What is my condition. I cut fruit and vegetables for a living. Every once and a while on the top of my hands they look like they break out and itchy. And then on the base of my hand like finger web there are small cuts that form I'm guessing because my hands are dry? And wearing gloves maybe that's why.

I live in disposable gloves…sometimes when I’m itching so bad instead of scratching I run my hands under the hottest water I can tolerate. For some reason it feels so good and relieves the itch temporarily. I use gloves when I clean, wash dishes, etc. At night I lather in moisturizer and put on gloves. This is one of the biggest challenges of my life. Thank you for making videos like this!!!xoxoxo

Naturally, I moisturizer all the time and what helps with the itch for me is Cantstan, strange I know but it really helps with the itch then I apply the moisturizer. If I don’t stay on top of it in the fall and winter I really pay dearly. It’s been a few years since I’ve had a serious flare up but I can’t let my guard down. Many years ago, when I worked as an RN, I had a terrible case of hand eczema. You told me more about it than my dermatologists ever did! The 2 things that helped me get past this problem were: getting a desk job that didn’t require gloves or frequent handwashing, and having a skin patch test that showed me the many topical allergies I had. The “dermatologist recommended” skin cream I was using contained one of these allergens, and just made the problem worse. I haven’t had an outbreak in years. And as far as the itching goes, one of the Derms I first saw told me she couldn’t diagnose me because I scratched too much and I needed to cut my nails short and return to see her. I realized then that I needed to see someone else. She had absolutely no clue!

    • @annemarie7203
      @annemarie7203 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I’ve experienced the same as a nurse due to the gloves! I had a patch test done too and I have contact allergies to rubber and propylene glycol. So I’ve been using cotton gloves before wearing actual gloves and has helped me a lot. For propylene glycol it’s mainly in soaps and shampoo so I had to pick those without it. I also noticed I’ve been having dryness from drawing up medications like hydromorphone and morphine vials and I always wear gloves now to avoid any contact with it and I noticed I no longer have dryness on my skin. I have a theory due to how strong these medications are that it may cause skin reactions

Omg literally Dr Dray nailed it. During the blistery watery bubble stage, I find not using any Vaseline or moisturiser works best, letting it dry out. My 18 year old son has been suffering from this since grade school. We have a machine shop and I never realized that the metal contact with his skin has been triggering his horrible eczema on his hands. He enjoys everything about machines and building stuff with metal. The blisters on his hands get so bad and once those are gone, the leathery dry skin cracks open. It has taken me 10+ years of struggle with this chronic condition to finally identify a routine that works for me. First, I ditched any moisturizer that doesn't have the "accepted" stamp from the National Eczema Association. Eventually, in conjunction with my topical steroid for major flare ups (Betamethasone Dipropionate), I discovered that Vanicream Moisturizing Cream works best for my hands and I apply it immediately after contact with water. I make sure that I wear gloves when washing dishes, and I only use castile soap or african black soap for washing my hands, immediately followed by the Vanicream. After several months, my hands have finally stopped blistering and my pitted nails are returning to normal. It's been a long road, but I'm so thankful to finally find what works for me and I hope that this continues to work. Eczema is tricky. Now I'm fighting nummular eczema on other parts of my body and the same approach isn't as effective. *Sigh*

I had full body eczema at birth. My eczema was so severe that it was debilatating. I lived in the New Haven area, so I had all the best dermatologists at Yale try to help me. I basically became an experiment because nothing worked. As an adult, most of my eczema subsided, and I wound up with what the doctor called phase two, which was my hands. My hands would swell up and get very deep cracks and fissures and bleed. Then the dish heroic eczema started. I got the water blisters, but also large blisters very deep in the skin which would get infected. I worked in childcare, so I had to wash my hands dozens of times each day. I had constant staph infections and was at the end of my rope. My primary care doctor had a hard time watching me suffer, and she got the idea to try treating it from the inside. I started taking Methotrexate once a week, and was completely clear within two months! My nails grew back normally too. I do have pretty severe Psoriatic and Osteoarthritis, but my skin has been clear for over ten years.

I lived with this for more than 10 years. Nothing can clear it up. I had blisters periods alternating with shedding periods. I have at least 50 pairs of different gloves (Btw I loved arthritis compression gloves. They have open tips and help for the itching.). And then I got prescribed Dupixent. IT SAVED MY LIFE ❤ No more itching and embarrassing flakes 😊

Thank you so much for this wonderful and informative video. I deal with this on occasion. This summer, i got such a bad flare. i thought i would go crazy. When it finally subsided, all of the skin on my hands peeled off. I hate going to the doctor to ask about these things because, yes, i know i have eczema and i deal with RA. I always feel like the doctor really does not listen. This is the first time i have gotten a full and helpful amount of information. Thank you!

