      I tried this for my dog today! Really worked. I didnt have the essential oils, so I just added rosemary and basil leaves to hot water and let them step overnite.
      Sprayed my dog this morning and et voila! It worked like a charm! No more sand flies while walking him this morning. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts..Maxx and Vasu

    Ingredients:
    4 cups raw apple cider vinegar (where to buy raw apple cider vinegar) OR make your own vinegar
    20 drops rosemary essential oil (where to buy my favorite essential oils)
    20 drops basil essential oil
    20 drops peppermint essential oil
    2 tablespoons liquid oil (olive oil, canola oil, or mineral oil will work)
    1 tablespoon dish soap (Like this one)

    Ok I made a batch and I tested it and it did remarkably well. My son and I rode through a flooded river bottom and frankly, I would use it on my self. I did, however, add five drops of citronella you also need to keep it shook while applying. Yes the results were fast acting.

    To keep fly's away from your horses an cattle...If you can find , have or live near a crab-apple tree, also known as horse apples /Osage-orange The fruit from the tree is non toxic to animals as it is naturally decomposing it gives off a fragrance that repels flying insects. Toss a few in an around the barn an stable an you will be fly free.

    Something I saw in a video a long time ago .... this guy kept chickens on his cattle farm, and he would throw the chicken feed on the manure ... sounds gross, but the chicken would eat maggots along with their chicken feed. Apparently it helped reduce fly numbers by a lot

    Yes we used a version of fly spray just like this during my 4 H Leader days when we were taking our horses to shows. All our friends in the Horse club loved it. We added a natural bath oil. Avon had skin so soft, just a few tsps was enough as well as the herbal essentials It was wonderful

      Can you apply it near the eyes or does it sting their eyes? I’m about to do this and the eyes are one of the areas the flies seem to congregate…

    • @elftails
      @elftails 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@hopeisorange Definitely not on the eyes or anywhere AROUND the eyes since it could mix with their sweat and run into their eyes. Unfortunately most essential oils can irritate and burn the eyes. Some can even blind the eyes like clove oil.

    Please answer the questions folks have asked. Especially regarding usage on the face!! I want to share this but it’s not addressing the most problematic area. HOW do YOU treat the facial area since the annoying flies often congregate in the poor animal’s eyes. Is it ok to use a cloth gently around that area?? Does this help fight eye flies??

    I was watching "Global 3000", great show on PBS, and one segment with Swiss Cows showed their faces and under bellies covered with flies -- made me squirm and feel awful for the cows -- I wondered about 'face nets' for them, which I think would work; meantime this herbal spray is a great workaround which I will be forwarding to the Swiss farmers.
