    Hi, Jon! Could you make a video about playing on the upper frets of lower strings, like playing 10 - 15 frets on 5 or 6 string in the lick. I always find it very stretching and hard to keep the consistancy. I see what people do is they slowly change the left hand position. Is it how I should do it?

    • @JonBjork
      @JonBjork  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Matt!
      It’s hard to advise you without seeing you play in this instance. Check out the lesson from a couple months ago about my thoughts on correct left hand technique and see if you have any potentially bad habits.

    i only cannot do this sweep picking, i suck even when i pick it.. because sweep pickung plus pullofs and hammer ons seems imppssoble fpr me
    (except the 4th i think is possible to learn sweep picking for me)

      Try this sweep pattern, very useful and if you follow the instruction in the video I'm a 100% you'll get it with practice.

    A great lesson! I've been doing similar trill exercises for two months (30 minutes up to 2 hours a day) and I'm seeing some progress in terms of speed, but not as much as I'd like. I'm guessing that's due to my tendency to fret the string too hard with the static finger in certain areas of the neck. Any tips for relaxing the fretting hand finger that stays down?

    • @JonBjork
      @JonBjork  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Slowing down and really focusing on the sensation of pressure will help. Personally I think that spending that long on trills is a bit overkill. Try doing less but more focused practice and spend the extra time on other types of exercises for a few weeks and see if that helps.

    Maybe stupid question, but isn`t the left-hand position dependent on how you hold the guitar? Because I could never really place the thumb the way all people tell you to. When I do it, it just instantly hurts, or I have to bend my wrist which is not great either... Now I just realized that i have the guitar between my legs, not on my pulled-up thigh. When I hold it like you I have no problem taking the "correct" position with the left hand. Might be a thing to point out, because I have actually not heard anyone mentioning this detail so far. (okay classical guitarists, but they have yet another position)

    • @JonBjork
      @JonBjork  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Move the guitar into a position where you can place the left hand in the optimal way. The position I described is the best when it comes to reach, relaxation and risk of injury.

    Does that guitsr have active pickups?

    • @JonBjork
      @JonBjork  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, it's the standard Solar pickups that comes with the guitar. I believe Ola said they're medium output as well.

  • @shaanrana3075
    @shaanrana3075 ปีที่แล้ว

    hey great video, should you do this for longer than 6 minutes or keep it as such

    • @JonBjork
      @JonBjork  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!
      You could but I did it exactly like this and then spent time on other exercises instead. The value is in doing it consistently and REALLY focusing on getting the technique right as I describe in the video.

    I noticed my Legato was truly poor when I tried learning Murray’s first solo in Phantom of the Opera and Rick’s solo in Pull the Plug.
    It was so poor that I couldn’t do the legato and was half assing it by picking each note on Murray’s solo and was relying on tapping for Rick Rozz’s solo, which was making the solos far more difficult.

      Bluffing, at first it was difficult to have a clear and clean sound of either hammer on or pull off. I compare the sound from a pick note on the same pitch. I had to change my approach from pressure which bring tense hand to speed. I have work to do but my sound improved dramatically! Thanks Jon!
