Best thing about this tutorial was that we were reminded of the fact that it took years to get to perfection and went through lot of failures. One of the things that intimidate me while watching other videos was them creating a perfect roti with so ease.
I have to say, You are exceptional at teaching cooking skills. I new to the channel and I am thoroughly enjoying your channel. I am learning SO much. Thank you for all the care and time you put into sharing Indian Cooking with us all.
Thank you Bumbi, I'm at home in my kitchen in New Zealand making this. I love your humor and lovely voice. I was writing down what ingredients you were saying. Such an encouraging video! I LOVE chapatis, and I’ve attempted making them before, but I just used a recipe and didn’t research the method. These look amazing, and I’m looking forward to trying again! Thank you ♥️
Roti making or not but the voice is giving something else. I mean energy for cooking. If your voice is this much soft how about your heart. Normally my daughter doesnt like cooking video but my daughter and son both started watching your video. Thanks love you❤
I have seen so many videos.. But your way of telling the receive is something different.. It gives me courage to do even after I give fail attempts.. It's gives me positive view to understand that it perfectly even if u fail to make it, u r just beginner.. U should not compare with ur in law even when they do.. Be positive and patience and try.. One day u will succeed.. U will gain that experience.. ❤
I am making chapaties for more than 55 years or more and as you said practice makes it easier. For me making 50 chapaties is very easy task but now being just 2 of us have to make 3-4 chapaties for lunch or dinner. Haah, that is difficult! Isn't it? But I do enjoy cooking fresh chapaties everyday. You have explained the whole procedure with lot of patience and all useful tips for beginners. I am sure my granddaughters when they will start cooking for themselves, they will search on the youtube how to make roti like mom and dadi made! 😀 and they will find your video very useful. Now a days girls are too much busy with school home work and other school activities that helping mom in the kitchen comes to last priority. Don't blame them at all, the time has changed. But one thing is positive that if they need to and want to cook, lots of videos are there for them to learn cook. Thanks for the video.

Thank you so much for making this video. I love how detailed it is and that it is very beginner friendly. I'm sure it will help me a lot. Iv found myself going more to traditional home curry cooks more than the BIR specialists on TH-cam as you are doing this cooking every day and the methods and recipes often passed through generations.... Thanks Bumbi
I’ve never mastered the art of making soft and round roties. My roties are soft on the day of preparing, but they get hard the next day. Hopefully I’ll get better with this video. Thank you for your very patient instructions.
Rotis do tend to get little hard when left overnight. Next day just brush very lightly with some water on both sides and microwave them. They get soft again.

Patience and soft spoken I must congratulate you Ma'am. You have explained in such a simple and beautiful way. God bless your dedication and concern to learners 🙌 😊🦋Thank you🙏
Bumbi you made this for me, I just know it. Of course, I needed this two years ago when you published it, but I just found this gem now. I’m not good at making roti, chapati, naan, paratha, you name the flatbread and I mess it up every single time. They taste perfectly fine, but they are too thick, weirdly shaped and just not up to my standards. So thank you, you addressed some of my mistakes here, so I’m making some soon to see if I can apply what I learned from you. Good bread is so amazing!! I don’t know how people go on low carb diets and cut all bread out of their meals. I wouldn’t last a day.
I recently found your channel and it has helped me so much! I love your methods, adore your humor and really admire your humility. You are fantastic and I appreciate you sharing what is obviously decades of experience! Simple and delicious!!
Amazing! Unfortunately the temp of my electric hobs are too unpredictable but I'm still happy with the result! Huge difference from last nights 'tortilla' to todays soft Roti. Thank you 🙏

