DO YOU HAVE A WACKY MEDICAL QUESTION or always wondered "why does my body do that?" Comment below to let me know, I'd love to make some more videos like this - it was really fun to make this one!!
My fingers twitch
Why does my jaw click or crack when I eat? And why does that hurt sometimes in my ear.
I have scoliosis but my back doesn’t hurt but my shoulder hearts me a lot for 3 years or more the pain goes and come back do u know some reasons why
Sometimes when I’m not doing anything, my biceps start to just “bounce” 😂 usually when I’m not exercising though
@@lentheschutten7949 ME TOO
funny thing is, I can actually feel when my joints are ready to crack, and I can sometimes sense how big the crack is going to be
same here, its almost like a block forms between the joints, limiting their movement.
@@timothygooding9544 damn you masterfully described that
This is the more interesting part of the process to me. Like... okay, so if this is the whole story, why can't you crack your knuckles *indefinitely* by creating negative pressure, generating and collapsing a cavitation bubble? Also, if this is the case, and there's no precursor event, why does every knuckle cracker know when they can crack their knuckles?
@@ANunes06 I feel like friction holds some semblance of answer here. Suppose we will require technology advancements in order to better understand. This liquid between joints more than likely has unique properties we have yet to fully realize.
Literally everyone can feel when you are ready to crack some
Finally a video to show my parents for all the times they told me I’m going to get arthritis from one knuckle crack, thanks Siobhan!😂
Happy to help!! haha 😋
Yes!! My parents would always tell me not to do it because it would cause arthritis and make my knuckles bigger. 30 years of cracking my knuckles (I’m 39) and no arthritis and my knuckles are still normal size hahahaha BUT I can say I don’t have a super tight grip. If that’s from genetics or years of cracking that contributed to it is still to be known lol
@@Theteaspot5 my parents told me the same thing.
@Mary Loves God Really? Do you even read comments or watch videos before posting? Do you boo, but quit with the blanket statements. Helps no one. And, I'm pretty sure she has more medical knowledge, so I will trust her judgement. Hope you have a good day.
I didn’t even think about this!!
I cracked my knuckles before watching this in case she said it was bad for you and I had to stop.
Just did that😂

I did the exact same 😂😂😂😂😂
Gald I'm not the only one!! 😳😅🤦♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
u inspired me to crack mine 😭🤚🏾
The doctor who only cracked his his knuckles on one hand is a madman. Once I crack a single finger I can’t stop until I crack every single joint in my body is cracked.
Hilarious because I'm exactly the same
I hate it when you crack every joint except for that one that just won't crack
Thank you holy youtube algorithm never would have searched this topic.
I did search this so your racist and saying we are not equal like I’m your slave or sum….
That guy cracked his knuckles only twice a day. That's the most impressive thing here
if I'm not mistaken, he got nobel prize for it. Not that nobel prize, the other one, ig nobel
You can't?
Don't worry, I cracked my back in celebration
Well i can crack them once every hour or 2
I can crack every 3 minutes
Right after this video, i crack my knuckles as the sign of celebration

Ty, perks of reading comments during the first 3 seconds of the video.

This answer brings another question: What does it mean if someone can crack his knuckles and someone can't? Does it mean any difference in joint health or strength? Thanks for the video!
Oohhh good question. I'd like to know the answer too.
As a 40 year knuckle cracker and diver, I can honestly say it doesn't cause arthritis but I can say that nitrogen builds up in the body, the joints you normally crack get stiff and sore, sometimes for days depending on your dive depth, ascent rate, and temperature.
My old man used to tell me all the time "you keep that up you'll have arthritis by the time you're 20". I started cracking my knuckles when I was in the 3rd grade and I'm 47 now. My hands are just fine and I'm still cracking my knuckles. And my dad is still giving me a hard time about it. Which is just fine with me.
47 and your dad still gets on you about it. I'm surprised there's been no realization that you've reached this age, and almost guaranteed you would have arthritis by now lol
@@KitsuneFyora I'm 47, he's 87. I'm just glad he's still around to hassle me about stuff. Cracking my knuckles, my tattoos, my "funny looking clothes"...it doesn't matter. I'm enjoying it while I still can.
@@MrHarris73 Yeah, you're right. As someone who doesn't have parents anymore, I forgot that there are people who still enjoy their company. Glad your dad is still around.
The only thing thats caused me arthritis are my jobs.
me too i have gout now
When cracking your fingers, toes, shoulders, elbows, back, or neck, the sense of relief is achieved when that tension is released. The joint feels relaxed again, which helps to alleviate stress in the body.👍
What about the jaw?
@@denelson83 That's not always good. cracking a jaw can actually be grinding down the cartilage. I have TMJ and Trigeminal Neuralgia and I've popped my jaw unintentionally several times followed by a crunching sound which is the cartilage being destroyed/damaged.
Which is why chiropractors make money!

