I recently discovered you guys as I was searching for Japanese countryside videos and a video of you all came up where you all including Thomas were hiking in Japan. Since then I have been viewing all the other videos. This one is from so long ago and its amazing to see how each of you have remained committed and do everything with humility and excellence. Its just breath-taking to be with you all in your journey and see the comradery. Lots of positive energy in every video.
By far my favorite Adventure Archives episode! Everything from the dialogues, cinematography, things like reaching the first camp site and getting a few welcomed treats and ending a harsh hike in a place straight out of a Ghibli movie, with curry and a bath house is just 100% ❤️❤️❤️!
So my wife walked into the room exactly when you guys were soaking in the hot springs. "What the heck are you watching?" she asked. "A backpacking video," I told her. "Right," she said. Anyway, another great video, guys. I think if you weren't doing backpacking videos, you could be doing cooking/eating videos. Food is such an integral part of the backpacking experience and you guys capture it well. The shots of Mt. Fuji were amazing. Always appreciate the botany lessons as well. Thanks for taking us along.
Hahahah, that is hilarious. Thanks so much for watching. It's so true, food is a huge part of the experience, and it's always fun to cook something a bit more elaborate or interesting. We were so happy that we could see Mt. Fuji so clearly from the tent site and the trail - seemed too good to be true. Cheers! -Andrew
At least she didn't see you watching them in the men' room halfway up the mountain! That was almost TMI :) I was just waiting to hear the unzipping jokes haha.
theworldsoutside.com/2019/05/21/a-song-of-wind-and-drizzle/ Hey! Here's an article about an ill-planned climb of one of Japan's favourite peaks, Daisen in Tottori prefecture. It's a relatively easy climb if you're half-sensible (we weren't), and I recommend it highly.
I just want to say...i'm so jealous of you man. None of my friends or family enjoy hiking and prefer to stay at home and watch sports. I'm forcing myself to go out of my comfort zone and do meetups with strangers just to connect with a group of people with similar hobbies. I need new friends :'(
@@MichaelAndersen_DK I am sure he carried that heavy and cumbersome equipment for a reason and that reason surely would have been the quality of the filmography. We can admit that the filming of this video is first rate.
Profound statement in 40:24: "Experiencing different places and people, whether in the wilderness or in the city, is an incredibly enriching experience. These differences are what make the world such a rich and vibrant place to live. Without other cultures and varied landscapes, our world would be a dreary, monotonous place to live... It is other peoples and cultures that introduce us to new ideas and new paradigms." **** If I might add, every man has his calling and mission in this life, and yours is something special.
I'd like to add however, living in Japan can be monotonous in it's culture and food, it's population is incredibly homogeneous as well as it's landscape. Still Japan is a great place to visit and if you don't mind 4,000+ ft elevation gain hikes, a good place to hike.
These days friendship and brotherhood is only a spoken word with no consistency it is self serving for most. What you guy's have is priceless keep it thick with realism and it will last forever I wish you many more safe journeys. Aloha and Mahalo Big Duke I am a Hawaiian an almost lost race.
Taking on Kumotori this weekend -- As someone who studied TV journalism in college, I did not expect to find something so brilliantly shot, narrated and edited. Needless to say, I learned about a little more than just Kumotori. Keep it up!
My god. This channel is a goldmine. Thank you so much for all of the effort you put into these videos. They're not only incredibly entertaining but also deep and thought-provoking. I love the little bits of reflection you guys do throughout these videos and the metaphors you find in nature which apply so cleverly to everyday life. Wish I could be out there with you guys. Such a great company! Thank you!
Shoot, thank you so much for the kind words! Really glad you enjoy the vids, especially the reflection/philosophy bits of it. I feel like it can come off as melodramatic, so I'm glad you appreciate it :) Thanks so much for your comment, and thank you for watching! Cheers! -Andrew
I feel guilty for watching this without paying! Beautifully done. The BGM, lessons on local fauna, entertaining banter and incredibly breath-taking footage make this the best video on being outdoors that I’ve seen.
These videos remain on my mind for days. I have always loved hiking and I am re-inspired. Most of my backpacking buddies are now slowing down and just doing day hikes, but when I watch your videos, I feel like Im there with you. I feel young again.
That intro has me HYPED! Can't wait to watch the full episode. You guys are basically the standard by which I compare other TH-cam hiking genre videos against. Thanks for taking us with you on another awesome adventure!
More than 1 hour video seemed too long at first, but I couldn’t stop watching and ended up watching everything. Awesome picture quality and good editing. Thank you!
My youngest son and I are currently enjoying this episode. The cinematography is beautiful. Your episodes are always a great reminder of our sacred union with the natural world. The view of the starry night skies are a reminder of our being nestled within the cosmos. In other words, you guys make some real nice videos! Thanks!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Glad you and your son enjoy the video :) Nature inspires us and makes it easy to convey all of those feelings and ideas. Thanks again for watching! -Andrew
I stumbled onto your videos today by accident and am thoroughly enjoying your adventures in hiking. You produce such high quality filming and narrating, and I get to sit in the comfort of my home and not worry about the weather or whether or not I can start a fire! Your hard work, and I mean all of you, is much appreciated. Peace and blessings.
Thank you AA. I have seen all of your vids now. They are great!!! You can really understand your work you guys put in. This adventure was the best. Please more Japan adventures!!!!!!
My grandmother living in Japan sent me some ready to eat curry and I am going to enjoy it tonight. Also by the way I have watched this episode a zillion times.
I think I've watched 50 Adventure Archives videos in the last few weeks. So peaceful, calm, nice. Even at work in the day, not much to do these days, I watch. Come home, spend time with the family and then watch again. Fall asleep watching with my tablet.
Loved it guys. I also love that any time you mention that there are differences you also mention that there are commonalities right after. It's a very diplomatic way of approaching those comments.
sensory overload happening with this video. stunning scenery the whole way. so far I'm never disappointed with what you guys do, but this is going to be a tough one to top.
That's great to hear! Glad you liked the video. We were really happy the scenery turned out to be what it was. Thanks for your support, and thank you for watching! -Andrew
That was absolutely INCREDIBLE! From start to finish- I have no words. You captured this incredibly well. Chills, to elation- We felt like we were there with you. Thanks so much for taking us along. Cheers. Eric
Just watched 4 of your hiking episodes back to back, Dolly Sods, Red River Gorge, Algonquin and this one.. and wow.. just wow. You guys are incredibly talented! The camerawork is breathtaking, the narration is poetic and inspiring and the music is a such joy to listen to. Thank you for sharing the natural beauty of this world as well as your wisdom with all of us
Great video with exquisite camera work and rich narration. First time viewer here on your channel and I can't believe I watched the entire thing. The morning scenery on Day 2 is amazing. Keep up the good work, guys!
I don't normally comment on youtube at all, but I gotta do it because this video was just that good. That mount Fuji shot was simply amazing. Keep up the good work guys!