Just to share my experience and what I did to help my hand eczema.
The first time I got it was during the summer after taking a shower. My whole hands got bumps and I lasted about 2 months with it because I did not know what was the trigger. After, it subsided by using creams after visiting a doctor, but I still had patches. I ended up noticing that every summer it would flare up and would get triggered after showering. My trigger was water, strong hand soap, and the shampoo I was using. I changed my hand soap to something less harsh and more natural and I would wear gloves when I showered (also changed my shampoo). The bumps went away fast in my second worst flare up and right now I no longer have any patches.

My triggers are detergents, soap, alcohol, acetone, frequent contact with moisture, stripping away too much moisture... basically anything that damages the skin barrier. I wear gloves when I prep meals or clean, dry my hands completely every time I get my hands wet, then immediately apply moisturizer. I tried all the cheap and expensive hand creams I could get my hands on (pun intended), but the ones that work best for me are Neutrogena Norwegian formula and Aveeno skin relief hand cream.

This year I found out what these bumps are, I've had it since my 20s. It started on my feet, then in my hands. I always thought it was some sort of fungus, but it didn't matter what I used, it never went away. I think my trigger is washing my hands and stress, I hate having dirty hands. I always was embarrassed because I thought it was fungus, but now I'm at peace with my eczema.

I had this on my fingers especially when i washed my hand too frequently. Now i learn to wear gloves when i wash dishes or apply cream immediately after washing my hand with soap. I still hate wearing gloves when i do the dishes or cook, so sometimes i skipped it but i still am careful to identify when it may be triggered from detergent or soap and the like.
I love eucerin advance cream or curel ultra healing cream. They works very well on my dry skin. Sometimes i also use jojoba oil

Dr dray I noticed that alcohol was a trigger for me. I thought it was a seasonal flare up since it would appear in the fall and Christmas time but lately I haven’t been drinking as much and realized that since I stopped I haven’t gotten flare ups. I too had a foot fungus that never seemed to go away. Coincidentally back in July or August I decided to minimize drinking coffee and switched over to Matcha tea instead, I did my research and tried to look for more authentic Japanese or better quality match and I was drinking it pretty much regularly for 2 to 3 months. When I went to get my manicure and pedicure, I started to notice my foot fungus getting better and better and I have not had foot fungus now for a little over two straight months. At first, I thought it was because I was also minimizing my consumption of sugar as I know the fungus loves to feed and consume sugar, even if it comes from Blood, but after listening to another doctor, talk about foods that you can consume to clean out your liver, the three she listed were beet juice, black coffee, and green tea and understanding that each time to cure the foot fungus they would recommend taking Lamisil, I realize that the green tea actually flushed out my liver and turn, cleaned out the toe fungus. Right now because of the fall I switched from Matcha to chai since it feels more like a holiday in a cup, but I will continue to drink Matcha tea for all the health benefits, and also the chlorophyll that you get from it.

Where have you been all my life! I started with severe eczema on my hands when I was ten, had medicated creams for it, the cotton gloves at night. Flared up when I had babies, I guess changing diapers. When I changed my body wash from Ivory soap bars it helped a lot. It flared up later in life when I was a baker and washed my had constantly. Pretty much under control now but talk about miserable!

Really helpful advice! I get this on the palms of my hands and I wasn't sure exactly what it was. I've had a flare up for the last few months (very annoying), but prior to this one I think the last time was over 20 years ago, so I'm not sure what's triggered this one. It's nearly healed, but it's taking a very long time.

You are describing exactly my experience. I had those bubbles. It kept me up and woke me up at night because it was so itchy and painful.
Surprisingly CBD cream did amazing at reducing inflammation and once I got that down I got triamcinolone acetonide prescribed which usually stop flare ups right as they begin. Now eucerine usually does the job just fine. But I always remember how I’d wake up crying and scratching and in pain. Just the worst experience. 😢

You don't need to shampoo your hair frequently. I shampoo my hair once per week. I comb my hair with a bamboo comb and then brush it with a boar bristle brush to pull the oils from the crown of my head into the length of my hair. My hair is thicker now because I don't brush or comb it every day. I keep it braided mostly. It's worth a try if shampoo is hurting your skin.
