Spitfire Audio LABS and choose soft piano, that would be an amazing thing, or grab the stock close grand which is in FL Studio, even the plucks still sound good.

It was perfectly fine, but using inversions usually makes things sound a bit more natural and also easier to play live. One of the weird things about writing electronic music in a DAW, with individual chordal notes raised up an octave or two, is that you can end up with music that is impossible to play on a real piano with the usual number of human fingers. For hundreds of years, pianists were quite happy playing basic triads in root position with occasional inversions where it felt natural for their fingers. One of the reasons why some electronic music sounds "wrong" (especially to older people) is that the chords don't correspond to how physical keyboard instruments are usually played. It's fine to use the methods in this video for contemporary music (EDM etc), but chords stretched over several octaves can sound distinctly unnatural for people with conservative tastes and a love of harmony.

  • @dankdudet1127

I think one thing to add to the checklist would be pickups to the new chords. Just a simple quarter note of the keys root usually works before the next chord

Piano was epic man. Ballsy and dark.. you coulda moved the third out the way you usually do.. and then do that sauce you do with the peddle notes and reverb.. its also the genre you are doing.. the edmmy stuff.. you can reason that organic textures.. are infact superior and you can prove that to yourself,. Much like you sorta proved to yourself that stock sound was wrong 100%. You will like the organic texture trick.. piano.. flute... organ.. guitar (reverses and harmonix), vocal stretches..mix it into your aynths.. from the bottom up like.. start ot infdb and fade it until you hear a "buzz" or a "sizzle" as the new irregular harmonix leak through the rigid synths. this will take that strictly "artificial" tone to the heavens and do what yoh are all about EXTRACT THAT SWEET SWEET EMOTION!

here's the short version of this video.
    1. Make the melody
    2. Add 3-5 of the same chords with different octaves and with 1-3 other variants that harmonize with the melody.
    3. Add a beat bass
It's that easy. The great thing about it is that the artists revolutionized this method for easier song structures for everyone to enjoy. But now everyone is doing it so it's not as impressive anymore, and it's unnecessary filler when there are more creative ways to make your song sound awesome.
Btw. all you're doing with that melody at 3:25 is adding the 2 7th chords of B'major 7 on the 2nd cord and the 4th chord is a F'Minor 7. The first and second chords are a minor 7th too. Why it plays into that factor of harmony is that it unresolved itself by alternating between major and minor 7ths from the chord progressions. Not "Adding voices". A little music theory lesson.

You should try spreading the different voices of your chord progressions across different instruments for even more texture in the timbre. You can then evolve, change, etc. which instruments get which parts throughout the piece. That's starting to get a bit more into arrangement & orchestration rather than pure electronic music, but mixing music worlds offers a whole new level of customization to your sound.

This video made me watch many of your other videos several times. I’ve saved 31 of your other video to try to duplicate some of your other ideas as well. The problem I see for my future is that you have given me plenty of ideas to give me very beautiful beginnings of songs but, I haven’t gotten to many examples of how to build the songs more to a climax and finish them. In your future songs can you give completed examples on how you build and finish your productions? If you already have finished production videos, will you please tell me where to find them? I wish very much to view as many of those videos as well. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge with us beginners and helping us. I am still wishing you continued success in everything you do in your music career. Have a wonderful day. I do hope that you will find time to answer a few of my questions in the very near future.

Hi Alex. I constantly go back to watch your video on “The Secret To Beautiful Chords”. I really would love to know where you got the sound from, or the name of the instrument you got the sound from, where you used the dotted eight notes sounds from. I love that sound. I loved the pluck notes sounds too. If you would answer those questions, I would greatly appreciate it, very much. Thank you in advance and have a wonderful day.

Hi Alex. Please tell me just how you went about making that dotted grove. I loved that concept. I have tried to figure it out but, I just have not been able to do it yet. I would also love how to recreate those pluck sounds you mentioned in this video too. If you can give some advice I would greatly appreciate it. I have been away from recording music because I have been concentrating on learning how to read music much better and now I want to get back to recording music. I picked your video to use as my model to start recording again. This video is one of my favorites of yours. I loved how you moved your 3rds up and octave and carried the tonic and the 5th of your chords through out the chord structures. They really did add great sounds to the chord progressions. I appreciate you sharing with us beginners. One last thing I wanted to mention to you is that, I am using Cubase 13 as my DAW. And I am hoping you can give me some advice as to how to get those pluck sounds using my DAW & I really want to learn how to use that dotted groove you use in this video. I want to use these two techniques in my music a lot in the future. I am hoping that you have time to get back to me soon. As usual I wish you continued success with all of your music projects and videos and I also wish you continued success financially as well. Have a wonderful day and week.

hey man i find your videos super easy to learn from but your songs u make in videos are usually like your edm or like a pop type of style and it’s hard to translate to a song like fast pase rap or r&b do you think in some of your videos you could use more those genres of beats!

I love how he used the same chords in different ways to add layers and textures. That's how I work many times 🎯😁

You labeled your chords wrong, in a scale there is one chord for each letter in the musical alphabet so you dont have 2 f's one sharp and one natural. instead you have F (natural) minor, G flat maj, B flat major and A flat major. Same chords that you played, except now they make sense within the scheme of a Key Signature. Sorry to be that guy...

Also what you did WAS an inversion??? Making the 3rd up an octave is definition inversion.

I've been using FL Studio for the past five years and I don't really use FL keys at all. I use flex and they have a variety of different instruments and synths that I can use. And to be honest, I've created about 10 projects in the last few months, so I'm very proud of myself and I'm still going. I still consider myself a new beginner, but I've got some talent up my sleeve.🔥🔥🔥

I literally NEVER do this, but I legit came back to this comment section, to say THANK YOU! I've had FL since 2021 and had no idea about FLEX. You've helped me get back my creative spark, and I'm on the track to actually finish some of my work and put it out there finally.
