    I use a Geiger counter.
    The GQ GMC-320 Plus Geiger Counter Nuclear Radiation Detector for about $100. I found that the early ones are radioactive, but not the later.

    I now have both, the nonradioactive version and the lower SN radioactive version. I will compare them when the storms go away. I saw a 28mm one too online. I already have a few 28mm and 24mm lenses though.

      These are beautiful lenses. These are up there with the Mamiya Sekor C 645 lenses on a Sony A7Rii. Have you ever tried Mamiya Sekor C 645 lenses? They are great because with full frame 35mm you are looking at the center of the image circle. They are made for 120 film. However, I really was impressed with the Auto Rikenon.

      @@sacardevos i dont know for this specific lens what version had thorium in it but a general hint can be slight yellowing of the glas that goes away with UV exposure

    It's the best video I've seen about this lens so far.
    Outstanding bokeh, I love those lanterns!
    Mine is the Cosinon which I believe it's the same Tomioka design with flat rear element. Both standard and MC versions, the multicoating helps a lot in sunlight to be honest, but for night scenes like this single coating should be good enough

    • @Noealz
      @Noealz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good choice! I've wanted to add a Cosinon for a while :3

    I picked up my "Auto Rikenon - 55mm f1.4" today. This is an impressive lens. It is heavy. I haven't had time to really test it much. It is very clean though. Everything moves smoothly. Plus they stuck 3 filters on it and they shipped it in an old lens case made in Japan. Did someone say it was radioactive? I tested mine with a Geiger counter and it is not radioactive. I am reading that this was made by Tomioka Optical. Could it be that earlier ones were radioactive, but the later ones not?

    • @Noealz
      @Noealz  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some are and some arent, there's alot of version of it. The rear element is the radioactive one!

    • @purpleeinstein
      @purpleeinstein 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @jmoss99 I was happy to hear that your copy is not radioactive since I am currently searching for a non-radioactive version of this fantastic, masterpiece of a lens. Would you be able to reply to me your serial # (assuming its a six digit number, the first 3 digits should be sufficient to give me at least a starting point as to when the non-radioactive versions began production). I would greatly appreciate your assistance. Have a great day!

    • @jmoss99
      @jmoss99 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would have preferred the radioactive version. That was what I thought I was getting. I have 7 radioactive lenses now and I can tell you that with vintage lenses it is NOT always ONLY the rear lens that is radioactive. Also, I would not put too much weight in the SN as they seemed to have wobbled moving from one to another. My lens is this one:

    There seems to be Auto Rikenon 55mm f1.4 lens and Auto Rikenon 50mm f1.4 lenses. Why?
    Have you compared them?

    • @Noealz
      @Noealz  ปีที่แล้ว

      Why not? There are 40mm lenses, 50mm, 55mm ,58 - its just up to what people like

    • @mosswareproaudio6328
      @mosswareproaudio6328 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have also been told by collectors that when looking for an original design one, meaning with 5 digit SNs, that 55mm are more likely to be radioactive and not 50mm version. I have been looking for a radioactive version as I already have a non-radioactive version. I know you don't concern yourself with lowly stuff like this, but I do as the lens processes the light. The light then is like paint for your art.