Dear Curries with Mumbi, Thank you. I came to your video as I was out of practice with making Roti, Paratha, and the Breads in the Style of India. "I am learning the Hindi language and other languages I'm sorry if I offend but doing my best, I will not try to speak". I did at one point engage or help in the process, and did my best. Your video engaged me. I cannot claim to be any expert on the Indian cuisine, or bread, unfortunately. But my background is I am interested in cuisine, local and of the world, and in my University days I had the GREAT fortune of getting to know and live with some Indian guys. I am Irish! Those guys were all international students, amazing Indian people who have all gone on to great things. And I tried my best to help them in the preparation of meals. And they too, they helped me prepare many Traditional Irish dishes. I love your style of cooking and I realised at the end of your video this has been 20 years in the making! I was going to ask you Curries with Mumbi how you don't get the Roti's coming out hard and flat like Tortillas!! Then I knew my kind oh so kind Indian friends gave me the easy job of when the dough was rolled and the work was done I could tend it over the pan! Gas works so well (we had gas), and I relate to you saying adjust the temperature. That is not so possible or delayed with electric hobs. I also realised from your video some of my flaws. I used too little flour when dusting and such a great tip you said to flip between palms to remove the flour. Thank you so much. And as a Mathematics graduate and Computer Science Masters Graduate, अरे बाप रे!!lol I am so not feeling so bad about the circle being an ellipse! I suppose, Curries With Bumbi, I shouldn't feel so bad about it. But, then, having thought about it, I suppose, because I cant make perfect Roti that is ok. I can make the bread. In an Irish way. and we are very much based on potato diet so lots of our bread incorporates potato. And bread too. But to be fair the skill level in your making of bread is far higher. I know it is not a competition. But I absolutely LOVED your video and subscribed! I love your wisdom and experience. And I can see how the main meal, be it in India, in Dublin, New York, London, anywhere in the world, is so important. I thin you have "nailed it", as in it takes a lot of work (My Brother is an accountant Curries with Mumbi, yet he loves making bread. Honestly. He worked for the Bank of England, in London, he moved with his wife to Yorkshire, in North England. But he is so into the BREAD!!! He has a dough making machine, he makes his kids help, etc lol. He has even sold loaves at the local fair Curries with Mumbi, But.....He can't make Roti either!!! I am so sorry I am just realising what a long and too long this message was. I apologise, and obviusly no need to reply. I just liked your video and although Irish I have a strong Indian friend history and felt a need to connect, isn't that what the internet is about?! Your skills amaze me!! YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Couldnt have done or shown it any better. Cuzzz after successfully spoiling roti for more times countable, i finally made them perfect today! Thanks a bunch!!
I made your wonderful cauliflower and potato curry recipe and ordered some atta to make my first roti. Thank you for the tips and guides.
Thank you for such an easy to understand & follow demonstration for making roti. I thought I had some leftover rice to eat with my leftover Dahl but no 🥲 So decided to look up a recipe for roti and found your video. I am going to make some right now. You have a love,y, kind and gentle voice.
Hope you like it. Happy cooking.
Your cooking skills are evident with the ease that you display as you’re rolling these out in the more difficult way. They were perfectly round, perfectly prepared and I know they tasted perfectly as well. Watching you cook and listening to your voice is such a pleasure. Thank you!
Thanks for your kind words Dianna. Your comments inspire me so much.
@@CurriesWithBumbi and your presence on TH-cam inspires so many of us!

