We pull over for funeral processions, turn our music off and men remove hats or caps. Some people put their hand over their heart. 17. "Bless your Heart" is a nice way of saying you're an idiot. 18. No matter what kind : sprite, coke, pepsi, mtn dew, it isn't called soda or pop. It is all called coke. 19. There will always be a tractor on the two lane when you are running late, so allow time for that. 20. If you don't like the weather in Tennessee, wait 15 minutes, it will change.

@@rohshelly340 IMO, rural education for kids is better than schools in big cities. youll find the same curriculum, a less crowded school and friendlier kids. some rural schools even have a more diverse curriculum. my school had a farm where kids could learn how to take care of farm animals, we had a trades school as well. so if some kid wants to learn a trade instead of going to college some schools offer classes in areas such as: metal works, automotives, small engines, nursing, electronics and secretarial classes.
I have lived in middle Tennessee for over 25 years. Yeah its pretty humid in summer and thunderstorms can be scary. The people are overall pretty nice and the bugs don't bother me much. I retired here and plan on staying as the cost of living is reasonable and there is still plenty of woods and wildlands. I live on an acre in a rural area, my neighbors are nice and I love it.
Tennessee is one of the prettiest places in the US that I've been. Anyone who thinks we're killing all the trees needs to go to Tennessee - it's nonstop trees, forever! Knoxville is my favorite.
My family and I live in upstate NY. Our dream is to move to Eastern Tennessee. We visited last year, and looked at property in the Union and Claiborne County areas. The thing that stuck out most to us, aside from the beautiful scenery, was that nearly everyone we encountered was SO friendly and polite. Living in NY, people are generally pretty unhappy, and are often rude to others without cause. With the high cost of living, insane taxes (that the governor is threatening to raise), excessive regulations, and laws that trample our rights, it's no wonder people are miserable here. In Tennessee, we felt like a weight was lifted off of us. It felt like home. When we got back to NY, the whole family went through a mild depression for the first two weeks. Our short time in Tennessee made us feel more welcome and comfortable than the town I grew up in. Lord willing we'll get back soon, and hopefully this time it will be permanent.
Right with u man. From Syracuse and Cuomo is destroying this state. Visited Chattanooga, Knoxville, pigeon forge/Gatlinburg. The landscape of the rolling hills and mountains remind me of upstate NY but better weather and a better run state

I relocated to Northern New Hampshire some years ago, I loved the no sales tax, friendly, small town vibe, the seasons, the mountains, the national forest... I now live in a “city” with 7000 people (for work)... but it’s the ONLY place for miles with any significant population. But as I’ve gotten older I realize the 7 months of winter are just too much... I think Tennessee is the opposite that way, still plenty of friendly, small towns, mountains and national forest only with 7 months of summer instead!
I have lived in Southern California in Orange County California for all 46 of my years. @@Pressingontoperfection so many reasons but mostly economics. I live northwest of Chattanooga and I don’t have much of a problem with mosquitos. Stink bugs and gnats are a nuisance though, but it’s only for a few months of the year. I moved here from south Texas where mosquitos & roaches were everywhere!
You'll be in great company here! The best way to move to TN from out of state is to move here for what it is. Most of these cons are a non issue for me. I am from TN and now live in south TX. TN is heaven compared to south TX. I sure miss living in TN. The sales tax is bad but the property tax in TX makes up the difference and more.
I moved from California to TN two years ago. One thing I noticed is food is more expensive here. My food expenses have doubled since moving to TN. The portions sizes in California were much bigger and you always took some home, despite the entire plate being a few dollars cheaper than a meal in TN (Mexican food is an example.) The fresh produce is so much cheaper in California, but that’s not much of a fair comparison considering California provides much of the produce throughout the US. Sure is a plus though. Tennessee is very pretty, but as someone who eats a lot, the prices and variety are disappointing.
Bro same! I moved here 2 years ago from California and noticed the same thing. A bland meal at salsaritas cost me 17$! What are some cons you’ve noticed about Tennessee now that the honeymoon phase is gone? I find it very hard to find good food😂 at least in the Knoxville area. Also we don’t find that the people are as friendly as everyone made it out to be. I believe Californians are way nicer especially when it comes to customer service😂
@@jordyjord1519 historically, the idea of Southern Hospitality is tied in with, having “help” with cooking and cleaning, and tending to the crops. You do the math. It’s pretty easy to be “hospitable” and whip up a meal when you have someone to do it for you. Much of the South was built on the Ethos of imitating European aristocracy. Anyway I think a lot of the compliments of the South are from southerners themselves not outsiders. As for East TN, it’s always been historically isolated so there’s not a lot of diversity. The whiskey here is bomb and the many moonshine brands are great! Old Forge is my 100% favorite. It’s a shame it has a bad light, I see it as no different than Cali’s Vineyards. It’s an art and a craft. Also, the McDonalds Apple Pie is actually a real Appalachian recipe that originated in Knoxville! So you’ve had a piece of the South this whole time. Nowadays my wife and make huge rice beans and pork burritos with good salsa all week, then we go to Asheville on the weekend to get different food. Cons though… to sum it up 1. Food is pretty bland and expensive 2. Cost of Living is low but that also correlated with demand, gotta ask yourself why people would prefer to live elsewhere. That’ll take some soul-searching. 3. East TN is MAD suburban, and they don’t even realize it. It’s not as rural and country as people think it is. I felt more country pretty much anywhere in Cali, even SF haha that was a gold mining spot! I’d check out Not Just Bikes to kind of explain the reason why things are built the way they are here. That’s pretty much the only cons I have, but that’s also cause there isn’t a lot going on here. Knoxville is good though! Try heading further East and it gets more and more sparse…, enjoy being in that area haha it has the only Costco for miles. Hit me up though on one of my videos or something if you want to chat about the change and all that. It’s good to share experiences

