    It is common, growing up our parents didnt tell us what caste we belonged to, but when i was old enough to understand what caste is and came to know what my caste is, i was traumatized i was afraid of caste questions thrown at me ,i would just dodge the question, until now i have been hiding my caste , because people treat you differently despite your qualities. i was in a relationship with a upper caste girl ,and when she came to know about my caste although she was not castist but she was devastated because her family was so conservative and she knew they will never approve of our marriage so she chose to marry her own caste , although we separated on good terms but it was caste that separated us and i know i have to live with it my whole life ,
    Caste affect us our entire life ,we have to live in constant fear, but we have to pretend caste dont exist.

      That was so relatable ...... I can recall my own school days, when I got to know that the 'untouchables' that my history book talked about, was actually 'me', was traumatizing ! And then your whole life becomes a constant battle, between whether you want to see the bare truth of casteism or pretend, like you said. Moreover, a woman from a lower caste has to fight two such battles at a time. She constantly has to keep on proving her merit to the casteist-patriarchy at every step despite the stones hurled at her, that's exhausting!

    People think that caste only happens in india and in hindu society but I can vouch that being OBC Latin Catholic I have faced discriminatory language and been shrugged as insignificant by "high caste" Christians who believe their "conversion" was so much purer than mine. I am informed that it's because they were Brahmins before conversions while we were not. Truth is I never thought of it as castism until I left my hometown and moved to North India for higher education. Then I saw caste being prevalent there and compared it to my own experience and thata when I realised it is all caste based. Sometimes I can't believe my privilege and can't believe that upper caste is till a term that people use in india in 2020. It's absolutely shameful and demeaning.

      @@dheerajb1883 if you read my comment you'll realise that casteism has roots only in hindu society. It's fact that everything that causes class/caste divisions are caused by Brahmanical Hinduism. It spilled over to other religions as well because it was so entrenched in the minds and psyche of people. And it traversed the boundaries of religion. It's actually quite scary and shameful that we as indians adopted that aspect of Hinduism and not ideals of inclusion. Although the right wingers preach about the altruistic inclusive aspect of Hinduism which Hinduism undoubtedly encompasses these are the same people who propogate casteism as is evident from Hathras and all other caste based violence in india.

    • @123xyzabccba
      @123xyzabccba 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually indians who converted from hinduism to other religions did so to escape the humiliation under Hinduism but the brahmins n banias were so cunning that a segment of them also got converted to these religions just to maintain their control over these religions and over the converted oppressed castes people. Even Islam hadn’t been spared by these bigots, where the ashrafis dominate over the azlafis. It’s because of this reason ull find the bamman-bania canal controlling every religion in India ....

    Faye, theres nothing unique about the experience of Yashica as almost every backward community member under goes such ordeal in some form or the other. The root cause of casteism is the insecurities of the 3% brahmins (who migrated to India from Eurasia) who wish to continue their stranglehold over Indias remaining 97% as long as they can.......

    • @shoumithc
      @shoumithc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I would have to disagree, it's not the 3% of the people who identify themselves as brahmins are the problem.
      Bramhinism is an idealogy, whoever follows the ideology is a "want to be bramhin" like wants to be a part of the cream and look down upon everyone who is equal or lower in the hierarchy. It is very systematic. People who subscribe to "bramhinism" are in every caste, even dalits.

    In school i didn't know all this and never faced because i was at first place in calsses. Now I'm in Delhi, my room owner asked me my caste and said Chaudhary is jaat, not bhangi right, i didn't answer, she started cursing bhangi chamar, I have not revealed my caste yet that I'm from sc community, there are lots of stories... In my workplace i have not revealed my caste, because I know they assume me as Thakur and treat me good but once they will know they are going to behave differently... Leave it

    I understand her basis of need of reservation which is well founded. But I feel once a parent benefits from reservation there should be a system in place that bars the child to benefit from the same reservation system again. Else it is unfair to the other population as jobs/seats in our country is anyways limited.

    • @MhetreMudita
      @MhetreMudita 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Reservation + financial status could help filter out genuine personal get the reservation benefits. But you need to understand reservation is not just about seats or jobs, it is about the respect that is due. Example: even after scoring well , when a Dalit student becomes doctor , he/she is still treated badly by colleagues stating reserved doctors aren’t good enough. The shaming never ends. Reservation is important on many levels, but unfortunately it is only being milked for votes.

    Nation unite as a great Indians, India is big failure without Caste, Creed, Religion and Languages.
    Dalit on top post in our country is not an answer to the problem Dalit facing in India Today, they are only a curse and like gun pointing on you 24 hours on your head, these leaders hands and legs tied, they are helpless since they are only a postal boys in the hands of Anti Dalit & Minorities Multi Million Corporate bosses grace Our Political Parties survice in India Today.

    I also oppose the caste system as it is totally baseless.......and this patriarchy system doesn't only exist in so called lower caste but in upper caste also... Caste and patriarchy system both should be shuttered.... Women are treated like nothing even when they are everything... I think the caste system has been deeply penetrated into the minds of every citizen that needs to be changed

    Caste is a Investment for all Govt with out which they cannot swing the votes
    Whats funny is we educated talk about all the issues surrounding caste and its agressions etc when it comes to vote we forget everything and knowingly support wrong political leaders this is happening post independence with all Govts ... Until we change nothing happens... small changes like not looking the bride or groom among our own caste not insisting on caste in school and colleges etc... these are the changes we can do in our life with out that nothing happens if you blame the govt.... Some times I see some ppl choose friends if same caste and we blame others for it. We need to change...

    This is the first interview that I didn't enjoy. The guest sounded like she was reciting stories her elders told her while living a privileged life. Also, there is no way someone can judge your caste based on the color of your skin in India. That would be racism.