I pop my fingers, my wrist, my neck, my back, my toes, my ankle, my jaw and my knees. Basically my whole body pops somewhere. The knee is probably the only one that's kinda annoying to me, mostly because of the awkwardness of doing it in public, by having to swing my leg up and down.
I thought i was the only person who could crack my jaw! Yooooooo

Im learning way more on what i find in my recommended than school
School is a scam nowadays, doesn't matter if it's grade school, college/university or trade school. The way schools teach students as well as the subjects and information they focus on have been outdated for the demands of modern society for decades, wheras online sites like TH-cam can keep up with the changing demands and needs of a rapidly evolving society.
I love how enthusiastic you get explaining 🙂 you'll be an amazing teacher in the medical field I can imagine all the doctors that'll come out saying you was the best teacher they ever had ❤
Hi! Classical musician with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome here, a condition that affects joints and often makes patients like me crackle a LOT, in joints all over the body, without trying to! I get told it's rude for me to crack my joints in public, when due to my condition, I'm actually in a lot of pain if I DON'T crack them. People try to explain to me all the time, "Oh, that's so bad for you!" and I keep having to tell them, "No, it's not! The science says it doesn't do any damage, and I'm in pain that gets relieved (to an extent) when this joint pops!" So thanks for making this video - I'll be linking it next time anyone tries to tell me what they think I should and shouldn't be doing with my chronically ill body!
Amen Sister!!!!
Also have EDS and I felt this! ❤️
Not that i'm in pain, but sometimes cracking things actually makes me more flexible, when i'm playing guitar and i crack my fingers and my wrists it goes much more fluent than when i didn't, keep cracking em up :D
I've been trying to tell my dad that it's no problem, and I've been telling him before I knew what I was really doing, now I can tell him it's been a study for half a century, thank you.

You know, I always heard that "cracking your knuckles causes arthritis" was an old wives tale. I remember my friend's mom making my friend think it was true and trying to lecture me over it. Then I looked it up and it seemed like it was mostly considered a myth (this was like 20 years ago.) Glad to hear more confirmation of this since I like to crack mine, lol.
If I remember correctly their is a psychological effect were if you enough people say something you believe it is true which is why I think so many people say it's true.
My mom said I would get "monkey knuckles". It just annoyed her, and I kept doing it anyway lol
I have finger arthritis now because of cracking, lol. This is my biggest mistake and insecurity ever.
Someone made that up because it’s so annoying!

I agree too, she helps us learn. I’m not planning on going to med school, but I’m still trying to learn from her even though I’m not planning on going.
As a lifelong knuckle cracker, this was interesting. I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether or not chiropractic adjustments actually help you.
mmmmm great question! Something I would need to look more into, and I'd definitely be interested in doing that! Thanks for the suggestion
I tend to believe they do based on my own personal experience after dislocating my left shoulder. 30 days after the incident, it constantly felt like someone punched my arm and I was unable to extend it past the midpoint. Was scheduled for lengthy PT, but decided to talk with a chiropractor who moved the humerus back up (almost passed out) and regained full range of motion within 10 days.
All depends on the chiropractor. Gonstead chiropractors tend to be the best though. Like any profession there's a large number of mediocre people, a few really good ones, and then a bunch of bad ones as well. However we tend to pay most attention to the really bad ones and make a judgment based on those ones, even more so if you are biased against it. Dr. Ian and Dr. Rahim are two incredible Gonstead Chiros worth checking out. A few of the biggest distinguishing factors between good and bad practioners is methodology, as well as the understanding of basic principles and foundations (which can really translate to any profession).
@@seattlesix sounds like a sublux. Not surprised a chiro fixed it. I had 2 dislocations. On my second one after I woke up from the drugs, I knew it was still out, told the doctors and they stood there and laughed at me and told me it was the drugs talking, sent me for another X-Ray and when they got it back they realized how wrong they were (which probably hurts as a doctor, especially when your patient is drugged up). Also to add to their pain, that dislocation wasn't even bad and shoulder reductions are quite simple.

