I saw Sammy at one of the last Texas Jam Festivals in the old Astrodome back in 80s before he joined VH. He absolutely rocked it! So much energy and enthusiasm. His performance (and Triumph’s) stood out as excellent.
Thanks Dave. When i got home from work i had to learn All American. That style just resonates with me and i pick up quick. And to this day i absolutely love the first Montrose album, Ronny rocks. Anyway Thanks again my friend. Oh and btw my wife told me tonight for our 30th wedding anniversary i get to pick out a new guitar !!!! Have the day off tomorrow so heading to our local music shop with TONS of selections. Im so stoked.
I saw Sammy open for Boston in '78 I believe...I have a poster of Sammy from that show, which makes the move for Gary makes sense..Sammys Live Band on "All Night Long" live album is Montrose with Gary instead of Ronnie...
Sammy was rock solid and a great song writer. Standing Hampton is a great album but i think his hidden gem was the album he put out while he was in VH (i never said goodbye).
My favorite Sammy solo album is Standing Hampton saw him on that tour the show was fantastic that record has so many great songs Sammy just seems like one of the boys like an easy guy to hang with 👏🤘👍
Definitive...for.. me.. but who was. Playing ?? Who was singing?? I assumed it was sammy.. in .. the song heavy metal.. playing, and singing . I almost wish Sammy would have stayed..standing on his own.. and let van Halen ..fend off other singers.. we could of had the best of both worlds.. too bad cause we know what its like !!!! ??? Not van Hagar..😢... Eddie basically quit playing guitar . And grabbed the keyboards.. 😢
Red, I've Done Everything for You, Rock & Roll Weekend, Garys acting in the 55 Video is Classic...lol I'm a lifelong Sammy Fan from the 1st Time I heard Rock Candy, I also think Mike's voice was the hook in VH...
Ohhhhh man I've seen Sammy 15 times starting with the VOA tour,... he is a Class Act. There's Only One Way,..... One Way to Rock. Thanks for the great video Mr. Brewster!
Hell yeah, no one has done this before. Nice thought. Can't wait to check it out. By the way The Pantera reunion show last night kicked ass. Zak Wylde killed it. Sammy is another great singer that can also kick ass on guitar too
This is a really cool segment man. I’m actually a singer songwriter and a piano player, but it was still cool to see. I’m a huge Sammy fan! Thanks for giving a shout out to the HSAS album. Neil Shawn is obviously a great guitar player. Really enjoyed Valley of the Kings /Giza from that album.
His album Danger Zone has some great playing … Love or Money, The Iceman, and Bad Reputation … I saw him at Rocklahoma in 1980 touring off this album … he came on before Pat Bentar and Van Halen … it was incredible
@@davidmcauliffe8692 Sept 6th, 1980 … Pat Benatar, Sammy Hagar, Van Halen, and the Doobie Brothers … in Norman Oklahoma at Owens Stadium on The Oklahoma University campus … google it
Love your videos man. Been playing Bass/guitar for a bit and this series has been my favourite introduction to chords Would love to see a video on The Smashing Pumpkins
So good. I love your stuff but had the thought that many players don't know how to get specific sounds with all their doohickies. While it would certainly take time and be laborious to include in your videos covering certain guitarists, a quick overview of how you dial in sounds for the video in the description could be super helpful, I'm sure. Or, a whole new series of how important guitarists achieved their sound in the eras they brought the rock. Sounds like me and @chriss1492 were at some of the same shows in the way back. Thanks for what you do. I owe you a beer or three. Cheers.
I was wondering when you would hit some Sammy Hagar stuff ?! Sammy is very cool and just a straight up Rocker !! Thank you , Dave !! Now that you've hit his solo stuff , you might ought to hit some of the Van Halen stuff with Sammy as well , Please ?!
Sammy’s playing with Gary Pihl on the live album (‘Loud and Clear’ / ‘All Night Long’) is stunning! 🎸🎸👍
"You stand right over there, I'll be over here, we'll have us a little battle. Take your best shot!"
Sammy is the man. Class of 87 here.
A lot of people don't realize Sammy wrote and originally performed the Rick Springfield hit "I've done everything for you"

Great examples here! ‘Street Machine’ and ‘All Night Long’ were, and still are my main go-to’s when I’m in the mood to hear Sammy (and Gary Pihl).
I think it's past time you did a video on NEIL GERALDO! Underrated guitar guy...

Love Sammy ...especially with Montrose

My very first concert was Sammy Hagar “the red rocker” back in 1980 Scorpions and Pat Travers were the opening bands! Great concert !
HSAS seen them live great show

Thr songs needed: Heavy Metal, 55, One Way to Rawk...that's all I need.

Vic Johnson is highly underrated. I think he should be going out on the VH tribute tour.
Jacob Deraps
Didn't expect this, very nice

Heavy metal (on the original soundtrack for the animated movie) is an absolute banger of a tune. Really mean riff on that one.

Sammy storming the C wearing red with an axe! Seriously though, that last song reminded me of early Rush. Good stuff!

Don't think that Rocklahoma existed in the 1980s. Wonder what show you were at?

Been jamming with Sammy a long time, good jams
I love the classic era Sammy stuff but The Circle is great too! Vic Johnson has some great riffs and tone in The Circle.
Great episode, that second tune you played is just amazing! Long live to american classic rock 🎶🎸🎸 And Reckless was sick too
Love Sammy, but wasn't familiar with All American. Thit riff is crazy similar to Rock Candy.
Love your videos man. Been playing Bass/guitar for a bit and this series has been my favourite introduction to chords
Would love to see a video on The Smashing Pumpkins
Cool stuff! Glad you did a Sammy Lesson! Thanks Dave.
Very good
very cool lesson
Hey man, if you can get All Night Long it's a great Sammy Hagar live album. He plays some Montrose stuff. It's from like 78-79. Hard to find.
Bravo! Great lesson. Can you cover the solo in HSAS Animation

Hey! Yeah, there's plenty of Van Halen-related material on the channel.
Do a channel search for Van Halen and dive in!
Thanks and ROCK ON!
Please do an episode on Blue Oyster Cult and Buck Dharma.
Great stuff but what happened to There's Only One Way To Rock?
Nice video David! If I sent you a black pickguard for the tele would you use it?
I wish you would've added the song "Heavy Metal" from the film soundtrack
How about a Liitle Feat Chords of Please
Great job what about songs like privacy and swept away both rock
What about Rolling stone gitaris❤❤❤ riff
yeah
Like Sam so much better as solo artist than in VH
Same. He had a great run of albums from Street Machine to VOA.
It's actually Gary Pihl(Peel)
Hi David, Here's the obligatory algorithm boosting comment! ~ Cheers
Gary Pihl's last name is pronounced "Peel"
Sammy🤘🏻🤘🏻👍🏻👍🏻
What? No "Heavy Metal"?😮🤔😩
👍👍👍
Budgie please
gary pihl, night ranger
