I hate when people say Mya can't sit with the others, yes she can. She most definitely can. She had a slew of major hits in the late 90's from It's All About Me to Ghetto Supastar to Take Me There, to Movin On to Somebody Like Me to My First Night With You, etc. She really came into her own in the early 00's and achieved even greater success during that time span. People also have to realize Mya was on a label that didn't specalize in R&B and she was on a Rap and Rock label and still manage to be successful. She made a path for herself and carved out her own lane.
I’m so grateful for having all of these beautiful ladies being apart of my childhood, they the reason I’m a such a romantic in how to treat a woman right. My heart big because of 90s Rnb. I love RNB in other genres also . You did an awesome interview.
I still buy physical CDs for a variety of reasons, mainly because I like having a physical copy of the artwork and the liner notes, and I like having control over my music collection and not have it depend on a licensing agreement with some particular streaming service. I still use an iPod though and I just import the music to my iPod. Even when I’m listening on my iPod, I still like to read through the liner notes and enjoy the artwork when I’m listening to certain artists.
I love all 4 of them. Mya came out much later in the 90s, but I still include her because they were all around the same age. Mya is so underrated and talented. Her career should have skyrocketed. Once Beyonce came out with her solo album that was it. But Brandy ruled the 90s and Aaliyah I really truly believe would have ruled the 2000s had she not passed. (I.E MOVIES :Sparkle, Matrix and a clothing line with Kidada jones) Monica did her thing as well. These ladies are RNB GEMS 💎 from the 90’s
I'm a young person apart of this generation and I agree with what mya just said I still order cds from Amazon and I listen to 90s r&b artist there is something special about physical copy
I wish these artists knew their worth. They all should go independent. Because these Majors put them against each other. Cut out the middle man. As Mya stated, Majors hop on the bandwagon.. Then we’re wondering why it’s taking certain artists so long to put out another album. Because their (label) attention is on another artist who got more tictok views.
Not trying to be disrespectful, you can't really put Mya in the same class as the other 3 names mentioned. Her resume doesn't stack up. And it's kinda revisionist history. Anybody who was around back then knew who the "big 3" was as far as 90's princesses of R&B.
@jacobharris954 Monica actually wound up with more top 10 hits than Brandy and Aaliyah, but if you're talking album sales it goes Brandy, then Aaliyah, then Monica. Aaliyah didn't always release her biggest songs as singles which forced you to buy her albums. But yea had she not departed she would have been the biggest. I think she might rivaled Beyonce in the early 2000's for top female.
@@jacobharris954as much as I love Aaliyah…Brandy was def bigger then Aaliyah got bigger after Brandy fizzled out…Monica was always 3rd and Mya low key honorable mention though if Mya had better management she could have been bigger. I feel like between 2000-2002 Mya had a chance to really be bigger
I like Mya, she’s a sweet woman and has contributed a hit song or two and maybe three…but she’s no Brandy, Monica and DEFINITELY no Aaliyah…she was the Jessica Simpson to Britney & Christina back in the day. Still carved out her own little lane, but she wasn’t a major player. Good artist, nonetheless.

Totally agree, maybe she debuted later but her impact was also huge
Exactly

Thought I was the only one
It’s like opening up a new book. Sadly, they’re going to eventually get rid of them.
She didn’t sell her soul she was like I’m good and keep it stepping
the thumbnail is literally what my 90s playlist cover looks like😭

I hope Mya release one day a physical edition of 'Liberation' ❤
One of the brightest and most honest women in entertainment.
It's insane how her speaking voice is almost identical to Aaliyah's speaking voice. They even have the same energy... I never noticed that till now 😲
I still enjoy Mya and her music. She has talent.
Thank you for this interview. I've been riding for Mya since she came out. Humble, unapologetic, and wise.
She does great with interviews. I never knew.
I love Mya!! Definitely underrated!! I been blasting Ghetto Superstar, and Girls Dem Sugar at the gym, for the last few weeks!! Great 90’s class!!
She so beautiful and well spoken I love me some Mya her smooth jones album is 🔥
Mya #LibraGang ♎
He’s correct when it comes to the late 90’s. All these women held it down.
I'm a young person apart of this generation and I agree with what mya just said I still order cds from Amazon and I listen to 90s r&b artist there is something special about physical copy
This lady is pure gold❤
Man, I love Mya, I was really impressed at her voice not being like the boisterous voices but still killing it❤All songs are classic❤
Umm he talked wayyyy too much
Love Them All!
THAT LAST PART YOU GOTTA BELIEVE NOT JUST THE ONE GRINDING BUT ALSO THE ONE WHO LISTENS

🤔 YEAH THE GRIND TO SUCCESS IS DEFINITELY DIFFERENT THAN BACK IN THE DAY DEMO TAPES COMPARED TO VIDEOS ON PLATFORMS IS EASIER THAN BEFORE
I love Mya, and I’m a fan, but she wasn’t apart of the early 90’s not sure why they added her lol, she came out around ‘96
Aaliyah & Brandy are THE STANDARDS when it comes to this music shit! Especially Aaliyah!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing 😂 . She not in that class I get it cause she was in they era and they all was young stars
To go one step further it was aaliyah then brandy Monica then Mya with Mya competing with Monica

@@jacobharris954 now you are lying. brandy was on top. she was much more marketable and crossed markets

Love Mya but she minuscule when it comes to the other three 🤷🏽♂️she don’t belong in the group with them!
Great interview, however the Host in my opinion was talking a bit much for my taste
Monica is the only relevant artist out of all of them. Everyone else fell off

You are completely right... Or the Mandy Moore
