No you dont call this a bad movie lmao😂😂😂 i loved this movie as a kid.. i havent seen it in a while tho i may be blinded by nostalgia
I'm blinded by nostalgia, most definitely. LOL. I still LOVE this film.
I refuse to think of this as a bad movie, it’s a
B-movie, hood classic.
@@Kori-T AGREED.And entertaining too, despite the wire-work having folks do impossible fighting. LOL.
I loved this movie and it's one of those things where I can't tell you why but it hasn't formed a large part of what I watch
And I'll be honest I love Double Toasted and Corey but when I saw this title them calling it a bad movie I was ready to fight
Trust me, most of the bad movie reviews are movies I loved as a kid. But If actually watch some these movies you'll realize how bad these movies are. Still love them tho.
Y'all wildin, that was a certified childhood classic. It's ineligible to be classified as a horrible movie. It's a 7/10 at worst
Big facts lol
If ya gotta qualify it with childhood classic that’s probably a sign my guy. Rewatch it
This movie was always garbage to me, even when I was about 12 years old and deeply in love with Aaliyah
"Hood classic". This was garbage. You're allowed to like garbage.

This is one of those films that everyone knows isn’t that good but we still love for some reason.

Nothing wrong with kicking back to a guilty pleasure flick from time to time, man.
This is a movie I've watched since I was a lil dude and it's silly as hell, but it adds to the charm.
I saw this in theaters twice, had the VHS and I'm gonna get the blu ray lol the freaking sound effects for the kicks, the dodging and the just anything someone does in this movie
It isn't good by a long shot.....IT'S GREAT....YEA I SAID IT.....HOOD/CULT CLASSIC....
@aeoneditingservice that's a silly rebuttal. People can not enjoy things. I hate my drive to work because it seems to have a lot of unnecessary turns. "BuIlD a BetTeR rOaD."
Don't forget, Aaliyah actually filmed some scenes for the 2 Matrix sequel movies before she died. She was replaced by Marvin Gayes's daughter, Nona. Aaliyah was on her way to greatness. Approaching her prime in singing and acting. Broke my heart when she passed.
DMX too
Also sad that she wasn't alive to see his abuser R Kelly taken down .

any chance for a Romeo Must Die 2? Will Jet Li and Aaliyah return?
It’s definitely nostalgia. It’s not a bad film either yet it could’ve been better. The soundtrack and the cast makes the movie golden.

Absolutely & it's My Number One Movie in My Book.

@@Pewpewpew182Mr. Lindo is a LEGEND! ❤
Yes! A beautiful screen presence that matched her talent. I remember when Try Again was everywhere. I loved her action sequences with Jet Li! To be fair, I wish Romeo Must Die was used for one of their Retro Movie Reviews. This alongside The Last Dragon and Big Trouble in Little China. ❤

I always liked this movie. I had it on VHS. Big Aaliyah and Jet Li fan. I remember the making of for the movie showing Jet Li showing Aaliyah how to do her own stunts. Her death is still sad and unfortunate to me. She was a star and even rising higher before her untimely death.
Her tragic death from a plane crash was sad and unfortunate to you? Wow, what a unique perspective. I wonder if her legions of friends and her family thought a mega talent dying like that in her early 20s was sad and unfortunate too?

The early 2000’s king fu movies were a good era of film. They had everything, good music, great fight scenes, cool cars. I would love for this director to come back and do more. Exit Wounds, Romeo Must Die, Cradle 2 the Grave were fun.

1. When Aaliyah said, "If a girl's kicking your ass you don't have to be a gentleman", I felt that in my soul 😅.
But yeah, the reason Jet Li did Kiss Of The Dragon is because his fans told him he could do better than Romeo Must Die.
Also, RIP Aaliyah and DMX
That's wild cause kiss of the dragon isnt even better
The fights are better
Damn, all of Jet Ali’s costars are dying.
@@onifrancis1566Um, You're wrong about that. Both movies are good, but Kiss of the Dragon is just better. Saying they're bad movies means you don't know what you're talking about.
Funny because Jet Li did go on to make Cradle 2 The Grave 3 years later, which is pretty much a spiritual sequel to Romeo Must Die. It's got the same team, some of the same actors and even has the same Ring of Fire fight scene at the end. Lol
My favorite line: “Some you win, and dim sum you lose”. I still walk around chanting “Diiim Sum”.
Its Maurice,😂
That bowl cut had been in their family for generations. The ultimate disrespect was after they killed Jet Li's little brother, they gave him a center part.
'The One' with Jet Li and Jason Statham is perhaps worth a revisit - and I'm not saying whether it's good or bad, just worth a discussion.
I actually like the concept and story to “The One”. The issue for me is the movie rushes to quickly. I personally think it had potential had it took its story more seriously and allow its characters and world to build, it would have been received much better. A guilty pleasure of mines. I saw it in theaters.

