I am a big fan of what you're doing with your art style! Your videos (as well as worldbuilding notes, artifexian, and biblaridion) have played a big part in inspiring me to start my own worldbuilding channel, and I actually posted my first video today. Thanks for the epic content!
@@NakariSpeardane I think the elusive and ever-pervasive Algorithm™ automatically hides comments that mention anything relating to someone else's channel, so it all good. Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad to be among channels as cool as yours!
Oh, I also really like the lessons the people take away from their myth, especially the part about no baby-prophecies. Like, you don't grow up when you can drive, or drink, or vote, but when you can have omens and portents foretold of your fate.
I always thought prophecies in Greek myth were kinda cruel to make about babies. Like, at least give them a chance! So in Elush, getting to find out a prophecy about yourself contributes a lot to self-discovery. Most people get told pretty vague things, so they can reconcile their own identity with that without being completely ruled by destiny.
This reminds me of a fun little worldbuilding note about Romulans in Star Trek Picard, about how in Romulan culture, a home has two 'doors'. The front one, which is in fact just a false door to deter outsiders, and a secondary secret 'back' door, which is the true entrance. Wonder if the writers drew inspiration from a similar core concept of Greek mythos. In any case, really fun idea! Alternate homes like this is a really fun concept, and it's a fascinating glimpse to just changing something really minorly can lead to a radically different kind of culture.
very interesting. I love the myth about the sun and the moon. My only question is what happens when the moon is seen by day? or by solar eclipses? is the moon coming back because she forgot her keys at the day sky? what happens during lunar eclipses? very fascinating i just found your channel from biblaridion and I love it.
A rabbit heard whispers from the future? Is that a Watership Down reference? Also, great video as always! Your take on culture, archeology, religion, etc. is so creative but so grounded. It's incredible.
I love how you describe structures like living things. A house that grows and matures and buds off into new baby houses. Another of my favorite youtubers talks a lot about this kind of thing in this vid: th-cam.com/video/mexs39y0Imw/w-d-xo.html (Caution, somewhat spooky). I'm a level designer, so I eat this stuff up. Great video!
The Greeks read much moral value into their "myths" just like we read much into our religions. Because to Grecian peoples, they weren't myths, _they were religion._ (edit: formatting)
Does anyone else find these videos so cute? The voice, the art, the story - I love it! What would it take for an Elush person to actually cross a doorway? Life-or-death? Momentous events? or...? Love the worldbuilding!
Really desperate thieves might, but they're not exactly following moral attitudes anyway, and they'd be noticed pretty fast anyway - Elush families are very big, and people don't really live alone. And technically, children are meant to be born physically inside the house or they shouldn't be let inside, but people will turn a blind eye if not, and just pretend they were born there. There might also be occasions where someone can be temporarily adopted into a family so that they can enter a household, but I haven't come up with those yet. :P Thank you!
This is my style of world building too, I don't view myself as a world builder but as a cultural anthropologist, I'm studying their world, not making it. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one doing this!
The Greeks did seem to take the morality of their stories seriously. Zeus was also given the same prophecy by Cronos, that his children would overthrow him the same way (he ate one woman for fear of this). Prometheus implied humans were the ones who were going to overthrow Zeus, and this strange idea of placating cruel gods you may one day overthrow has traces throughout Greek myth and culture.
Marriage isn't really a concept here! And people have sex outside the house - usually in guestrooms specifically set up for meetings with friends/"friends" that don't count as the house.

For some reason TH-cam hid this comment from me D: I wish I'd seen it sooner, your channel looks great!

@@NakariSpeardane at what age are children usually considered old enough to defend themselves in Elush?
OOOOFFFFF. arglgilufhgdsafhh. That myth is **chef's kiss** and then the cultural context behind it?
I love the dingos too
Loved the sun and moon myth at the end!
Dawn Bronze me too

Ooh this was excellent! Such cool ideas with those doors and the sun myth
Your art resembles a picture book. Glad to see you're beginning to develop your own distinct style.

I didn’t realize there was another person who had the overlap of watching both Nakari Speardane and Jacob Geller.

i like the idea of a village or community being in the same structure
I really love that style of home
I know, right? There's something about courtyards inside sprawling houses that's just so... *home-y* in a weird way.

Absolutely fantastic as always!
I really like how you always root your inspiration from archeological discussion ^^
Great piece of worldbuilding here ^^
I wonder what the Elush would think about an eclipse, very interesting mythology to speculate about
After bingeing all your great videos I think to not subscribe would be criminal.
Omg this is so beautiful!
is elush and sirksey in the same world or in different worlds?
just curious

How do marriages and sex work if you are not supposed to go inside someone else's house and the partners aren't living together?
Marriage isn't really a concept here! And people have sex outside the house - usually in guestrooms specifically set up for meetings with friends/"friends" that don't count as the house.
So by that logic, are the stars still young since they haven't defended themselves yet? What will it look like when they grow up.