I've been researching hiking in Japan and your video popped up on my feed and I am happy that it did! I saved it for when I had a nice chunk of time to watch it and I was so impressed. Your shots of Mt. Fuji (especially the time-lapse) were awesome. I loved the way you talked about the local flora and fauna and just the general impressions that you all had about hiking a difficult track in Japan. Well done! I look forward to checking out your other adventures on our incredible planet.
I really like that they do not add a time or mileage on the signs. It slows you down and helps you focus on where you are now, not where you want to be.
Thanks so much! Ya know, originally when we started, we were apprehensive about having to create original music, but it has really become an enjoyable part of the creation experience, trying to create music that melds with the video, scene and setting! ~Bry
The music is one of my favorite parts of your videos. And the fact that you compose your own instead of using some generic EDM or post-rock or something like you'd hear on so many other youtube videos makes your videos very distinctive. A lot of the music has a feeling like an RPG, and it's really enjoyable. You should put the music on bandcamp or something.
You guys lit a flame into my soul! The thirst for wanderlust, camping and adventure grew even bigger after watching your videos, starting with this. Continue with the adventures and keep on inspiring other people to wander and explore the unknown!
Great job guys. I really found everything about that first morning on the mountain to be perfect - the shots and narration and music. And I'm proud of you for the closing commentary. For the record, I was worried that maybe I'd sort of "seen it all" after following the vlog posts. Not even close. Not even a bit. You're just too good at crafting an adventure. Also for the record, I think you'd make at least a little bank if you offered for sale itineraries of your trips; I know I've found myself swerving toward trails or areas (or restaurants) you've showcased. Tried to patreon it up tonight, but my computer isn't playing nicely with the site. I have zero doubt that your continued productions will remind me to try again soon (they locked me out for too many attempts). Thanks for the adventures.
Thank you so much for the kind words, and I'm really glad you liked the narration. Haha, and it's great to know the vlogs didn't spoil the episode - I was worried they would, and was harping on Robby not to show too many shots of Fuji. Offering itineraries is a really good idea, I'll talk to the others about that! We actually have started putting some basic information in the description (like the coordinates for the trailhead, etc). And no worries - thank you so much for watching! Cheers :) -Andrew
I was stationed in Misawa, Japan and if you all ever plan a trip back, I really encourage you all to investigate what they have to offer up there. I left a piece of my heart in Japan and hope to make it back some day. I was envious of your curry meal, along with all the wonderful snacks they have. Great episode.
Last month, I've traced the same route to Mt.Kumotori and change the direction to the north and finally reached to Mitsumine shrine. It's really nice that I can clearly see where you've taken the movies during the hike. None of Japanese have taken such a nice image of this route. I'm quite sure a lot of Japanese hiker also love to see this images. This year 2017 is exactly the height of Mt.Kumotori(2017m) so there are more visitors than usual. Thanx a lot and have a nice trip around the world.
I really enjoyed the video. I met you guys on the trail at Red River Gorge where you told me about your you tube page. Been following you ever since...just no clue why I never commented before. Keep it up fellas. I envy everything you all get to experienced. Truly blessed.
Oh shoot, that's awesome! Thanks for commenting, it feels like it's been a while since that trip. Do you remember where it was on the trail that we met? Thanks again for checking out the channel and watching the videos. Cheers! -Andrew
This brought me so much joy and relaxation, I barely stay for 20 mins watch on TH-cam, but this one was special, gonna dig your channel for more, thx a lot!
I didn’t even notice how long this was until I was 40 minutes in. I have now spent an hour watching four dudes walk through the woods and enjoyed every minute of it. How in the hell these guys managed to make watching them walk through the fucking woods so enjoyable that I just watched them do so for an hour and don’t regret any of it is beyond me, but they fucking did it. I put on every hat I own just so that I can take all of them off to you guys, holy shit this was amazing.
Fantastic effort guys! So refreshing to watch as if you experience it yourself, amazing nature views, great camaraderie feeling among the participants..... Just so well done! Music is absolutely to the point and is a big part of this video.... Thank you so much!
You guys did a great job on this video! I not only enjoyed the great natural beauty of Japan that I've never seen before, but also your camaraderie with each other. Really enjoyable work, keep it up!
Amazing content! Keep up the great work, really enjoyed this episode. This channel is a hidden gem, you deserve a bigger audience. I will go to Japan for a month this summer, I cant wait! Greetings from the Netherlands
I'd been looking forward to this episode so much since seeing the japan vlogs. Thank you so much for making these films! Watching them over the past few years has come to be one of my favorite sources of inspiration, both in hiking/being outdoors as well as mastering the new technology we have at our disposal to share with others!
Thank you so much for watching! Really glad that the videos provide inspiration, and you all provide inspiration to us to keep making them. Thanks for your support! Cheers! -Andrew
Another excellent Adventure Archives video!! The video footage at 31:57 was amazing! I bet that hot tub felt good after all of the mountain hiking... I knew that this video would be great after watching Robby's vlogs! You guys nailed it with the video shots, editing, and narration. Outstanding!!!
Thank you as always Bob! Thanks so much for all the kind words and watching as always. Dude, the hot spring was like. Utterly sublime. I couldn't believe it. Hahaha especially the homemade meal he made for us. Just amazing. -Robby
My fist video watching of yours but I am going to binge watch all of them. Excuse my lack of names but the Gentleman at 6:00 was very knowledgeable and it was fun learning fun/random facts from him. Keep it going!!
Great intro. 23:52 lol 30:32 - 32:02 killer shots That japanese serow, how cool. I bet some folks freaked out back in the day running across one of those at night on a trail. Great vid as always, enjoyed. Thanks for taking us along for the journey.

