  • Check out this line chart race for beloved R&B and Pop sensations: Aaliyah (1979-2001), Brandy and Monica. We were graced with their presence through amazing introductions like "Back & Forth," "I Wanna Be Down" and "Just One of Dem Days" and still enjoy their many hits to this day. Let's celebrate their musical impacts on our lives by looking at their Billboard Hot R&B Singles Chart success from 1994 to 2004.
    Aaliyah Songs:
Back and Forth, At Your Best (You Are Love), Age Ain't Nothing But a Number, I Need You Tonight, If Your Girl Only Knew, Live and Die for Hip Hop, Up Jumps Da Boogie, The One I Gave My Heart To, You Won't See Me Tonight, I Don't Wanna, Try Again, Come Back in One Piece, We Need a Resolution, Rock the Boat, More Than a Woman, I Care 4 U, Miss You, Come Over
    Brandy Songs:
I Wanna Be Down, Baby, Best Friend, Brokenhearted, Sittin' Up In My Room, Missing You, The Boy Is Mine, Angel in Disguise, Have You Ever?, Almost Doesn't Count, U Don't Know Me (Like U Used To), Formal Invite, What About Us?, Full Moon, He Is, Talk About Our Love, Who Is She 2 U
    Monica Songs:
Don't Take It Personal/Just One of Dem Days, Before You Walk Out of My Life/Like This & Like That, Why I Love You So Much/Ain't Nobody, For You I Will, The Boys Is Mine, The First Night, Angel of Mine, Street Symphony, I've Got to Have It, Just Another Girl, All Eyez on Me, So Gone, Knock Knock, U Should've Known Better
Note: Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody" was not commercially released as a single to retail stores, so it did not make it to the Billboard Hot R&B Singles Chart; however, it did chart #1 on Billboard's U.S. R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. "One in a Million," "4 Page Letter" and "Hot Like Fire" are missing from U.S. Billboard Hot R&B Singles chart but peaked at #1, #12 and #31, respectively, on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.
The Billboard Hot R&B Singles Chart's name changed to "Hot R&B Singles & Tracks" in January 1999 and changed again to "Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks" in December 1999.

i see why aaliyah's "one in a million" wasn't on the R&B charts because at that time that song was so unique and so much more experimental than any other R&B song at that time on the radio so at times radios were confused on how much they were gonna choose to play a song like that, proves just how ahead of her time aaliyah had always been.

@@ssRBHip-Hop one in a million album didn’t sale as fast as it did later on because people & radio weren’t sure to play Aaliyah or put her out because the r.Kelly thing & many radio stations made excuses as to why they couldn't play the song by saying "they couldn’t blend it in, they couldn’t mix it in with records before it or after it because the cadence hadn’t been done before but Aaliyah cousin Jomo said radio station program directors had a problem with what they called "cricket sounds" in the song. . When trying to create a solution so that "One In a Million" could get played on the radio, Atlantic Records suggested that the song be remixed and made more radio-friendly. According to Jomo, he refused to change the song and he took the tapes out the studio so that no one could remix the song. Atlantic thought we should remix the record and take the triple-beat down to make it more radio-friendly, but we were very bullheaded about it. We heard they were trying to get remixes done, so we took the tapes out the studio

Brandy is my favorite! I’m not surprised at Monica’s numbers, for one y’all acting like she had 20 #1s compared to liyah and Brandy. Come on, one or two more RADIO hits ain’t much but still congratulations to her. She should actually have more considering Clive Davis was behind her and already had solid radio relationships. I adored this time in music, you had to hustle and work your singles at radio. Today all you need is a million fans constantly streaming it to get it a hit.

Atlantic really failed Brandy's Afrodisac era. Had they promoted that and put as much money into it as they have with Cardi. Brandy would've ruled the world with that album. It's still holds up today and is a bar raising, defining moment not only in R&B but, music altogether. Still referenced by other artists who aren't even her contemporaries. And who would've thought Brandy would be able to top her last project Full Moon.

What about nowadays? Normal people(not a fan)only remember the songs not the album. For example Shania twain and Alanis morissette huge albums sales in the past. But now? people only remember a few hit songs of them.
Aaliyah has some signature songs to public(not a fan) such as ‘are you that somebody’ ‘try again’ ‘at your best’
Monica ‘Angel of mine’ ‘So gone’ ‘Before u walk’
Brandy? honestly i like her songs but she does’t have big songs as much as Aaliyah and Monica.
