At 18:40 he didn't start the bolt by hand like the top one and cross threaded it.... Which u can tell by the impact hitting before it starts tightening... This is why I work on my own car. Also they are aluminum calipers and reefing those retainer bolts is completely un necessary. After a few pad changes they arent going to thread in
Matt, the mechanic that is installing your brakes exactly right on the break-in procedure and beadding in the pads! I've got the same rotors on my subie stoptech pads and rotors, but I went with the cryo models, I noticed from day-to-day City traffic that sometimes I lose that film on the rotor and if I once in a while do that brake pad stopping procedure the pedal comes right back to me. You know your mechanics pretty good I do all the same thing myself that he does, how many people are afraid to do their own brakes but the Japanese cars are so easy.
It’s a lovely build and I can totally agree with fulfilling your 20’s dreams later in life!! Well worth it. Gorgeous car. Selfishly I hope you keep it.
Matt keep your s2k. I know it brings you back memories from your early 20s. I wish I would have kept my 2002 subaru wrx with my bronze ce28n that I had in my early 20s.
Bought my 07 with 28k miles and sure enough mine had all the signs of highly modified once I started digging in doing the same stuff. Cant wait to see what I find next :)
Looks great! As for the height adjustment... I'm not 100% sure, but I almost want to say that you guys may have messed up the preload/dampening of the coilovers. When I adjust my coilovers, I always loosen the lower lock ring, then disconnect where it connects to the control arm, and adjust it the height that way.
Chlorinated brake cleaner will destroy paint and if you ever weld right after you use it you can't because the gas from the chlorinated brake cleaner will kill you that's why you should always look for non-chlorinated brake cleaner because it doesn't wreck painted surfaces but nowadays everything is non-chlorinated. Those set screws are there from the factory Honda does that to all their vehicles on the factory line it just helps hold the rotors in place going down the factory line.
I had the same exact problem with my bbk on my s2000. I’m glad I wasn’t alone in that one! I had to grind my ball joints down as well but I found that an alignment and raising the car a bit helped. Maybe there is a better solution.
Rewatching Matt's old videos for inspiration on my s2000 build. This mechanic is rough as fuck on everything he touches lol. I would be bald if I was there.
I know nobody cares anymore but i am rewatching the series and people are saying how the guy cross threaded the bolt but he actually didn’t, he hand screwed the top and caused the bottom to have pressure due to the top already being screwed in a little bit. So obviously needed a little persuasion to put the bottom bolt in.
Watch the savagegeese video about braided stainless brake lines. It made me decide to stay OEM on my track Miata. Just make sure you check the routing and that nothing can possibly rub them. Looks great! The cars getting totally dialed.
tself77 Matt and I share totally different mentalities about mods despite us loving the same cars. Matt likes the prestige value of mods for sure. Problem with BBKs you are pretty much forced into stainless lines because the oem lines are not going to mount up.
Dmand18729 Ahh yes...that's the word I'm looking for. It definitely is unfortunately. It wasn't shoved in far enough before to torqued it with the impact.
yeah I wondered why he impacted the bottom right away before making sure the threads were seated like he did with the top. was he adjusting the wrong collar on the coilover too?? (I thought the collar under the spring was to set preload and not to be fiddled with when wanting to adjust height)
I just heard your last podcast with larry and there is something i always question myself. guys like you and larry put out so much stuff for free putting in so much work. How does it work that you still make money at the end of the day. I mean if you would force it you could easily sell even more stuff and monetaize everything etc. And if i here the podcast and stuff i can literally hear the passion. How does it work if you dont get paid for most of the things
Killabandit, you have to weigh your options. Is it worth it for me to do it myself , or for the cost of someone else to do it, can I spend my time elsewhere doing something more important.
Obsessed Garage I'm definitely gonna talk to evasive motorsports since I havent found anybody with volks wheels for my car on the forums. Hope to see more of your s2k and volk wheels. thanks!
Ramo They aren't need. When you brake weight transfers forward, so the fronts need the bigger calipers. The backs while important, aren't nearly as stressed as the fronts.
Not sure if you did further research, but I found this thread on s2ki: www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-racing-competition-11/rotor-lca-contact-1145931/page3/ Looking at your older videos, looks like you're running Megan RCAs, just like the people in the s2ki thread are, who are having similar problems.
That might be a temporary solution. Since you've lowered the car, you're going to need to correct the roll-center eventually to maintain ideal suspension geometry. Maybe research if the J's Racing RCA have the same problem. I have those, and will want to buy a ST BBK later too. Good luck, and the S2000 is looking great!!!
Obsessed Garage hope you get it! Drive the value of mine up!! There is probally someone out there who will pay it. Will probably be a new all time high as well!

