That dude is everyone's Guitar tech. He must know his shit!
I was just thinking that! He does Angus and Stevie too doesn’t he?
@@spoonieAB3 yeah I thought he looks familiar haha
Maybe... but he can't tell a mini-humbucker from a P-90... which gave me pause, I have to say! - I have been guitar tech for Dennis Greaves of Nine Below Zero, Bass tech for Gerry McAvoy of Rory Gallagher fame, and a bunch of even less well-known names haha... and mostly, we don't know jack shit, we can just do the same stuff you can, but happened to be in the right studio at the right time to snap up the job as soon as it was spoke of!
More than anything else, I LOVE the whole craft of the guitar, especially now I've put together my own little studio while we've been in lockdown here in the UK. Am burning to gig again - although when i do, the ratio will switch back to 90% of my energy devoted to acoustic guitars and the world of so-called 'unplugged' performances (which are nothing of the sort), rather than the noise and stink of thrash / death / doom / black metal, which is what me studio is all about.
Anyhooch, I waffle, unprompted, as human conversation has become something of a novel luxury in the UK.... stay healthy sonic brother, love the thumbnail pic! - oh, and feel free to check out my meagre channel if you wanna see some of me work. Cheers!
@@blacktoothfox677 Gerrry McAvoy was a dude!
@@spoonieAB3 'is'!!! - Always a straight shooter. No bullshit with him. Great guy.
"Joe told me he doesn't want to be an Aerosmith cover band, he wants to be inspired"
Just brilliant.
Hell yeah
JOe Perry plays tribute to Jeff Beck with Beck's Bolero ! ....th-cam.com/video/SflvNIy-mdw/w-d-xo.html
Every time I think I have too much gear, I just watch a couple rig rundowns and suddenly I feel good about myself.
Same here lol🤘 🎸
I love it when the techs are huge fans of the artist they work with. What a great crew!
Same
I like it when the techs are faking it and have never even heard of the instrument they are teching for
@@Cuntstantinethat’s really weird
Brad Whitford - "Yeah, Yeah, I built those pickups" kkkkkkkkkkkk xD
O:59 It almost looks like they put a cutout of a picture of a pickup on top of the actual pickup. 😳
This guy is one of the coolest techs I've seen. He's into Joe and his playing and is interested in making it happen every night. Great interview.
joe perry can not play worth a damn....
@@bigbull4635 You are the one who cannot play😂😂
He likes sexs
Because when you think of Joe Perry, you think of...*pulls out something that isn't a Les Paul*
All jokes aside, this is cool.
You can tell this guy takes pride in this rig.
Trace Foster - one of those geniuses that makes everything work. I was friends with Joe’s guitar tech Stan Clark during the Perry Project days and saw not an easy job. Unwanted war story: At a baseball stadium show in Puerto Rico the crowd rioted up to the stage - I was asked to go back to the tent and quick pile all Joe’s guitars on a cart and get them out of there. So there I was trying to get a dozen classic Perry/Aerosmith guitars into their broken cases (Joe had no money at the time) - anyway was successful.
Love the war tales! That's a beaut however 😅👍
When I think Joe Perry, I think Gibson Les Paul and his Billie guitar.
He plays them all lol you can’t forget the Strats and Teles too!
Was thinking the same thing, didn't even know he had the 2 he said that about
same here... a dark burst, or the 'Slash' one that he got back on his birthday. I NEVER think of the bejewelled monstrosity that is the BC Rich hahahaha!
When I think Joey I think his Dan Armstrong and that gretsch double neck and les Paul’s
When Brad came in at the beginning I was dying I knew right when I heard that voice it was him LOL he is hilarious.
Joe Perry better hope & pray that Trace Foster stays happy & healthy for as long as he plans to tour because that man has a wealth of knowledge about his on tour rig & how he likes it setup with a contingency plan for every possible scenario & does at least 4 times more than any tech I've ever seen on PG's Rig Rundown.. You earn your money Trace & with your work ethic taken into Consideration it should be reflected by earning what your worth & not based on the title that's been given to you...
