Don't forget, Aaliyah actually filmed some scenes for the 2 Matrix sequel movies before she died. She was replaced by Marvin Gayes's daughter, Nona. Aaliyah was on her way to greatness. Approaching her prime in singing and acting. Broke my heart when she passed.

  • @dougdeveloper8850

Okay this will sound like a thesis. This isn't a great movie by any stretch but was very enjoyable. The film had many things going for it:
    - Aaliyah and Jet Li are both very likable actors and had great chemistry. It's a minor touch but I like how Jet Li was shorter than Aaliyah. Goes against what we usually see in movie couples. I think part of Jet Li's charm is that he isn't built like a leading man, so he's like an underdog in a way.
    - Anthony Anderson was funny to me, sorry. "Sometimes you win. And dim sum you lose" 🤣
    - Jet Li calling Anthony Anderson meatball was also funny.
    - Fight choreography was unrealistic sure, but a lot of fun, to me.
    - I like how we see Asian and black gangs interact with each other. Something we don't see too often so it was refreshing.
    - And this film was also self-aware. It knows what it is and pulls no punches (no pun intended).
Also, it's not fair to compare Jackie Chan to Jet Li. Jet Li is known more for his fighting style, and as a martial artist, while Jackie Chan, albeit also a good fighter, relies on creativity and stunts. Both are awesome btw

Romeo Must Die was one of the movies that I have watched before in my childhood. I never knew that it was considered as a bad movie, when I looked at the ratings, and I was like "Wait, what? Why does it have a low rating? What's wrong with it?". It's really cool that this is Aaliyah's 1st movie role she has ever did, before Queen of the Damned. I was shocked when I 1st heard that she was supposed to be in 2 Matrix movies as Zee, when I saw a clip of a behind the scene on TH-cam I think but unfortunately, she passed away, and was replaced by Nona Gaye. Same with Jet Li, who was going to play Seraph, but turned down the role. I was so shocked when I saw the thumbnail of DT doing a bad movie review, and I was like " What? OMG. I didn't know they was gonna do it this soon." That was like a surprise to me. I was hoping that they would mentioned DMX on here, since he is in the movie, but unfortunately, they didn't, and that's fine.