There's something addicting about cracking your knuckles, once you do it once, you can't just not do it ever again. Maybe that psychological effect would be a fun thing to research.
Greatly appreciate the nuanced explanation about how science is a process in this video! Some people see two conflicting theories and think A is newer so B is wrong and dumb, when in reality the work of one often *leads* to another, and sometimes we come back to old theories when the data suggests.
Science isn't a fight, it's everybody trying to figure out the answer together.
My parents and I always have this argument over cracking knuckles, and my dad and I had this conversation once again tonight and I told him, we'll find out when I watch this video XD
This is kinda scary. Yesterday a Dutch vlogger was discussing whether it was bad or not. They came to the conclusion it wasn’t bad, but it’s always better to not do it. Now hearing it from an actual doctor I do feel better about my “habit” of cracking my knuckles.
I love your videos they give me something new to learn every time you post

I crack every joint on each finger by bending it to the side and crack them again my pressing down on them then open my finger straight out and my a fist slowly while stiffening them to crack again like three to four times a day for the past 16 years. I always thought something was wrong, now I can rest easy after seeing your video. Thank you.
I love how a few years of schooling makes someone think they know the 'science' behind everything in medicine, and even how that process works. Most physicians I knew growing up said it was bad for you, but I also learned as I got older that half of all doctors finished in the bottom half of their class.
Not only do I crack my knuckles, I also love cracking my neck! So satisfying! :)
no no no you shouldnt do that ;-; it has a risk to kill you :/

To be honest, I gave up hope long ago, and now I crack my entire body like a Scaly monster, but I'm also glad this bluff worked out at the end
I love your energy and enthusiasm! Keep up the great work!
For me personally, I HAVE to crack my knuckles, neck, toes, etc because they cause pain and even cause their corresponding body parts to lock up and not move. I even have some days where my neck down to my fingers locks up and it can only be relieved by cracking a certain finger on the hand that is affected. A good question that I've never come across an answer for is, "Are there things that can cause a building up of gases, or other things, in the joints that make them need to be cracked?" I know that may seem odd.. But I swear a short while after drinking a carbonated soda, I seem to need to crack things more frequently..
Thanks for an awesome video!
I once worked at a company that held an annual Useless Talent Show, where people would show off the crazy things they could do. One woman's talent was being able to crack every joint in her body, including her spine. You should have seen the looks of horror on the people in the audience as she demonstrated this.
An annual useless talent show sounds great fun though
How about clicking other joins? such as like muscular thuds in shoulder, grating with the shoulder blade, knees etc?
Seconding this -- my whole body makes a load of concerning noises.
See, you're asking the real questions.
It would be interesting if you could do a video on Reynaud’s Disease. I have suffered with this most of my life and haven’t had much medical support. Docs say I just have to live with it. My city doesn’t have a Rheumatologist and my doctor doesn’t think it would be beneficial to see one.
I crack my knuckles, back, neck, toes, and even the arches of my feet! I used to be able to crack each side of my jaw, several times per day, but now I can only do it on rare occasions.
My sister can crack her hips! It looks so funny when she does it, as she will jerk her knee upwards and towards the opposite side of her body, but it makes a really, really loud and deep cracking/popping noise! I've never been able to do that one "on command," but, like my knees, my hip joints will occasionally crack on their own, when I least expect them to! My sis and I used to have contests on who could pop the most joints!
Best news I've gotten since the start of Covid-19
I would love for you to go farther into this. For myself and my father we have this thing where everything cracks. When we walk around our knees or toes or whatever crack all the time simply walking around. If I get a big, arms over my head, stretch things like my sternum will crack or my collar bones crack at my shoulders. We can never sneak around lol. My wife always laughs at me cause she says she always knows when we are coming. I wonder what something like this says about a person or their long term health or if it is something that can be treated or simply a weird quirk. Love your videos I would LOVE to know more about this sort of thing.
This was so interesting! Thank you!!
yeah joints make a lot of sounds