I bought 10kl of chapati flour without ever having made them...thank goodness for TH-cam and your brilliant video. Thank you.
Thanks for your lovely comment. Glad you found the video useful.
I HAVE A TAWA I LIKE USING IT TO MAKE MY ROTI. I LIKE ROTI A LOT FROM I WAS A CHILD.
This has been the best recipe descrption on how to make soft chapatis, lovely soft friendly voice. The tips have helped me finally make edible chapatis. Thank you for you patience in teaching us beginners. Must look at your other recipes
I am so happy to hear that. Thank you.
Best thing about this tutorial was that we were reminded of the fact that it took years to get to perfection and went through lot of failures. One of the things that intimidate me while watching other videos was them creating a perfect roti with so ease.
Thanks for leaving a comment.
Not only is this recipe and other recipes delicious looking ( and tasting) food, also your voice and manner is completely soothing. ❤🙏
I am glad you enjoy watching my videos. Thanks for leaving a comment.
I have to say, You are exceptional at teaching cooking skills. I new to the channel and I am thoroughly enjoying your channel. I am learning SO much. Thank you for all the care and time you put into sharing Indian Cooking with us all.
Thanks for all your support 🙏🏾
This is an excellent video, so detailed. I have been struggling to get my rotis soft, and this will really help. Thank you.
Glad you found the video useful. Thanks for leaving a comment.
Perfect recipe
Thank you Bumbi, I'm at home in my kitchen in New Zealand making this. I love your humor and lovely voice. I was writing down what ingredients you were saying. I wrote 1 half cups of butter, I think that can't be & listening again you were saying Atta😂 silly me, anyway I've been searching for a teaching like this in English for ages. I'm lucky I found you. You are fantastic & I'm feeling proud. Thank you Bumbi 🙏🏻💖
Haha 😀. Just to let you know that the ingredient proportions are given in the description box below the video. Please click on “more” situated below the title of the video to open up the description box
Such an encouraging video! I LOVE chapatis, and I’ve attempted making them before, but I just used a recipe and didn’t research the method. These look amazing, and I’m looking forward to trying again! Thank you ♥️
Glad you found the video useful. Thanks for leaving a comment. Please do try it and send me your feedback.
Thank you for your guidance,I was able to make roti for the first time❤❤❤ I can't express my gratitude, thank u so much 🤗🤗
Great 👍
Roti making or not but the voice is giving something else. I mean energy for cooking. If your voice is this much soft how about your heart. Normally my daughter doesnt like cooking video but my daughter and son both started watching your video. Thanks love you❤
I am glad my videos caught the attention of your children. Thanks for all your love and support. I really appreciate it 🙏🏾
I have seen so many videos.. ❤
Practice, Patience, Perseverance are the three key words to be successful in making perfect rotis.
What a lovely video! So gentle and encouraging. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thank you
Thank you for the useful tips, what to look out for. Chapati is healthy, delicious and thankfully not too complicated for me to make.
Loved reading your comment. Thanks
Thank you so much! Very useful video. Im Italian just married to a Pakistani and I want to try making roti - he is the one who has been making roti so far but I want to try :)
Happy cooking
I've done it tonight and it was amazing, thank you so much! I subscribed to your beautiful channel @@CurriesWithBumbi
@toohappytobehomesick I am so happy to hear that. Thanks for trying it. Now both you and your husband can take turns in making rotis and believe me it gets better and better each time you make it.
@@CurriesWithBumbiexactly: today he’s at work until late so I am preparing the roti, yesterday he did - faster than me but he was surprised when he found the rotis on the table! When he asked me how I could make them, I replied “Bumbi” 😅😊
@toohappytobehomesick 😀
Thank you so much for making this video. I love how detailed it is and that it is very beginner friendly. I'm sure it will help me a lot. I am a Filipina, and I wanted to make roti and chapati for my Indian boyfriend. I feel that this will be my go-to channel on my journey to learning Indian cuisine. 🥰🥰🥰
Welcome 🙏🏾, I am glad you are here
Thank you for making this video. It's very clear and easy to follow. Also, your voice is very pleasant and relaxing.
Your sweet voice and throughly spoken words and instructions have helped me accomplish making roti! Gracias! Shukriya! Dhanwaad! ❤
I am so very happy to hear that. Thanks for your feedback
Best video on roti making... thank you
I have tried numerous recipes...this one works. I particularly like the advice in the video. Iv found myself going more to traditional home curry cooks more than the BIR specialists on TH-cam as you are doing this cooking every day and the methods and recipes often passed through generations.... Thanks Bumbi
Thank you very much. This is my first time to make chapati. You have explained in detail. I have made the best chapati in the world. Am so happy
I am so happy to hear that. Glad you found the video useful
Fell in love with your teaching, one of the best explanations & teaching 👌🏼🥰 a MUST watch for all chapatis makers…
Thanks for watching
Thanks for this, will give it a go, bought Chapati flour for the first time.....
Thank you so very much. I made them with atta flour. I was beginning to get discouraged using the atta, your tips truly help. ❤❤
I am so happy you found this video useful. Thanks.
@@CurriesWithBumbi please keep posting ❤️. Do you have Some breakfast dishes?. I love indian food, i cook them quit often but chapati with atta has always been a challenge. What part of India are you from if you dont mind me asking?
@ladyzioness I am from Kolkata
Another wonderful video. I really learn so much watching them. I’m very serious when it comes to Indian food. 😮
Glad you found the video useful. Thanks.
Excellent explanation. I followed the recipe and my roties came out soft and remained soft the next day as well. Thank you so much for the wonderful recipe.

