Just learning to be waiting somewhere is definitely an important part of training ! We're struggling with that right now with Thélia, she's getting frustrated really easily when we're not active ... It's not always easy ! And maybe it's not the most "impressive" visuals, but it's definitely as important as the "active" training sessions !
You’re totally right! I feel like it’s not seen too much online and I felt like more people needed to see that training can also be all about settling or learning to be okay with staying in one spot. You got this! Also I love your pups name! Thank you so much for watching🥺❤️✨🦮
Thank you for showing the slow portion of dogs training. It is hard for some people of the public don’t see that as working or training. People have told me my dog isn’t in training because she is just laying there and giving me eye contact. It kinda sucks. But my dog does good for the most part in quiet training. She has issues with fast, or movement based, training. We are working on it tho. Thanks for your videos.
Thank you for watching!! It’s my goal to spread awareness and also for my channel to be a safe place for everyone. I’m sorry you’ve had some people tell you that you weren’t working with your dog just cause you both didn’t appear to be actively doing something. All training, whether that be sitting down or being more physical in nature for us, is valid and vital for our dogs success but also for ourselves especially since it is so important that service dogs learn to settle in all environments! I’m so glad I could help you feel less alone and to help spread some awareness to the public. Thank you again for watching and supporting our video!!🥺❤️✨🦮
You’re definitely right that service dog training doesn’t always need to include super active things or even task work. Sometimes it is something as seemingly simple as sitting in one place and having them settle with their attention on you but that could actually be really difficult if it’s something your dog struggles with and even if it isn’t doing so in a distracting environment with more different types of distractions like people and Dogs requires more effort on the airport but it does in a quieter left affect environment so therefore it makes total sense to set aside separate training just to work on it. It look like he did a really good job keeping the standing still in front of you for a while that’s actually something my dog has an issue with to put about keeping her position but she never wants to lay down or sit sometimes that’s fine but sometimes like when I’m trying to teach her the block task it is something we need to work on. I found that if I hold a treat or a piece of food in my hand for a duration to focus on that rather than whatever thing in the environment I don’t want her attention on so you can try that holding it in your hand while the person walks by so is attentions on that and not the person then you could gradually lessen the amount of time you have it there so he can start anticipating don’t try to go toward it break their position or my task it can be okay. Do you have a focus word for him? We do and I find it super useful for my dog. Also I don’t think there’s anything wrong with him being way more in work mode with a vest on in fact I think it’s really useful my dog does a similar thing she is really good about not sniffing the ground when her harness is on and I’d much rather that.
For Atlas his word is focus (it means eyes up to mine and not on the distraction). I lm trying to lessen the amount that I have to use that cue word and I’m trying to teach him to have an auto focus around certain distractions- like people, dogs, etc. He did a lot better with holding his stand than I thought he would have done! Which I was super happy with. I try not to lure with things/cues he already knows and I only ever use a food lure if I’m teaching something and over time I get rid of it. We haven’t gone out and sat outside like we did in this video since he was probably 7 or 8 months old I wanna say. So it was definitely something we needed to revisit!
@@helperpupatlas7377 considering that you hadn’t set outside for such a long time with him I think he did really good and my dog also struggles to hold her stand she doesn’t mind staying in one place but she often wants to sit or lay down. We use focus as well it definitely helps get her attention off the distraction.
I totally recommend waiting after saying leave it a wait for that holding stare duration so start at 5 seconds and slowly increase I’d also recommend not giving a treat straight away!! I did that with my girl and it’s worked very well! But your progress is so amazing and incredible to see so well donee
@@helperpupatlas7377 oh yeah it definitely something I struggled with too! It took a while to get hang of haha!! And your so welcome I love your videos
Hi, thank you so much for your question! I got it off Amazon! It’s called “tacticollar service dog leash wrap”! It’s an “amazons choice” product and I believe it’s the third product down when you search it on Amazon ✨❤️
It’s simply because I don’t want him to become 100% reliant on treats. I want him to also be able to take my praise as a reward. With him becoming fully trained I’ll still use treats to let him know he’s doing good once in while or if we’re in a unique scenario in public that I’ve never trained him through or if we are going out for the soul purpose of training. Also life happens and sometimes I won’t always have treats on me! Now that he’s almost considered fully trained he rarely needs treats and takes my praise as a reward. If you treat 100% of the time when they already know something they expect it 100% of the time and may end up not wanting to work if there aren’t treats involved. I hope this makes sense!
I'm working with my girl on a similar leave it (stare) situation. I understand.
It’s a work in progress for sure!
Space out your treat to longer time with the guy and broom. Tell him leave it then wait 5 sec. Repeat this while extending the treat time.
Thank you! ✨🐾

Try and hold the treat back until the distraction is out of sight. Really good work from both of you❤
Thank you so much!! Also thank you for suggesting this, I’m definitely going to try it! ❤️✨🦮
Try to teach a head down command i find it helps reinforce the leave it
I do have one actually! We use “settle” but I use that for just that settling down and calming down. Thank you!
Aww amazing your progress is incredible