Ikr, he's the same with Angus, he knows how he wants the amps to sound without dialing in exactly the right settings, rather dialing it into what sounds right, and he knows Joe Perry enough to know when to put effects in unlike other techs (except slash's tech) who just put the pedal in the same place every night
Trace said thank you guy's,, from his son
Wow. I feel so honored to have met Joe's guitar tech.
"Run of the mill customshop strat"
+Aaron.K good joke, actually
EathanShankley something $50.00 and 2 hrs will do
For a run of the mill band.
I had the misfortune of a fire in my studio in 2010. I had the good fortune of replacing the American Standard Strat I lost in the fire with a Customshop Deluxe Strat. What a guitar.
Aaron.K les Paul, strat, or 335
Now that is what I call a guitar tech!
He has his craft down!
I hope to work with someone of that caliber some day!
This guy would be an excellent guitar tech to have. He does a very good job and seems like he's quick during the shows when he needs to be. Joe's got some awesome guitars too!
nice to see a such competent tech guy explaining this cool gear. wish i had this guy working with me.
Sid Fernandez Dude, did you pitch for the Mets in the 80's?!
he really knew the guitars
he also tech's for ACDC, i believe.
Brad Whitford is awesome. I was dying laughing when he came over there. “Yeah yeah I’m sure they are!!”
this is the first rig rundown I saw years ago and it's still one of my favorites if not the favorite.
This is what a real tech looks & sounds like. Trace is a true music lover & hopeless gear hound. Perry knows if he brings home an amp & says it sounds great, it's going to sound great. He really puts a lot of trust in him.
I think this guy is my favorite tech I've seen through rig rundown videos so far. Knows the gear and the player. Any tech that knows his stuff rules, as long as it's not Synyster Gates' tech.
Sawyer Smoak I was thinking the same thing. it's cool to see the tech know his guitarist well enough. plus to know that right. good Lord so much stuff.
Him and Adam day (slash's guitar tech with guns N roses) are the best techs, they know when to turn on pedals without it just being here and there in the set just like every other night, when trace was working with Angus he knew about how he likes his sound without pedals, he knew that with his noise gate it needed to be really low.
"This is just your run of the mill...CUSTOM SHOP Strat."
=D When he said run of the mill I thought he was going to say Player's series or something hahahahaha
Best guitar tech ever: passionate, knowledgeable, nice guy.
"Joe's gonna want this one " - Trace Foster - best tech ever !
The coolest Rig Rundown that I’ve ever seen.
I absolutely love rig rundowns like this!! Tons of great guitars and amps. I cannot say how sick I am of watching these and seeing it's 3 Jackson guitars and an ax/fx or kemper
I love Brad!!! He is highly underrated!!!
I love the first Joe Perry model so much. It’s the guitar he played in the “Amazing” video, one of my favorite rock songs ever.
"Hey Joe what amp you gunna use today" ....."Meh"
"Hey Joe what guitar you gunna use today" ...."Meh"
"Hey Joe what pedals are you using today" ...."Meh"
"Hey Joe what songs are you playing today"..."Meh"
Best way to do it without getting bored.
This is one of the best and most informative rundowns I've seen. Really nice and helpful guitar tech.
I was actually at this show and 5 figure death punch opened up for Aerosmith. The show was sick
I love how Brad Whitford just walks right in and interrupts them...
This is a very very good rig rundown, very thorough and it's great to see the tech is so very enthusiastic about the gear too.
great inside look at my favorite guitar player of all time. thank you for this awesome backstage tour.
Thank you PG for all the Rig Rundowns you've been presenting. It's really a treat to see what the BIG GUYS use in making the songs we hear and the tidbits of info the techs tell us about the quirks / Idiosyncrasies each has.
Ironic that Brad looks the oldest, when in fact he's the "baby" of the band. lol
He looks nornal. The rest of the band look like 80 year old lesbians.
@@morganghetti haha right with plastic surgeries
Damn. That guys got some guitars. Fortunate to have such a great tech.
It's 2020... I'd like to see an updated Rig Rundown from Joe Perry. Especially since he changes guitars & amps all the time. What's he using for the Vegas Residency? Or Hollywood Vampires?
