One of the best vocalist of this century. One trait that sets Ustad Salamat ali khan apart from rest of his contemporaries is the quality of " Laykari". He was a master of rhythm. He use to sing in the most difficult rhythmic cycles.

Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, the unrivaled and untouchable king of sur. The don hailing from Sham Chaurasi exhibits only an atoms worth of magic from his closet, Rab khair karey, imagine what would happen if he ever decided to unleash a bit more...Every sur he touches in this piece and the manner in which he does so is worthy of occupying a throne of its own in the kingdoms of music...

    Kya baat hai. Wah. Bohatkhoob!
Salamat Ali Khan saheb was a treasure that few Pakistanis appreciated.
Now Shafqat Ali Khan is following in his footsteps. He is another shining start in the making. I pray that he will have more admirers who are actually able to come forward to support him.

Matchless singer in this era. All the singers need to sing in search of beat but beat need to search Ustad Salamat Ali khan sb . I listened him many times and met him a great human a great performer and perfectionist and for me a greatest singer of this era. i have never listened so pure and so sweet voice in my life.He has sung almost 50 kafis this is one of those a master piece fabulous .

Kyaa Baat Hai! Ustad Salamat Ali Khan is spectacular and I must say Ustad Miyan Shaukat Hussain Khan is phenomenal. He keeps the serenity by playing theka very simple, then he politely and appropriately interjects his Laagis without drowning the creativity of Ustad Salamat Ji. Kyaa Baat!

Saanwal (means one with a brownish, fair complexion: a term of endearment -- typically for a Baluch man, having come down from highlands, and going back with his "daachi" -- she-camel); mor muhaaraan (trurn back the reins); tati (in scorching heat) ro, ro (crying, crying) waat guzaaran (I see the pathway longingly). The woman (in the plains) singing out to her beloved Baluch: O my fair (handsome) one, [do not leave] yet; turn back the reins [of your camel]. Can't really be translated :)

I congratulate that artist, who expresses himself with sincerity, and sincerity does not have to be in question, if the musician uses techinicalities. It is about the beauty that is presented through the emphasis in the sound. An artist has a license which allows him to define and emphasize his thoughts through whatever technicalities he may be able to express the thought through.

AMAZING!!! Kyabaat. You don't here this gayaki and depth anymore and also more so - the audience appreciation has been diluted too. They'd miss all the intricate melodic embellishments altogether. Thanks - msab73

It is the music that is truly living and never dies, and is most beautiful. Artists come and go, it is the art that lives on forever. I love all these artists you have mentioned too, but it is the music that has made them gold. Again we are no one to put anyone in seats, lets just love anyone who feels the depth of the ocean of raag sangeet, they are all worth it.

brother again you continue to talk about seats, who are we to put anyone in seats. Music to me is about sincerity, art to me is about sincerity. Unfortunately we cannot be the judge of such a thing, it is only he who is the knower of all hearts that can be the judge of such a thing. All we can see is the love put fourth by an artist to understand even .000000000001% of what this music means. I have love for even a child who trys to sing in taal and sur.

antariks, gulam ali used to be a frequent fixture of the audience of PTV. incidentally ustad salamat ali considered gulam ali to be a lowly beginner in the field of music so only reluctantly allowed him to sing in his presence.there is one reported incidence when chhote gulam ali khan saheb requested ustad salamat ali to let his namesake gulam ali to sing in a mehfil.

My freind you can be as techincal as you want, you can take it to the core where all music just become is mathematics. That is what musicologists are so great at, breaking a piece down to where theres nothing left in it, they completely strip the soul out of the music.

He had a more full voice than Ustad Abdul Karim Khan, and his paintbrush which was was his throat had more overtones. They were both beautiful though.

My freind this is Kafi which is a different form of music alltogether which has its roots in folk. Ustad salamat ali khan was a pioneer in the genre for he flowered the lines of the kafi with raag ras technique. How do you know he is'nt getting the inspiration from the words. I too have seen Salmat ali khan in better raag form. But my friend you have to understand Raaga isn't the most important aspect in Kafi singing. It is the kafi that is the most important aspect in Kafi Singing.

You dont need to bring any other masters into this, I dont see the masters you mentioned with a very different eye then I see ustad Salmat ali khan, You dont need to inform me of their genius. Ustad salamat ali khan is comparable to all the classical greats, they all have their own andaz, and we can sit here and argue which is better but we can leave that for you or the musicologists, I just enjoy brilliant music, and moreover ustad salamat ali khans pioneering andaz.

I have heard of Ustad Abdul Karim khan, I have many records of his aswell. He was a giant, and I agree he was one of the greatest exponents of bhaavras. But what I am saying is all gayaks paint with different paintbrushes, and I justly see the beauty in all paint brushes, of mostly all the great masters. By no means was Ustad salamat ali khan's paintbrush or gayaki of any less quality that Ustad abdul Karim Khans, you can disagree all you want.