Just watched this video but hes touching the mating surfaces too pads and rotors

Looks awesome Matt. Love the CE28s. Great choice to go with a big square setup.
S2k is beautiful. i would definitely try and purchase if it sells.. And to have a car that comes from Matt is truly a value in its self..
It’s a lovely build and I can totally agree with fulfilling your 20’s dreams later in life!! Well worth it. Gorgeous car. Selfishly I hope you keep it.
Thanks Andrew.
IMO the Trophy kit is by far the cleanest and best looking option out there. The fact that they're nestled under Volks is icing on the cake.
Just ordered a set of C28n for my Dc5! JDM dream coming true!
Car is really coming together nicely Matt👍🏽
Keep the damn car matt
Matt keep your s2k. I know it brings you back memories from your early 20s. I wish I would have kept my 2002 subaru wrx with my bronze ce28n that I had in my early 20s.
We'll see. I'm in such a different place now.
Bought my 07 with 28k miles and sure enough mine had all the signs of highly modified once I started digging in doing the same stuff. Cant wait to see what I find next :)
PLEASE keep the car Matt. There is no car that will give you the same feeling as the s2k. And you make many of our s2k fantasies come to real life

Great video Matt. Happy to learn along the way and be inform by such a good mechanic..

Looks great... keep at it.. love the black CE28's
KJ Wong for real... looks dope. best looking ce28 imo.
Looking forward to washing video of the S2K with the Volks/Stoptech/Cup2s finally installed !!! More accurately the "denubbing" of the Cup2s 👍✔️
Damn...all these quality parts! So sick Matt!!
Picking up the completed project tomorrow. My guess is that I'll need to make a few more tweaks, and we are complete.
Damn that's a hell of a set up. JDM dreams indeed.
That is the correct way to do a brake job on any car.
Awesome calipers! Look into Spiegler brake lines. They’re on a whole other level of build quality.
Cant wait to see some track vids. Loving what I see. Keep it up sir!
You'll be waiting a long time for that one.
Rewatching Matt's old videos for inspiration on my s2000 build. This mechanic is rough as fuck on everything he touches lol. I would be bald if I was there.
Oo man, the S2000 looks lovely!
Put the center caps to wheels cause my OCD, well... you know 😄
Done.
I take that comment back..those front calipers are monsterous..
I think the rotor is rubbing because of the roll center correction pieces you have installed. They might be incompatible with the brake kit.
your s2000 is how i want mine to be, good taste
Thanks man.
Keep up the great videos dude. Talk to you soon
9:23 if you listen closely, you can tell from his voice that he's really excited
Ha... You have to really listen to see any excitement in me.
The car looks soooo SICK :D! clean
Awesome Update Matt!
I really love those big brake caliper and those wheels
damn
GT4 calling your name Matt!
Did he change the pre-load? Not sure if someone commented about that already. Should've adjusted the height from the bottom mount, not the spring.
noticed the same thing..
Old comment, but he did. You can see the bottom lock ring is loose and is getting further from the shock base.
I’m having the same exact issue. Was it only your passenger side Matt?
So much awesome here! I just hope maybe in the future you get into sportbikes and do a build on one 😊
Matt, how did you find out the car was heavily modified prior to your ownership? If you don’t mind me asking
Someone sent me a link to the original listing of the car with the super charger and all the stuff on it.
It looks great Matt...that little issue should be fixable....
Yeah, I think we have it figure out.
why didnt you remove the rust on the hubs (14:24) ? the S2000 looks very good with the new wheels, I hope you keep it!!
Watch the savagegeese video about braided stainless brake lines. It made me decide to stay OEM on my track Miata. Just make sure you check the routing and that nothing can possibly rub them. Looks great! The cars getting totally dialed.