Hi I'm from the future and I also wish Joe and Brad would do updates for there setups
@Ace Steele....he's Joe f'in Perry....whatever he wants, could change night to night...but still, whatever he wants!
Absolutely gold all of Joe's amps!!!!!!
Wish Brad n Joe was my neighbors, jeez imagine getting to listen to them jam every day...
I have a TC Flashback Delay and a Jet City 20W amp (the combo version). It's nice too see some of the same stuff I have being used in a pro rig!
Tech seems a very smart guy, must be great for Joe to have somebody so simpatico.
Amazing RIG from JOE ! 😎👍
Trace is great! very entertaining to listen to him talk tech!
"I am Groot" - Groot
"Hodor" - Hodor
"Okay" - Trace Foster
"m'kay" - mr Mackey
"ECH!!!" - JonTron
Golem-Golem
“YEAH” - james hetfield
"Not The Craw, The Craw!" -The Claw (Lefty)
Nice rig run down. I wasn't aware that Joe Perry has so many guitar tunings. Interesting assortment as well.
Well done Jason! A lot to cover in a limited time span. You asked all the right questions imo.
Best guitar tech I've seen in all PG Rig Rundowns!!!!
Sorry don't think of either of those guitars when you say Perry - I think Les Paul!
For me it's Les Paul, BC Rich Bich and Dan Armstrong "Draw the Line"
It depends on how old you are, I think. I always think of the Fender 6 and Back in the Saddle. There's good clips of that here on TH-cam.
Yeah I always think of les Paul. But of course im a 90's kid. My dad showed me aerosmith.
Best Comment Award...
Joe's used strats .armstrong.b.c rich.gibson l.p .all different axes.I always thought of him as a strat player mostly.
Don't care that it's only used to create an in-ear sound for another member of the band/team. Seeing the Eleven Rack in Joe Perry's setup is awesome.
This guy is great. I watch a ton of these. This was a great one for someone into amps and pedals. Some awesome heads in this. I'm a recent gear head. Mid 30s and didn't use a pedal (aside from the DigiTech multi effects and Zoom multi and such etc..)since 17 until a lil over a year ago. I used a fuzz box and it clicked. .. I am long winded. Good video, cool gear
Love every Rig Rundown I have seen. It would be cool to have clips of the particular guitarist featured playing the different guitars amps and effects as they show them.
I played that black Gibson prototype over the weekend & it's simply awesome!! I think that Joe should do a production run BUT with a single coil on the neck & two separate volume controls & a 3 way toggle. This way HIS prototype is still the only version like that.
:)
I could've sworn this was Angus young's guitar tech.
Yes he is, he's more famously known as Joe Perry's guitar tech but I think recently he became the guitar tech for Angus Young as well.
Nathan Lam you mean Trace Foster?
Aaron Lettman yes
Jack Houck Same dude, yeah
it is.
Great video. What a wall of amps! And a guitar tech who really really know what he's doing. I enjoyed every second. Only wish Joe himself was there as well.
First Rig Rundown I EVER watched!
You can tell this guy loves Joe Perry.
I bring around the same amount of guitars for open mic.
When I was 14,15 just learning how to play, Joe Perry was my guitar idol. Rocks iirc was in 76 and was the first album I spent 8rs a days lifting the record needle over and over trying to figure out how to play his songs. Had no clue about different tunings which now I now why it was so hard. When EVH arrived from Planet Van Halen I was a ok player but when I heard Eruption I quit guitar for a few weeks. Like a lot of players I tried to imitate EVH but it was to late. I had the Perry,Nugent,Gibbons influence in my soul and EVH was just way to abstract. I knew what a humbucker was, Marshall ,Big Muff and a Rat. A whammy what? Finger tapping huh? I never was much of a cover/copy style guitarist and always played my own originals and everyone says they hear a little Joe Perry in me. Great vid and great to see these guys are still around. And yes. Perry was very lucky to have Brad Whitford as his wingman.
Different era's but sooo similar \m/ (>_
He's my idol too
I like this tech, he loves what he does and he doesn't mind sharing the knowledge
"Theres absolutely nothing special about this Telecaster. ....except it has a B Bender in it. aaaannd a boutique pickup" lol
Trace is now Angus Young's tech
and John Shanks of Bon Jovi
Man this is skills, passion and experience right there. That guy is on point 10/10 👌🏻
Best rig rundown ever, thanks guys!