My brother lived in Murfreesboro for quite awhile. I've lived in 7 different towns in Tennessee. In the mid 80s I lived outside of Deason, about 16 miles from Murfreesboro, and I worked at the Pillsbury factory in Murfreesboro. Best factory job I ever had. But though they have one of the highest sales taxes, they have very low unemployment compensation checks.
I was planning on retiring to Johnson City TN. I love the town of Jonesborough as well. I found that housing prices are a little more affordable in Elizabethton as well as Greeneville, however I also heard that the crime is higher. If you can let me know if you know anything about these areas I would really appreciate it. Great Video!!
I lived in the Boro back in the old days when the city had just 30,000 people; now it's another Marietta, GA. My biggest question for you is how you can have an office across the street from Culver's and not have an addiction to frozen custard? Also, how do you withstand all the terrible traffic in Cool Springs? To get from Whole Foods to Bellevue yesterday took an hour and 10 minutes. And speaking of tornadoes, Cool Springs Mall is on the site of a prior killer tornado on Christmas Eve in the late 1980's. It came through Franklin around Rebel Meadows subdivision off HPK, passed just north of present day Ravenwood High School, and continued NE toward Nashboro Village. Williamson and Rutherford Counties are now considered to be part of the new tornado alley. There have now been more than 50 tornadoes in Tennessee this year after more than a dozen added in the last two weeks. About 70% of all TN tornadoes touch down in Middle Tennessee, with most in the Nashville metropolitan area. 15 different tornadoes touched down on 12/12/21. Tennessee is also number one in the world for nocturnal tornadoes.

I live near Fall Creek Falls, which is a huge state Forrest also..and I’m right on the edge. Soooo many trees. Fresh air, and peace!
my mom was gonna move to knoxville but me moved close to it
Agreed love to see those mountains.
I live in Knoxville it is amazing it’s not too much people and not just not enough people it’s is great 👍
My family and I live in upstate NY.

We went camping with a group of people in Oklahoma and we had about twenty-one tornados coming towards us. The men in the camp got together and prayed in the torrential rain. The tornadoes split up and went around us. The next morning the mayor and the city council of Chandler came to visit us to find out what kind of people we were. Our prayers also happen to save their town. We were on the other side of the expressway from the town. We were wet, we survived, all part of camping.

