Khan sahib was one the most blessed with his voice from all the classical singers. His bol taans were superb.there are things he was able do with his voice that only he could do because he was so blessed.I think people who listen to classical are very lucky to have some his recordings.because there will be a very long time for another Salamat to come around.
he was literally in surr from every where even the way he used to talk... i know i am no one to say anything about him ...but thats my love towards this person.. great entertainer ... he made 32 raags he named one on thames other on a forest near sussex LEGEND
Oh my God. Thank you for the privilege to see one of the greatest vocalist and musician. Well, that's my opinion, and for those who have really heard him will agree.
my Guruji Ustad Viswadeb Bhattacharya is the direct disciple of ustad Salamat Ali Khan Shaab.he is the only one from Bengal went to Pakistan and got the lesson from them for more than 40 yrs.Ustadji used to call him as Bakshi.
Supriya Sensarma aaj kal to bas aisi mausiqi bajti hai jaise bhains k aage been,.. ab toh koi aise singer milte nahi aur mil bhi jaaye to aaj k youth uska mazaaq udaate hai..
Ustad Salamat Khan is an all time favourite among the knowledgeable in India. I had seen him from close quarters when he visited Calcutta in the late eightees. Superb tumhri. Thanks for posting.
God sent such kind of souls to tune our lives with their melodious voices and sweet gestures . ustad slamat Ali khan taan ke badhshah , sur ke badshah no match . Allah ki rehmat hain aap . zindagi se lutf uthana seekha hai aap ki awaz soon kar
ustad slamat ali khan sb taan ke baadshah , taansen of this era belongs to Shamchurasi ghrana.tremendous superb singing no one can sing kafi in his style. awaz ka utar charhaao , taans , sari duniya ke singers lai ko dondh kar gatay hain lakin lai ustad salamat ali khan ko dhondti hai.
dachandman - Kafi is mostly penned by Sufi poets and are in the language that the poet lives in. Mostly sung in love or another true aspect of life it narrates a personal feeling that brings more knowledge to live better. Channelled as a love poem so that we with individual emotions may understand. Allah wants all humans to succeed and without getting into an argument of Hindu or Muslim God it is a means by which knowledge is transferred.
Sham Chaurasi Gharana has a history of over 600 years. Their basic component is the dhrupad style, it is a different discussion for a different day, that not many people listen to dhrupad gayaki nowadays across the Indian subcontinent.
I can by no means call myself and Indian Classical expert, but it is the only music that moves me like no other, and Ustd Salamat Ali tops the list for me. I don't know if he stays in the norms of the classic indian classical, but i'll tell you this: Nobody can surpass him with harkats... but then shouldn't one be allowed that if you are capable.
ohh, is Ch. Nisar (MNA) is sitting at the back, wah, kia puraney loog kia great singer, and thats the time when art was been promoted, May GOd gives us heart to give each other space to live free and freedom of experation.
funny you should say that, at 4:58 the guy sitting highest at the back checks his body as if to say 'am i still alive? am i still here?' This is probably the most awesome performance ive ever seen, i swear he sings notes that dont even exist.
Aisa gana ab no ho sake ga because this era is filled by artificial fankars made by media. I only can say about Ustad salamat ali khan sahib merhoom. Zamin Kha Gai Asman Kese Kese.
shabbir, thank you so much. kya baat hai. this video of ustad salamat ali khan is such a treasure. i have a recent recording of the same kaafi by his younger son shafqat ali khan. regretfully the light in the room was low so the video is does not look good however one can still hear the singing quite well. arif ali khan - montreal
My Guruji Ustad Viswadeb Bhattacharya died on 27th June at 3 pm at Chakdaha,Nodia,West Bengal, India.rqst all to pass this information to the relatives of Ustad SALAMAT ALI KHAN.
HUMAN VOICE....NOT THE MUSIC THAT REFLECTS TO US...THATS WHY OLD SINGERS REFER THEIR SINGING VOICE THAN TO MUSIC INSTRUMENTS, AND IN THESE DAYS SINGERS GIVE IMPORTANCE TO MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS, SO WHAT HAPPENS WE LISTEN IT 1,2 AND TRIED ..BUT WE LISTEN OLD SONGS VERY MUCH THAT IS GOING ON AND ON ...
