- In Merida Mexico the housing choices are many. To buy a house or build a house? That is a question I get a lot from viewers. After you have rented a home here in Mérida for a while and have decided you want to move to Mérida you will be faced with the question of what type of property you want to live in. Lets discuss.

Amy, Tampa here. OMG what a great job on su casa. Financially, I would need to do a remodel, and live through it. But anything and everything is doable. I'm always remodeling my house, it just seems to never get completed, but that's the fun, if we have patience. I just need to get there in April, research and start planning. Thanks for the video, great job !
Keep an eye on the next few videos, all properties for sale videos. :)
Hi Amy, your channel came up in my YT feed several days ago. I’ve watched several of your videos (in no particular order). I LOVE LOVE LOVE your homes and all the information you provide. I’ve watched a few other channels about Merida/Mexico but there’s ONE thing I notice no one is talking about. Other than the hot weather no one has mentioned hurricanes. I live in FL. It appears to me the homes in Merida/Mexico are “better quality” than the U.S. 😂😂. I know you’re not in Merida full time yet but can you tell us about that (hurricanes)? Also, can I just say your giggle/laugh always makes me laugh. 😂😂Thank you for sharing your experience.
Ah the hurricanes. The streets drain poorly and it is increasing problematic. The houses being such thick concrete seems to be a good thing for the wind and rain.
Glad I get a chuckle out of you. hehe.
Beautiful house congratulations that house will be booked all year .
Boy do I hope so. :) Thank you! Abrazos.
Imagínate asume moving to Mexico 🇲🇽 only.
Congratulations!!! What a gorgeous home. Even onscreen it feels warm and welcoming. This takes courage and conviction - and you have both in spades. Keep up the great content!
Thank you Erin!! :)
Thank you for sharing your wonderful journey! Would love to hear more about the nuts and bolts of how you planned out this business and were put together these deals. My wife and I are interested in purchasing 2-3 homes as well as part of our retirement planning.
I wish I could say there was more planning than there was. I started with an end dated in mind and what I wanted then the focus happened. A lot of hard work, sometimes puffy eyes, and being open to pounce on a good property. :) Good luck to you and your wife! Are you also thinking of Mérida?
I enjoyed the photos, what a great job. Well done to you and your team.
Thank you very much. Abrazos! :)
Can’t wait to see videos of your newest home purchase in Merida!
@@paradise-h5u8n . Tomorrow at noon is the official house completed walk-through. Can’t believe it’s finally done. :-)
The Blue Cactus House looks gorgeous. Well done!
Thank you Jim! Abrazos. :)
Nice remodeled house. Lots of light. Congratulations
Thank you so much. Abrazos.
Lovely hints Amy, I plan to build a house in Mexico next year.
Nice. Where in Mexico?
@@DestinationRetirementOaxtepec is a charming small town located just 40 minutes away from Mexico City. It has nice landscapes and is relatively cheap
:))
Stunning!
Thank you! Abrazos!
I love my home here, but I’d caution anyone moving here to budget about 4x what you think you’ll need for maintenance. The hard water and harsh climate are really hard on concrete, glass, electricity, plumbing, etc. Old house, new house, doesn’t matter. We spend a lot on maintenance.
Exactly!! Since you have a home there do you think my budget is fairly spot on? I know I won't travel to the extremes I mentioned in the budget but a girl can hope.
Hey, I love watching your channel. You have such a great presence. I plan on visiting Merida in February (already have an AB&B reservation). While there, I would love to meet up (at least once) with some local expats like yourself, and I may want to look into renting options for the future. Would appreciate if you had any tips on that. Thank you for your fun and informative videos.
Hi! I will be in Mérida in February but I will be on the "family entertainment shift" with my uncle and his wife. I do suggest a fb group about Mérida. There are many to choose from. Renting longer term it is best to be here to hunt or go through sites such as Mexico International or Merida Living. I don't live in Mérida full time yet and my February visit is short. Sign up on my webpage and I might post a meetup in late Feb before I come back to the US. :) :)
@@DestinationRetirement Thank you so much for your response. Right now we're planned to be in town early to mid February, but that might change. Love your videos.
@@pluckyduk_ also make sure to visit the Merida English library. It’s right in the heart of Centro and they always have fun things happening. Excellent place to meet other people and hear about their experiences.
@@DestinationRetirement Thank you for that tip!
What is the average cost per sqft to build?
My building cost was in pesos and worked out to be about 4,000mxn per square foot.
@ Hi good morning! Wow that’s actually high. (Works out to $200 per sqft @ 20 pesos exchange).
I’m personally in charge of a huge development and sell 9 kilometers of direct beachfront land in Isla Aguada, Campeche. I must get 1-2 builders reaching out to me from Cabo, Tulum, Merida and a few other places reach out to me on a weekly basis. All are about the same prices to build per sqft. Low side $65-$95 depending on lower end to higher end finishes. Only one high end builder came at $85 - $120 per sqft. I was just trying to see if you had one lower just to give clients different options.
Casa Amy,
CONGRATULATIONS, BRAVE LADY!!!
I'm told that there are two processes that people shouldn't watch: #1, sausage being made.
#2, Congress in session.
And to those two, I submit #3, Mexicans building/repairing a building. 😱 😨
BTW, if you appreciate piano instrumentals, checkout Floyd Cramer.
Well hello Peter. Actually the craftsman were wonderful. I'd say, don't watch the clock (or calendar in this instance) for when they show up.
@@DestinationRetirement,
Casa Amy,
Probably a good thing that you didn't watch what was covered up with mortar and paint. That said, I'm truly happy for you!! 👍👍 ❤
I have been researching Merida for about a year to possibly move there. My question would be how long do you have to live there to be able to buy a house. I have 2 dogs and a cat that would come with me. Is it hard to find rentals with pets?
It is a bit harder to find rentals that allow pets but long term, and with a pet deposit, you should be okay. I bought a house in Merida without a temporary resident visa and before I lived there. As far as I know it is not a requirement.
Hi Amy. Do you have an email
I do. Please go through the website amyscasa.com