Thanks for the information. I love how friendly the neighbors are there.
Cons though… to sum it up
1. Food is pretty bland and expensive

Sales tax in San Jose, Ca is 9.55%. Our gasoline is also taxed. Prices are currently between $4.45-$5.00/gal for unleaded.

Never been further west in Tn. than Nashville but enjoyed everything I experienced. Have a friend here in Va. that is from Tn. but don´t recall where. Anyway I liked your presentation, factual, honest and not over bearing.
Thank you so much!
Hi Rachel my husband and I are considering moving here. We are coming from California what is ur opinion on which part of the state is best for those transitioning from a place where the weather is pretty awesome all the time? Btw we are conservatives! My husband has a fantastic career in California but we are at a breaking point where the money isn’t worth the lunatic liberal policies!
Hi Rachael, very nice video and information. I was randomly picking states and researching where a good place to move might be...and Tennessee came to my mind, then I started searching information, then came across your video. Seems to be great all around, I am originally from IL.
I'm glad the information is helpful. Let me know if you have any questions about life in TN
Coming to knoxville from bakersfield California
@Marcus P don't worry! I have no intention of bringing this morally twisted value system with me! I might as well be an alien here. I look forward to living in a place with conservative views and values.
Actually, in the Central Valley (Bakersfield and Fresno) they tend to be much more conservative than most people think of Californians. I am originally from Fresno and moved to eastern Tn. About 10 years ago. Love it!
@@tracyfinch3974 I moved here about 4 months ago, I also lived in San Francisco, CA for 4 years. Tennessee is a wonderful state. The people are wonderful atleast in the town I live. I don't want to see the ways of CA brought here. Not meaning you, but many people escape from CA, yet they continue to have a leftist mentallity.
@@anthonym3051 I agree. What has happened to Cali is a travesty. I can't wait to get out!
We are right behind you. Coming from Port Hueneme, CA. We will NOT be bringing the ways of the twisted state. Can’t wait to leave and be among like minded people. We will fight with all my might to keep Tennessee the Tennessee we fell in love with. #VFL
Thanks so much for your video. It is wonderfully informative. My husband and I are considering retiring in Tennessee. In which city (cities) would we find the coolest weather and the lowest crime rates?
Gas prices in my area of Tennessee 1.82 a gallon Whoooo!
Awesome & Informative video.
I stayed at The Magnolia House B&B in Fountainhead. I loved it.
Coming from Colorado where it's alot different in every way, I was suprisingly astounded by the Beautiful scenery Tennessee has, birds chirping everywhere you go, people generally seem nicer.
I am planning to move there to either Andersonville/Clinton area or the Gatlinburg area/bordering cities and towns near Gatlinburg. Any suggestions? Looking for "lowest crime" areas that still hold a lower than most cost to rent. Looking for a rent - to - own house / property. Looking to make the move June - August of 2022.
Thank You!
I Appreciate You.
From Ohio wanting to move to eastern Tennessee
Seattle here. With expanded work-from-home options I have been exploring different living options. Seems easy enough to fly back once a month (or less) as needed. Tennessee looks like an attractive location. it's on my short list. What's the best location to find a high-rise condo, gigabit ethernet web access and a Whole Foods?
This just about describes the Green Hills area of Nashville perfectly. They have condos walking access to either Whole Foods or the Trader Joe's. I'm sure Nashville has an Internet option to fit your needs - they are even one of the cities to offer Google Fiber.
@@RachaelintheBoro Thanks. I am going to add your valuable information to my search notebook.
10.25% in Los Angeles County
9.9% throughout most of WA.
@@AlaskaErik cost of goods though?
@@AlaskaErik I am inclined to believe you. My only knowledge of Alaskan prices comes from a self described "poor hungry native boy just trying to make it." He is from Wasilla lol.
Thanks for the Info I am considering
Moving from New Mexico to EastTN in spring 2022.
Fantastic! Glad to hear it. Thanks for watching the video
Were moving from Roswell, NM next year, Tired of our votes being flushed, my in laws live in the Cookeville area, can't wait to vote red and count in TN.
How does Mountain City and Johnson County measure up? We own land near Lake Watagua and thought about building up there.
Keep yer bugs and humidity.. Ill just visit you in the fall.
