This was a beautiful documentary on the life's rendition of a beautiful soul. We do not have enough wise men left on this earth and Jack was certainly one of them🌠💞🌠
We have a series of videos of Jack taking about his creations. We will post those soon! Thanks for watching. Jack is gone from this earth, but I believe he is still paying attention to it!
@@thomasagrant It's sad to hear of Jack's passing. I am sure his deeply profound, beautiful and inspirational legacy will be weaved forever on our earth and hopefully his knowledge may continue to be shared with preceding generations 🕊🌍🕊
I really enjoyed this. Great story and a great journey! All the best to Jack and his family. Thank you and look forward to more of your channel and work!
It would be great to see the DNA on this family to see what tribe they come from. Amazing man, and it sounds like the Lord has blessed his family. With skills to make it through this life. Thank God his son got to reconnect with his father. Thank you again for this beautiful story.
Great job, very interesting video. Thanks for sharing with us..Met a fellow once in Elk county Pa. That makes At Latals then demonstrates and shares his passion for these early wepons. He set up targets for everyone from children to adults. Listening to him explain his collection to the adults and kids just kinda made time feel backed up a 1000 years. This man was in his 80's that spoke his hobby like he was 12 years old. So excited to pass on his knowledge to any and all that was listening. I just hope we do not lose the knowledge our ancestors passed on to us.
The Good - Award winning documentary. The Bad - I am a Father and if someone was after me I would fight them because I need to be on this planet to protect my family. I think that raising your son/daughter would be priority one. I understand Jack was adopted and those scares never really heal. But I could never ever imagine leaving my Son. The Ugly - Abandonment.
Someone should help this man document some of his knowledge in a book. I would buy it immediately. As a bow hunter I have always wanted to learn to make my own primitive bow. I have traditional recurve, but would love to make my own out of Osage orange from the farm.
When Jack made his sheep horn bows, there wasn't much information available about how to do it. But now people have published help online for those wanting to try it. It still is not easy however, and it took Jack a great deal of time to refine his bows. I hope others will try, then let us know how it went. Jack believes a well-made sheep horn bow could shoot 500 yards.
This is absolutely where I wanna grow old. This old timer, is the last of its kind. Such a shame , kids these days will never know ,how spoiled they are.. Salute from Denmark 🇩🇰
@@thomasagrant we had an old timer like this in our Town called Blokhus. It my dad,we even have our own dialect. I speak it to but the rest of the family don't since they have moved on..
This is great, thank you. I haven't even finished it yet, I'm kind of savoring it. I have to say my first thought about his mother is thank God he wasn't born in this day and age or she would have turned him into a damn female. God help us all
No doubt about it,, Jack's knowledge and talent is incredible. The issues he went through at Canadian customs was most unfortunate BUT those rules are public knowledge. They were just doing their job even though it almost took Jack from this planet. All his life work was 'supposedly' destroyed by the border customs agents. One cannot help but wonder,, did they? or did they take those items for themselves? They knew what they were and they knew the work required to create them.
Jack said he believed some of his work was hanging on the walls of people in the Canadian government. It made him angry, but he did everything he could to get it back. So he had to rebuild his collection late in life, and he did an amazing job of that.
Every gov. system is inherintly corrupt. Because its sole purpose is to control people. Most people who end up working in that system become corrupt themselves. You will have better luck talking down a brown bear than dealing with them...
I'd like to meet Hazen... I like the way he thinks, close to the Earth mother, primitively. Our culture is absolutely in trouble... Jack is right when he says, "take care of the earth, and it will take care of you"... humanity is doing a very poor job of it.
Jack certainly said some things that would be impossible to confirm. But I never saw Jack as a braggart. When spoke with his work, and he made incredible tools and weapons. If he sounds like he was trying to appear important, you should probably blame the director (me) for choosing those sound bites. I saw him as living a very humble life, but having the desire late in life to pass along what he knew. And he was willing during our years of working this project to speak extremely freely about anything and everything. Thanks for watching.
@@thomasagrant Thanks for your clarification. What you said rings true. As I watched this video, I repeatedly wondered how the editor who obviously thought highly of Jack could make him sound less than humble and motivated only to share useful knowledge for posterity. I salute Jack for his generosity.
I believe you as a kid I would know things and how to make things...like they did in the Indians days...its was weird I know how to make fire Knives and everything's even Bricks with straw...I would do things others didn't know how to do and i was a kid about 7 but I knew things...know 54 yrs old but i collect knives in tomahawks...its in my Blood...
Everyone has different ways of showing love for their children. Jack's was disappearing for 35 years then apologising and expressing sentimental feelings of regret .... nothing wrong with that
I think Jack knew there was something wrong with leaving his son, but he felt he had no choice. And I choose not to judge him -- just to tell his story. It was up to his son to judge, and Jay Dowdy was incredibly kind to Jack, even after all those years. I appreciate your comment, and Jack would, too. Thanks for watching!
Sadly, Jack was not in the best of shape when we shot him throwing the atlatl. But we know that 10 years earlier he taught the use of the atlatl, and that he once killed an elk with an atlatl in Idaho. Too bad he grew old and lost that strength before we could record it.