Thanks a lot for the well spoken and the detailed explanation using the right tone where required. you reminded me of one of my class teacher. I knew that bengolis are well educated and well spoken people and you have once again proved it. Thanks again for helping me out as I' am a beginner and this video of yours has definately helped me out to understand about the right technique to do a perfect roti and also motivating all of us that failure is key to success.
Thanks for your kind words
I made this and now it’s my go to recipe. Thank you so much.❤❤

I like the way you speak. Very consoling.thank you. I still can't get it right. So I hardly make chapaties. Will try your method and get back to you.
Please keep trying. Patience is key to making chapatis. You will soon be successful
I love your video, your voice is so gentle and encouraging and such a contrast to the relentless high octane shouting and music of so many cooking videos and others. My chapati s do puff up, but my partner thinks they are too raw, so maybe I need to roll them a bit thinner and turn the heat down. Thank you 🙏
Yes roll them out thin and roast on medium heat
Patience and soft spoken I must congratulate you Ma'am. You have explained in such a simple and beautiful way. God bless your dedication and concern to learners 🙌 😊🦋Thank you🙏
Thanks for your kind words
@CurriesWithBumbi My pleasure ☺
This is the best Roti video I've ever seen!It is a clear explanation video. I was upset when the Roti didn't puff.
Please keep practising and you will soon get them puffed up.
You can do it !! Practice makes it better.
I recently found your channel and it has helped me so much! I love your methods, adore your humor and really admire your humility. You are fantastic and I appreciate you sharing what is obviously decades of experience! Simple and delicious!!
Thanks for your kind words. I am glad you find my videos useful.
You explain very clearly and in detail. Fantastic. In the end you boble up on an enectric stove. That is nice. I have only electric stove.🎉
My moms away on a trip and I was craving handmade roti, thank you so much!!!
Thank you for the instructions, very helpful, learnt from my mistakes and yes, so good to hear your voice whilst learning
Amazing! Unfortunately the temp of my electric hobs are too unpredictable but I'm still happy with the result! Huge difference from last nights 'tortilla' to todays soft Roti. Thank you 🙏
Great 👍🏽
VRRY SOFTLY SPOKEN VOICE ZND DEMONSTRATED IN A PROFESSIONAL PROFESSIONAL WAY THANK YOU.I GET VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH MY TOTIS AS THEY COME OUT VERY CRISPY..IT JUST DADENS ME.
Just keep on practising. Do not roll them out too thin nor too thick. Roast them on medium heat.
Yes Mam you provide all mynute details. Any beginners who are following your videos will just have very good start in their cooking phase. Believe I'm not the expectional! My mind feels very soothing n relaxed hearing your voice. Wish you 1M+ subscribes in coming days💐
Thanks for your kind words. I am glad you find my videos useful.
Dear Curries with Mumbi,
Thank you. And as a Mathematics graduate and Computer Science Masters Graduate,
अरे बाप रे!!lol I am so not feeling so bad about the circle being an ellipse!
He has even sold loaves at the local fair Curries with Mumbi,
But.....He can't make Roti either!!!

Hi Bumbi, this is the best chapati recipe! I have tried lots of recipes/techniques before but none have turned out as good as yours! It turns out so soft although I didn’t have the same brand of atta, it still turned out great. I also tried your pumpkin and sweet potato roti which were also good. Thanks once again
I am so happy you tried this recipe and was successful.