MY HAT IS OFF TO THE FELLOW WHO CARRIED THE CAMERA AND TRIPOD ON HIS SHOULDER THE WHOLE WAY!
My thoughts exactly. That's awesome work hauling that unhandy thing all the way to the top and down again.
I don't understand it myself. Why is such a cumbersome tripod setup necessary on a hike?

How in the hell these guys managed to make watching them walk through the fucking woods so enjoyable that I just watched them do so for an hour and don’t regret any of it is beyond me, but they fucking did it. I put on every hat I own just so that I can take all of them off to you guys, holy shit this was amazing.
Fantastic effort guys! So refreshing to watch as if you experience it yourself, amazing nature views, great camaraderie feeling among the participants..... Just so well done! Music is absolutely to the point and is a big part of this video.... Thank you so much!
Nice video as always, glad you are showing somewhere I will never get to visit...
You guys did a great job on this video! I not only enjoyed the great natural beauty of Japan that I've never seen before, but also your camaraderie with each other. Really enjoyable work, keep it up!
The scenery was really amazing! I would imagine it might have been kind of hard to leave.
This is one of the best You tube shows I have ever seen. So beautiful

All your videos have great replay value, but this one especially requires multiple views :)
That intro definitely felt like a documentary you guys should host a tv show or something like Netflix
Amazing content! Keep up the great work, really enjoyed this episode. This channel is a hidden gem, you deserve a bigger audience. I will go to Japan for a month this summer, I cant wait! Greetings from the Netherlands
Awesome, have a great time in Japan. I know robby really wants to go to the Netherlands! ~Bry
He should, its nice here. The landscape is really flat though compared to Japan or the US. Where in the Netherlands does Robby want to go?
Flat is good! I don't know if there's any specific place he had in mind, but it all just seems beautiful to me! -Andrew
Cheers! -Andrew
It makes me smile watching you guys sitting around eating ramen and curry 😁

Another excellent Adventure Archives video!! The video footage at 31:57 was amazing! I bet that hot tub felt good after all of the mountain hiking... I knew that this video would be great after watching Robby's vlogs! You guys nailed it with the video shots, editing, and narration. Outstanding!!!
Thank you as always Bob! Thanks so much for all the kind words and watching as always. Dude, the hot spring was like. Utterly sublime. I couldn't believe it. Hahaha especially the homemade meal he made for us. Just amazing. -Robby
Mount Fuji might just be the most iconic mountain in the world! That snow cap has something magical about it.
Agreed! It's a very, very unique looking mountain.
My fist video watching of yours but I am going to binge watch all of them. Excuse my lack of names but the Gentleman at 6:00 was very knowledgeable and it was fun learning fun/random facts from him. Keep it going!!
