  • Some vintage receivers allow you to separate the internal preamp and amp sections on the rear of the unit, allowing you to connect an external preamp or amplifier. This short video shows you how to quickly connect each component to a vintage receiver and also help you determine if it's possible to do so with your receiver.
    You can read more on this connection via my blog post: foreveranalog.net/2021/04/29/...

    kinda new/returning to the whole receiver thing. just bought a pioneer vsx 815 at thrift for $20. i'm using it to drive bookshelf speakers for use on my PC. am I to use speaker out (the twisting posts) or do i use where it says "preout". in the preout section, there's 4 connection points, Front, Surround, Surround Back, Center. Not sure if this is the same as pre-amp, or does preout mean it's already amplified and i just u se RCA style connectors instead of bare wires in the twisting connectors? or is the preout preamp that requires an external amp?

    I always thought the pre amp volume control would not be in play, only the power amps volume. Source of music goes to pre amp where bass treble etc are adjusted, then the signal goes to the power amp where the volume is controlled since it is the "power"amp

  • @ChasingTone666
    @ChasingTone666 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

    i've watched now a few vids regarding this and I seem to be wrong. I control volume from pre amp yes. the question is what about the volume control on my power amp ? is it disconnected internally when set up like this, or do I set it to zero or somewhere in between? no-one seems to mention the power amp and it's volume control.

If the volume on the Sansui will be used to increase volume, what happens to the volume control on the R8 ? is it disconnected internally or do I leave it at zero, or set to unity volume ?

    If I may ask..I have a Dynaco st70 tube amp and a preamp with one set of speakers.
    I was looking to add a vintage am/fm tuner into the mix and consider using
    a Niles box to share the one set of speakers. What is the cabling to get the
    tuner into the mix or does it just operate as a standalone and share speakers with
    the Niles switch. Got myself confused. Thks..Tim

    • @ForeverAnalog
      @ForeverAnalog  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've always just connected a stand alone tuner to the preamp so not quite sure how the Niles box would be needed in this instance. Perhaps you would be interested in an audio switcher instead? That would allow you to connect two devices to one RCA input on your preamp and switch back and forth between the two. I have a Short on my channel showing how to make that connection if so. Thanks for watching!

    When using the "Power Amp In" ports, what input setting do you choose in the front? For example, Phono 1, Phono 2, etc. I didn't see a corresponding setting for that. I have a Pioneer SA-9100 and the manual seems to only show those connections being used in multi-amplifier setups. Thank you.

    • @ForeverAnalog
      @ForeverAnalog  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you have a preamp plugged into the Power In input? I believe the Power In input on that model means you're using it as an amplifier, so you are no longer using the input settings on the SA-9100, but instead would use the input settings on the preamp that you connected into the power in input.

    I have a number of vintage ('60s and '70s) audio pieces because I like their distinctive sounds. Isn't the pre-amp primarily responsible for the coloration that makes the different units (Sansui, McIntosh, Marantz, Pioneer, etc.) sound the way they do? Let's say I wanted to boost the power of a low-wattage Harman Kardon 430 (25 wpc). How would the sound be changed if I ran it through another power amp?

    why do that to decrease a good amplifier quality with rubish chinese components that i already tried all to see if were usable for kids starting today their hi-fi systems ,i say to people without money to give me 500€ and will be more happy with it than a new compact system ,and i have bought ,4 for friends. THis incuding a amplifier, speakers ,cd player cassette deck and turntable with tuner or not or instead of a cassette deck a minidisc and the quality of sound is better and louder than any new compact system ,even the top model from some brands that cost around 600€ but no quality at all ,but to those who never had a stereo system it´s like the best they ever heard normally i would buy 70´s amplifiers mainly from pioneer because it´s a brand i know since late 60´s but today they were all bought and when one appears that used to be sold by 150€ now they ask from 200 to 300€ or more depending on the model . I myself when working in africa in early 70´s went to japan with a japanese i met there and i bought the ES-2000 system from pioneer which releases at the max at mid volume scale 30 watts r.m.s and when returning to europe i bring it with me and still today it´s all original and works perfect ,only cleaned it once in early 80´s and use some deoxit for the knobs ,it´s better finished than any component from the 74 catalog ,this including a set of speakers a receiver and a turntable ,but all looking today much better and bigger than the components sold at the time with matrix 4 that with a extra pair of speakers ,somecelestion ditton series from 1970 and a akai reel deck from 1970 too ,the X-165D ,still today with onlty ferric tapes it works better than most of the cassette decks known ,i have others from pioneer and the 70´s ,even from late 60´s that are restored and working like new ,this es-2000 system ,i never done anything to it and it´s my system for the t.v. room,this to know how many years it will work since i bought it in 1974 in japan having a heavy but good power transformer from 100 volts to 220 volts ,in the back says 50hz/60hz so it works perfect and with some of those 1990 speakers from pioneer that says it as 190watts (DIN)with the ,loudness on it makes the woofer vibrate and no newer model with real 70 watts at 8 ohms r.m.s. makes it vibrate like the pioneers reference integrated amplifiers ,the A-616mkII or the A-656 MKII also ,they were given to me by a dutch friend who lives 50 kms from my town in the countryside wich is sunny all year around ,it rains but the maximum two days in the fall and more two days in early winter, the reason why some friends from the netherlands and germany came to live near me because of the weather they were sick of seeing grey sky´s most of their lifes in their countries, now interior south of Portugal ,Banana´s republic or juda´s ass like i always called it, also when coming to live near me they brought all their hi-fi systems and gave them to me this working perfect , i have now a SX-838 ,sx-1050 ,sx-750 and a SX-1980 bought in N.Y. by a uncle of mine,also have a rondo system(78) who have a receiver ,turntable and speakers having better finishings than current at the time components in the catalog

      @@monsterleather9621 well ,i think i´m going to try to blend some old tube amplifiers and a 90´s toaster might get a Mcintosh pre-amp . In reality with the problems i had with over heating amplifiers and not that good pre-amplifier i went out of using mcintosh ,also it helped they releasing a fantastic christams tree in blue ,i do prefer one colour christmas trees but in components i don´t like much lights so it helped but there are better brands and better in quality, the same happened in the 80´s with Carver own brand after having some incredible good ampli9fiers ,in the back saying built by Carver i tried it but also over heating maybe they live in a very cold region and in sunny country´s temperatures are too high to avoid them burning ,. i used to open them and buy fans in the smaller size directelly pointed to the amplification system ,this while living in Africa ,the excessive humidity felt 30 degrees celsius feel like 45 degrees with dry air, but they didn´t burn in Africa but in Europe, but (i tend to use too many buts ,it´s like an adiction ,i like big buts like sir mix-a-lot, but as i said mcintosh did sound a lot powerfull in the 70´s with clear and clean sound till they burn, still using a tube amp that survived it belonged to my father that passed away recentelly because they kill him in the hospital allthough he had already 98 years old

    When using vintage reciever as power amp, what source setting does it need to be on?

      It shouldn't matter which source setting as the preamp will now be the device selecting sources