Looks awesome!
Does look like he cross threaded that Left Front lower pad bolt.
No...
I thought the same thing but cross threaded not stripped
Dmand18729 Ahh yes...that's the word I'm looking for. It definitely is unfortunately. It wasn't shoved in far enough before to torqued it with the impact.
Yeah that's been cross threaded, you can even hear the sound difference from the top and bottom bolt
yeah I wondered why he impacted the bottom right away before making sure the threads were seated like he did with the top. was he adjusting the wrong collar on the coilover too?? (I thought the collar under the spring was to set preload and not to be fiddled with when wanting to adjust height)
I'm about to order this big brake kit but now I know it don't fit and hit the lower control arms. Sad
The front rotors are rotational correct
Damn that really looks cool
I just heard your last podcast with larry and there is something i always question myself. guys like you and larry put out so much stuff for free putting in so much work. Obsessed Garage i guess you just have to invest into it and eventualy it will pay out.
Obsessed Garage but i think you still should earn more.
Matt: I'm going to stop saying "Gotcha".
*1 minute later*
Matt: Gotcha.
Sigh...
Damn that one beautiful car
That looks fucking sick. Gotta keep the car
does the stock cr wheel clear str40 trophy kit?
The lugs really complement the exhaust tips
Compared to the GT3-RS them calipers are puny.. but it is a Honda. I'm sure they are more than adequate.. nice upgrade..
No shit you stupid fuck
No paint prep of the calipers? Why not get them blasted then powder coated?
This works just fine. Sprayed with brake cleaner, wiped and blown off, paint.
Whats the point/benefit of only upgrading the front brakes?
They do 80% of the work.
did you ever fix the rotor problem
Curious why you didnt do proper g2 paint on rears?
I hit the same snag also with the lower control arm hitting the rotor. what's the fix?
I had the control arm offset bushings in backwards.
Hopefully you keep it
Killabandit, you have to weigh your options. Is it worth it for me to do it myself , or for the cost of someone else to do it, can I spend my time elsewhere doing something more important.
Did you modify your fenders to clear the wheels?
Yes, rolled in the front and rear, no pulling. Rear had fender tabs relocated.
It almost looked like it was going to be to narrow for the lift.
matt how did u figure out what size ce28 would clear your stoptech bbk? especially since most places wont let you test fit wheels.
S2ki.com Forum is a great resource. That and talking with Evasive Motorsports guided me in the right direction.
Obsessed Garage I'm definitely gonna talk to evasive motorsports since I havent found anybody with volks wheels for my car on the forums. Hope to see more of your s2k and volk wheels. thanks!
What are the specs on the ce28? Size and offset? Looking to do this bbk on my vehicle.
Evasive spec. 17x9.5ET50
Obsessed Garage how much space is there? I’m running 17x9 +63 upfront
Can you provide the specs on the wheels and tire setup
17x9.5ET50 square. Evasive is where I got them.
Obsessed Garage what about the tires?
@@ObsessedGarage Matt did you require a fender roll front/rear for that fitment? Thanks
Should do front n rear trophy brakes for max bling 😄
I would have, but then don't make a rear kit.
whats the part number of the long wrenches your buddy was using ??
I'm not sure, but the are Snap-On.
Amuse lugs? Beautiful setup!
No, they are from ECS.
damn she looks so gooooooood
are your fenders rolled?
Yes, rolled but not pulled.
Why don't the rears have the big calipers as well?
Ramo They aren't need. When you brake weight transfers forward, so the fronts need the bigger calipers. The backs while important, aren't nearly as stressed as the fronts.
most rear bbk's require the e-brake to be modified or completely removed. more headache than it is worth.
Do u miss this car yet?
But....... is it dialed in....?
When will the gt3 rs first drive vid be up?
Uploading first drive video now.
Why'd you not paint the rear calipers Silver to match the Stoptechs?
I don't want to advertise those tiny calipers.
CLEAN
How about I let you drive the Z4M Coupe and I drive this thing so I can compare it to my stock S2k
Not sure if you did further research, but I found this thread on s2ki: www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-racing-competition-11/rotor-lca-contact-1145931/page3/
Looking at your older videos, looks like you're running Megan RCAs, just like the people in the s2ki thread are, who are having similar problems.
I have Hardrace that are the same. I wonder if I'd be better off just leaving the factory control arms and factory offset.
Yeah...that's why I chose to add them, to maintain proper geometry. But I doubt it makes so much difference that it's worth losing the brakes.
the hardrace offset balljoints with roll center adjustment will solve your problem
I predict he’ sells the this car because the ball joint issue
Ha, ha... That day I thought about it. We figured it out. Roll center adjusters were installed backwards.
How much you asking? 🙋🏻♂️
If I did sell it complete, it would be over $65,000.
Obsessed Garage hope you get it! Drive the value of mine up!! There is probally someone out there who will pay it. Will probably be a new all time high as well!
get David Patterson (ThatDudeInBlue) to review it!
I might. We spent some time together at SEMA.
I sense he will be bored with this soon, so save up your $$$
Ha, ha... Good idea.
