    2 kinds of riders, ones that have dropped their bike and ones that will. Just like sailors, ones that have been seasick and ones that will. If you do it long enough, it will happen.

    It was not your gloves fault. Your front wheel slid out when you turned. The front wheel began pushing gravel instead of rolling over it. You should have stopped and made the turn in a vertical position with your feet on the ground. Yah I have been there too. Safe riding

      The more I think about what you are saying here- the more I think that’s exactly what happened. The front wheel hit the soft, piled and pushed gravel, and slid out when I leaned. Ugh! This is really what happened! There may have been some other very minor contributing factors but I’m pretty sure that you’ve solved my mystery 👏👏👏

    Agree that the gloves were probably a contributing factor. I felt the same way last week when I moved from my regular leather gloves to my insulated gloves and noticed less confident control. In fact the next time I rode I went back to the other gloves for that reason.
    I've had my 23 Lowrider S for a year and a half and have yet to get crash bars because I haven't found one that did what I wanted. I'd like to be able to put my feet up on the bars while highway riding but don't know if my feet would reach the bar.

      @@dgross2009 thank you! I really do feel like the gloves had something to do with it. Like, this whole thing really shocked me when it happened.
      Stay tuned, I’ve got some front and rear crash bars being delivered today from OG Moto. I’m 5’10 1/2” tall with a 30 inch inseam. I’ll be testing out the “highway peg” functionality of these. I’ve heard that getting your feet up on the front crash bars can be a little cumbersome with the stock breather. Fingers crossed brother! Thanks for your comment sir 😎🏍️🏍️

    I'm in VA also (Charlottesville). Loose gravel u-turns are always tricky even on a dual sport. Robert Simmons (Be the boss of your motorcycle) has a great video on doing it carefully. Unfamiliar gloves can definitely make things a lot more difficult than they normally should be.

    Soft dirt and loose gravel ...... recipe for disaster! I've been riding for 51 years and on a road bike I avoid the dirt tracks. On an off road bike you expect the dirt trails to have you off now and again but pleased you got away with no injuries and minimal damage to your bike! And besides ..... a scratch here and there adds character to your ride! 👍

    Currently nursing my own hurt pride. I was sick for a month and missed my window to ride my bike to the dealership for storage. Scheduled a pick up with the local HD dealership and on the day that they came to pick it up it happened to be snowing. Tried to do a slow U-turn to position the bike for loading onto the trailer and the back tire slipped out from under me. Only damage was a scratch on my mirror and the tip of the break lever, thank god. Should have just pushed the bike but I got complacent and overconfident.

    Yes I agree, you were not in the friction zone. RPM was not loaded enough to have sufficient power. Need to have clutch, rpm and rear brake skills. Not trying to say I am better, just trying to help out. No matter what road you are on. I also noticed just hearing your RPM when stopping you are a front braking. No friction zone on the clutch, no rpm loaded and keep it loaded and braking with your rear brake to be smooth on stopping. Keep it on the 2 wheels!

    Not the gloves, your technique needs some modification. When you make a turn you need to have the rpm's about 1800 and continuous drive on the back wheel.. You lean the bike over to the point that the kickstand drags the ground. th-cam.com/video/rHc2l-CQTK0/w-d-xo.html

      @@revfree As I said in the first vid… I’ve been riding 30 years and have a 24 RG. I would never have attempted that slow turn on that gravel… soft dirt… sand… it’s all the same IMO. Not worth it. I agree about the power to the rear wheel… it’s a must. I slow speed maneuver all the time and it’s all about keeping power to the rear wheel while in the friction zone. Leaning in that soft dirt? As said I wouldn’t have attempted it. If I had I’d probably have made the turn with my feet down due to the shitty road. Been down once… in 1993 when I first started riding on the street.

    • @revfree
      @revfree  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@TravisPNW I agree - best is to stay the heck out of gravel and dirt if you can. And for crap roads, hard leans can spell disaster. I feel like friction zone and light pressure on the rear brake is the best bet if you absolutely can’t avoid having to maneuver in bad terrain. Feet down probably not a bad idea like you suggested as long as you’re creepy crawling uber slow 😬

      Meh, when I see loose gravel, mud, I walk it around in the friction zone with the assumption that it's gonna slip or slide if I go any faster.
      And yes - no front brake unless handlebars are facing straight ahead.