I think you referring o folk music, and mirasis that sang classical folk music of Punjab. Ustad salamat ali khan was not a folk musician but a classical one. He only started singing kafis after he settled in multan. He learned how to sing Kafis in Thumri ang because that is a classical ang of music. The thumri style he sings, was most witnessed in Ustad Ashiq ali khan the doyen of the Patiala Gharana.
Ustad Salamat's ancestors, Mian Suraj Khan and Mian Chand Khan, were court musicians under the patronage of the great connoisseur of classical music Mughal Emperor Akbar.
Punjab should thank god almighty that such singer was born there. One of the greatest of the 20th century. You my friend obviously are criticizing the fact that he fused classical with singing kafis, but I see nothing wrong with this, you have to understand this is a styles on its own, and it did not hijack folk music if that is what you are thinking.
Yea Bhi ek Pakistan tha or aj Bhi ek Pakistan hai, kiya hua hai us Pakistan ka jo kabhi yea tha? Kaha gaye woh mehfile, woh shayer, woh gawaiye, woh gulukaar? Kiski nazar lagi us Pakistan ko? Ek hindustani hone ke babuzut Bhi dil rota hai us Pakistan ke liye jissme kabhi is tarah ke gulukar bastete.
+animesh ghose..... achi mausiqui hamesha maazi ki howa karti he, sangeet insaani talent & faculty he, kabhi ubharta he, kabhi doobta he, agar musique advance na ho to woh stagnant hojata he, ya doosra rastah leta he, e.g kitna farq he quality ka 60s ki playback singing mein aur aaj ki, ya to aap advance hojao, yah compromise karlo, jistarha Bollywood ne karliya, box office to jeet liya paranto quality akarat hogayi....
Satyasheel, there are some like me who feel something stirring within on hearing this rendition. I would not even attempt to touch it with theories. While appreciation of theory and gharanas have their place, music is eventually above it all. You are entitled to an opinion, but consider for a moment, what you achieved with your analysis.
lol I see we meet yet again Ji. A simple question this time. This is not fully classical, is it? The reason I ask is because Ustad Miyan Shaukat Hussain Khan is playing a Bhajani Theka in Keherwa (dhin na dhindhin na etc. and playing quite wonderfully I may add). So this is an example of the Thaat concept you were explaining to me?
By the way, what in the world is the inner core of a raga? A raga is a raga, and often salamatji takes the liberty to break certain rules of the raga, but he admits to doing so. so i say what is the problem.
Virtuosity can become a serious problem - no way - the word virtuosity is a derivative of virtue - a virtue can never ever become a problem let alone a serious one. As for your comment that USAK Saab wasn't as reposeful as UAK - this is just a matter of opinion. I've heard some of USAK saabs unpublished dhrupads he sang with his brother UNAK saab in private mehfils in Pakistan for select audiences, trust me, the reposefullness in those recordings was immensely intense...
My friend I don't think you know what you are talking about. This is classical music, and yes it isn't easy folk music. Ustad salamat ali khan belongs to 16 generations of singers belonging to the Illustrious Shamchaurasi gahrana of Dhrupad singing. That goes a lot farther back then the folk music you are talking about.
haha, its funny u say that. that guy is the great Ustad Fateh Ali Khan. if he has to check his body, if i had been sitting there, i would have been in coma by then.LOL
well , every1 has there own point of views, and no point argueing over it tbh, ill keep mine , u keep urs. Personnally i think salamat ali khan in every aspect is better then amir khan, no1 can change that point of view of mines, but neither can i change for exp Satyasheelrawal point of view on this. so every1 be happy, and enjoy : )
its actually indian classical music, it has nothing to do with pakistan. You just can't appreciate the art. You have to understand not everyone likes this music, it come from a very old tradition. So what kind of music would you say is better than this anyways?
That's not all they were. The households the best classical singers of Subcontinental Asia came from were predominantly Muslim, because they are descended from musical courtesans of the Indian Mughal Empire, which was a Muslim nation. This doesn't necessarily mean that their being Muslim is the direct reason behind their being such great singers, but attempting to sideline that vital aspect of their history and culture is doing no insignificant injustice to their respective legacies.
Khan sahib was one the most blessed with his voice from all the classical singers. His bol taans were superb.there are things he was able do with his voice that only he could do because he was so blessed.I think people who listen to classical are very lucky to have some his recordings.because there will be a very long time for another Salamat to come around.
The best voice I have heard in 52 years of my life!