I'd hire this guy in a second! Knows his stuff and a great personality too!
“It’s a 12 string set here and it’s a thirteen on the bottom” the tech guy talks in riddles. Then he says we don’t use any master volumes and Joe’s main Friedman is err a master volume setup.
Awesome tech guy. Great tour!
thanks premierguitar for all that series. Watch this religiously
"Just a run-of-the-mill Custom shop" Damn. I would love to be in a position where I can call a custom shop a regular guitar.
"I'll pull the pedal drawer out when I get to that you cameraman pleb."
That "Blue Rose" guitar is gorgeous!
EPIC, LEGENDARY! I'll never forget hearing Living on the Edge for the first time
i only have the jet city 20 watts it works for everything!!!
That single pickup Les Paul prototype with the Wilkinson whammy is tits! I hope they make it a production model.
Joe's guitar tech guy ROCKS!
Very cool 🤘
That's an awesome rig. It was being back in the vintage and rare shop I used to work in. great tech and such a cool player. There are so few guitar players these days willing to listen to their gear like that. Although if everyone had a road crew and a great tech maybe that would change.
He forgot to mention the make and settings of Joe's hearing aid.
Joe: Hey Trace, look what I got!
Trace: oh, not again!
Incredible detail in the sound dispersion!!
What a great guitar stuff, dream on!
All these beautiful instruments and they produce " Music from another Dimension"?
Love the videos. And I know this is a few years old. But would it ha killed you guys to get lapel mics?
i know i love the inside look on gear but holy shit stop sticking that dick of a mic and annoying the shit out of the tecs. i man maybe they are going for a more newsy feel but it it just so annoying so yea i agree just get some clip on mics
i like thease kind of vids cus im a gear nut and i love looking or knowing what guitar players use
one of the most interesting guitar line-ups ever!!!
He is also the guitar tech of Stevie Young from AC/DC. Please make a rig Rundown video from stevie's rig.
basing this question off of your comment and profile pic. Im assuming you are a rythym guitarist?
Ramon Janssen he's Angus's tech. Stevie's tech is someone else.
First Stevie's tech, and now Angus his tech.
@Billy Rouse Greg Howard does Stevie's gear
I always fantasize about winning the lottery and buying every amp/guitar/pedal/pick-up/speakers I've ever wanted. Joe Perry has realized my dream.
Hey Trace, that was really good, thanks man! (*Thanks Jason)
I love his tech!
3:19 Teisco Gold Foil Pickup
"And these are Steven's mic scarves full of vintage drugs!"
Excellent video! Great insight.
Wow...that was fuggin cool as heck...!!!! JOE FRIGGIN PERRY!!!!
Gotta love Brad. He's more humble than Joe and Steve.
He should be. Joe Satriani and Steve Vai is waaayy above Brad.
Johann Sebastian he was talking about Joe Perry and Steven Tyler
2inchfromtheground
The prick is just trolling. Besides, he's in denial.
yeah I figured I'd throw it right back, everybody knows who the legendary joe and steven are
And that was a typo. Who cares?
Great rig, passionate guitar tech... Interviewer who does not care about guitars! He sounds like the girlfriend you bring to the guitar shop with you.
Great guitar tech. Nice to see the guitars and amps.
That tech is a really nice guy! I enjoyed listening to him!
Damn this guitar tech earns his money..!
Unless somebody changed the alphabet since I was in school one whole step down from standard E tuning is D. Not G.
He states that it's a 6 string bass so the low string wouldn't be E, it would be B. They used to tune down half step so it would be Bb - drop that a whole step and.....nope, still doesn't work?
unless they tuned it A-a, like a baritone instead of a bass, then dropped it a full step to G-g
hahaha I was thinking the same thing, thought I heard him wrong
It's a baritone
Dave Carsley no he said it’s a 6 string bass
Trace is a professional. Great to see a behind the scenes view point.
A very smart polite guy beautiful gear. Thanks
