Crafting a Leather Bike Bag

  • This is one of our ongoing projects in association with Electric Bike Company, based out of Newport Beach, CA, USA. Earlier this year, they approached us to help bring a handcrafted leather pannier style bike bag to their customers.
Our goal was to offer a bike bag that complimented the quality and durability of the bike while providing something different from the other bags on the market.
Handcrafted in Orange, CA, USA, these bags are made from Wickett & Craig's Buck Brown Harness leather and sewn with white polyester thread from Maine Thread Company.

My wife made fun of me (in a nice way) when she saw how riveted I was while watching this. I spent my working life as a high-end cabinetmaker and yacht joiner. It always brings me joy to see someone at the top of their game. He told his story without a word. He let his work speak for him. My hat is off to you, sir.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you found the video entertaining. My more recent videos include more of an ongoing VoiceOver since I had tons of people asking me to explain what I'm doing. However sometimes, I like to just... let the craft do the talking. So I appreciate comments like this.
      Cheers and thanks for watching.

Nice work. 53 years ago I had a leather satchel bag for school (like Angus Young Guitraist from AC/DC wore sometimes on stage). It lasted for many years and was a thing of beauty the older it got the better it looked, not like the canvas junk out there now. Also a leather belt pouch for keeping my passport and papers during a 2 year round the world hitch-hiking tour in the 70-80's. Love leather and wish I could make something like this. My truck today has leather seats (off course)

do it!!!! buy some basic tools and make a simple silly pouch then make yourself a belt for that pouch you dont need to be great at it youll get better with time and practice and even if you cant make fine craftmen items straight away youll have fun doing it

    1. Great work. 2. I had some similar saddlebags made but am disappointed at how thin they are. I showed the shop photos of what I wanted, but these collapse on themselves. They then lined them with a thin plastic to hold their shape. I have my doubts about them as to how much weight they can hold without getting stretched out. How thick is the leather in this video? Is there a name for the hide? Thanks!
