I absolutely adore the relationship between Shawn and Henry, it's the main reason why I love this show as much as I do. But I have to say, it's a little worrying how people here think Henry was "the best dad". Some of you clearly have not had controlling, and sometimes downright domineering, parents. Yes, he trained and raised Shawn the best he could, but that doesn't mean he didn't have near-abusive tendencies. He refused to let Shawn enjoy comics, he set expectations so high his son got sick of trying to meet them, he indoctrinated the idea that Shawn HAS to be a cop without allowing him to even dream of something else (Fireman episode), he never even told Shawn he was proud or that he LOVED him (little Shawn literally questioned this in Weekend Warriors). Speaking as someone who's had a similar upbringing, I can guarantee you that Shawn was downright suffocating before making the very brave decision to leave home. Obviously, Henry loves his son, there's no doubt about it. But Henry was NOT the ideal parent, far from it. And clearly, he is aware of the mistakes he made, it shows through him trying to re-bond with his son later in life, and that's why I enjoy his character.
That's why when Shawn acts out as an adult I never feel sorry for Henry. He deserves it. It's a blessing that his kid stuck around. But I like that they repaired the relationship as much as they could.
Remember a lot of Shawn’s resentment came because he thought Henry left his mom through a divorce and took everything and left his mom to quote “ pick up the pieces” but when he found out that it was his mom who left him and Henry tried repairing the marriage but his mom had a travel work opportunity Henry had to become a single father and raise a child who resented him for a conclusion shawn drew up himself. Shawn’s face in the episode they explain it was guiltily sad and regretful the way he treated his dad in high school. After that episode you can start to see a change in the way Shawn treats his dad and you can see when Henry gets shot or the yin Yang trilogy the emotion and love he has for his dad is enormous, to say near abusive is kinda dramatic because if you look into the real world there is so much worse parenting. I agree he isn’t dad of the year but he’s still a great dad
When Henry calls Shawn's math teacher, presumably to tell her to change the answers, that means the bully kid will get them wrong and Shawn will get beaten up........
Well it's part of the life lesson. Have you ever heard of the expression, "No good deed goes unpunish" This means that when you do a good deed expecting something back in return then you will eventually get punish for it. Shawn was trying to help someone cheat and he did this because he didn't want to try working things out with the bully the right way (apologizing or making it up).

I remember statements back then about how they had to replace Liam James (Little Shawn) because he had a growth spurt and had gotten a deeper voice. The filming of his last couple of episodes were awkward since he suddenly looked and sounded so much older than Little Gus and the director was trying to film both actors in different camera shots. It wasn't practical to keep doing that for every episode. It made sense to get a different actor who seemed the same age as Little Gus so that they could keep doing those types of flashbacks for a little while longer. I know that people behind the scenes monitored social media almost from the beginning of the series and fans talked about much they liked Little Shawn/Liam James, so I don't know how Steve Franks wouldn't know Liam was popular.

Shortly after Psych started there was a well-liked daytime soap actor who I found out was not renewing his contract. I thought it was common knowledge. A few weeks later I got on a message board that a few soap actors posted on and casually brought up the fact that the actor wasn't renewing his contract. All hell broke loose (for his fans) and he had to post a statement on his website that it wasn't true. One of his biggest male fans confirmed that what I said was true. Sure enough, his contract ended a couple of months later and he ended up on a popular prime-time show. He still made appearances on the daytime soap...but I digress 😉
I always thought it would have been cool if they had made an entire show with young Shawn and Gus with the plot being them solving some type of case at school or something similar. It would have been a fun twist.

Liam and Carlos were then chosen to play little Shawn and Gus for the next few years. Skylar Gisondo eventually replaced Liam James as little Shawn because Liam had a big growth spurt, which unfortunately didn't work for that character. In season 8 in the Cloudy - Remake episode little Shawn was a little baby, lol, so there were at least 5 boys cast as little Shawn in the series and 3 for Gus.