Jet Li had way more charisma in Lethal Weapon 4 b/c it was mostly a Chinese-speaking and silent role (only one English line). There's still an audio recording of a 1998 crowd's reaction to the fight scene in Murtaugh's house, and the atmosphere was electric.

I actually believe in their chemistry. The best romances are the ones that are built on friendship.
Yea feels more natural
I didn’t buy them as a romance at ALL. I just saw them as friends.
@@hothotheat3000 That is my point. Romance without friendship is just sex. Their story isn't over, just the movie. After they stop worrying about getting killed, they would hang out and get to know each other better.
I don't think I've ever seen a black girl with an Asian guy tbh.
@@randomanton True, though back then, they didn't let them kiss sometimes. Remember watching The Replacement Killers with Chow Yun Fat, though with a white woman and I thought how weird it was that they didn't kiss because if it was Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise, they would have kissed. Though I like when movies don't push romance, I don't like it when it isn't equal.
I never found Jet-li's character creepy nor a stalker
I remember being excited this was Jet Li’s first time leading a Hollywood movie. And Aaliyah’s first time in any movie and she was so beautiful. The fight scenes was so-so, I don’t think they really fully figured out how to use HK-style action in Hollywood outside of the Matrix franchise at that time
I didn't even know who Aaliyah was when I saw this movie and the football game/fight was HOOKIE then and now.
The solution is to just let the Hong Kong crew do their thing and give them lots of time. That's what The Matrix & Kill Bill did.
Plus Jet Li's first english speaking role
When she had the leather jacket on with the red dress😍
Queen of The Damned was THE Aaliyah film!
I left the theater convinced that this wasn't based on Romeo & Juliet at all. They weren't even boning
So true
Jet Li cared about Aaliyah outside of RMD. It's been said that her aura is what captivated him, DMX, Dame Dash, Jay-Z, and TImbaland and I believe it. I still wonder to this day what would've been for Aaliyah in the future. Rest In Paradise, Aaliyah

My biggest problem with Romeo Must Die is it made me not want to go see Kiss of the Dragon, in 2001. KOTD is one of the best martial arts movies put to film, and I hate that I didn’t see it on the big screen. At least I knew enough to not miss out on Unleashed, Fearless or the Forbidden Kingdom. Those are all amazing.
I was lucky enough to see KOD in theaters. Went with my family. Was def worth it!
I love Kiss of the Dragon. I still have the DVD too. ❤
Thank all of You over at Double Toasted! I've had fun with the goofiness of Romeo Must Die over the years! It's silly and campy and just meant to have fun. It's over the top in every way they could think of. I hope everyone had a great time on set!

as a kid, i was so hyped for jet li to make an american movie. from the first time i saw it, i knew something wasn't right about it. to this day, _kiss of the dragon_ is the only english-speaking jet li movie that i like all the way through
True. But kiss of the dragon 🐉 is a French movie.
I remember seeing this movie when I was young and I really liked it. I would not qualify this movie as a "bad" movie.
Also one of the few movies that showcase a interracial relationship between an Asian man and black woman front and center which is not very common in movies even today.
As an Asian I can confirm, when there's a strong breeze we can float through the air.
I remember this movie having the coolest trailer ever, never actually saw it though.

I think most have accepted that fact lol.
So all black folk have to like every damn hood movie? If it's good its good and if it's bad it's ok to laugh at it. I'm black too and don't like all these damn low quality movies just because we're supposed to.
It’s a bad movie roast they already established they like bad movies
This a child hood classic for me so I’m always going to have on my nostalgic glasses but reviewing this as an adult this definitely isn’t a good movie it’s enjoyable, entertaining.
They’re low quality lol
Okay this will sound like a thesis. This isn't a great movie by any stretch but was very enjoyable. The film had many things going for it:
- Aaliyah and Jet Li are both very likable actors and had great chemistry. It's a minor touch but I like how Jet Li was shorter than Aaliyah. Goes against what we usually see in movie couples. I think part of Jet Li's charm is that he isn't built like a leading man, so he's like an underdog in a way.
- Anthony Anderson was funny to me, sorry. "Sometimes you win. And dim sum you lose" 🤣
- Jet Li calling Anthony Anderson meatball was also funny.
- Fight choreography was unrealistic sure, but a lot of fun, to me.
- I like how we see Asian and black gangs interact with each other. Something we don't see too often so it was refreshing.
- And this film was also self-aware. It knows what it is and pulls no punches (no pun intended).
Also, it's not fair to compare Jackie Chan to Jet Li. Jet Li is known more for his fighting style, and as a martial artist, while Jackie Chan, albeit also a good fighter, relies on creativity and stunts. Both are awesome btw
That "mortal kombat fatality" xray thing was before mortal kombat started to do it.
While I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s horrible movie since it’s a childhood favorite of mine watching it on VHS, I will say after watching this roast live, I was laughing my ass off from the unintentionally hilarious moments especially the Matrix esque flying attack from Jet Li on the goons at 16:53!
