I constantly talk to my screen when watching CR about rules. I just don’t go online and directly attack them for getting things wrong. I have the benefit of not having to play a character or DM, so I tend to catch more stuff.
I agree. I add to that, it's their game. "The Rule of Cool" is also Matt's shield. What? 4 of those people never played prior to that first session at home? I would ease things up too! As it happens, this agreed upon set of looser rules (FCG's sacrifice) became super popular and they made a company out of it. It would be different if Matt's rules changed. As far as I know, this is still the same game but now there's a whole world and three campaigns from it.
I really like the combat this session, the party felt so connected and in sync with each other. For the blue tracker I thought that was Lilliana succeeding on saving throws against Ludinus, but that cant be right. Im thinking for why Ludinus is stalling is 1. To monologue, and 2. Something is happening in the background, and Ludinus just needs to wait, to stall. Awesome video, have an awesome holidays! Have a great new years!!
15:40 “The Exaltants helping him should get out because it’s only a matter of time.” I think it’s safe to guess either that Ludinus either keeps the majority of his victims secret or (in cult leader fashion) convinced his closest inner circle that they’re a special exception.
Correction: Forcecage does prevent teleportation, he needs to make a successful Charisma saving throw to attempt to leave with a teleportation effect (Wich wizards are not good at). So it might be hard for him. That is maybe why he is stalling. Btw great analysis as always, hopefuly they get him before he leaves!!
I assume that he has legendary resistances, so failing the save is not the issue; however, it might not make sense for him to use a LR (if he fails the save, which as you noted he might be bad at) if he thinks a fight with BH prior to unleashing Pradathos is inevitable. Him casting something like Dimension Door would also potentially eat a spell slot or use an item charge (depending), one that he might prefer to have available in any such fight. So, tactically, it might be better for Ludinus to wait the full hour rather than waste resources. Just my thoughts.
I agree that the second clock is Mighty Nein related, and more specifically the Weave Mind's death (further reason for Ludinus to monologue for time), so that whatever happens with the Bells is the timeline finale.
I hope Marisha doesn't forget she has the Mask of the Raven Queen. No idea on what it can do? But, I have a hunch it will come in handy in the final battle.
They always forget that it's not that hard to escape from the portable hole. I like to think that all the people they think they've killed with it just escaped and they never noticed. I've been waiting for them to plant that All Minds Burn seed forever. Merry Critmas all.
I don't know how, but lately, the CR cast has gotten much more adept at combat, pulling out a lot of clutch spells and maneuvers over the past few combat-heavy episodes. I thought it was interesting that Matt misinterpreted Dorian's Hynoptic Pattern to be targeted, and the incapacitated condition should have immediately ended the concentrations of the Exalted. However, he started to use the same spell against BH members, so it ended up being more of a wash. No harm done ultimately. I do wonder if Ludinus fully anticipated BH's arrival and actually plans to die and become the vessel for Predathos as he says. Thus, it may not actually matter to him so much if they kill him right away or not. However, I do not think he anticipated the Weave Mind being destroyed before his plans were finished, and thus, he may be thrown for a loop once that is revealed.
Maybe the blue timer has something to do with the gods deciding whether or not they'll intervene, as the Arch Heart mentioned they were right on the cusp of it. Either way, I’m curious to know!
I was at my work's Christmas do just before this episode, so thanks for the recap when I was definitely too drunk to catch everything 😅 I will never get tired of watching Bell's Hells be totally ride-or-die for each other. The way they all just locked in for Imogen is giving me some seriously Big Feelings.
Remember Daggerheart ihas no setting attached, homebrew is something they are supporting (via a whole chapter last I remember), so its not far-fetched for them to use the system for C4. But if anyone has doubts, the live show that is specifically Exandria x Daggerheart should hopefully dispel that. I personally am fine with C4 being either system.
Thanks for the recap, always enjoy your videos. I thought the group was going to plant the seed in the underground cavern they found after swimming through the lake portal but Ashton made a good, lucky, choice instead. Since both entities are fungal based and feeling loneliness, maybe they are separated family? Being pulled apart when the gods created Ruidus. I still don't know if I fully trust Braius but I guess we will see soon. I'm so happy that Mamma was saved and still alive at this time. AND Ludinus must die forever..!
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Matt somewhere say that as long as the absorbing of a being isn't completed, the absorbed powers only last 24h and aren't permenant? So wouldn't that mean that Liliana would get her powers back?
While there was much discussion in the moment about the ruling that concentration isn't dropped by incapacitation (which isn't mentioned under 'incapacitated' but is under 'concentration' in the rules which is just bad editing) I don't think it mattered much since it was only a bonus action to reconnect. It was easier to kill them one by one than to make sure all the enemies dropped concentration at once, I think.
Yeah, it was definitely smart to keep them holding that concentration, even if dropping it all would also be clutch (provided they would have switched up tactics immediately after) Realistically, an enemy spellcaster holding concentration is good because they have an incentive not to change their pattern. They were limited to non-concentration spells unless they had a fallback option in the other people I believe, which is good because concentration spells tend to be heavy hitters. If they were to drop them all, they'd have to play a much more careful combat, but both have their merits.
I think the next campaign could be daggerheart but as much as 1000 years in the future after the gods have been killed or left and the red moon crashes onto Exandria. That would allow for radical changes to the population and the landscape .😮
Plus with all the shenanigans of the great Apogee solstice occurring for what, an in game month? That is crazy. Considering shows like adventure time can plausibly get away with being the result of post-nuclear fallout, I feel the same can be said for Exandria after this event!
I was screaming at Matt a couple times about some of the rules being ignored. But it's still fun to watch, and I'm not gonna attack him online. That's stupid.
@ thank you. And, was there a purpose for it? I kept thinking “is Ashton trying to plant an ally, a bomb…what does the seed even matter in that moment?”
@@ccreasmanAshton and Imogen promised the All-Minds-Burn fungal boss in Bassarus that they would plant its seed on Ruidus if it helped them at the time. So the reason is honor. It’s actually sweet that Matt honored their extemporaneous promise with a major boss puzzle at the end of the campaign.
I see a video about this episode, about critical role doesn't have any consequences towards the party and how weak ludinus was because he supposed to be the big threat of the campaign...
This new episode cemented for me the game is rigged and they are planning plot points. Literally nothing bad happens to anyone all campaign long, nothing with actual weight. Sam dies, but Sams characters always die. I'm so glad for you making the recaps or I would not be caught up on this campaign at all
Laudna and orym literally died (and fearne was about to), and Sam characters are all alive. Also we all know how DMs prep for sessions and campaings, to force story points doesn't make a game rigged, it's just literall storytelling, and also dice rolls.
Feels crazy a year ago was when Ashton exploded
Because they are progressing soooooo slowly. We've been on the same single storyline for 60+ episodes
A YEAR?!

I was so bummed I missed the live but I’m so glad I got this video before 4sd tonight!
Glad you reached the sub goal! Thanks for yet another amazing recap.

I think the blue clock is tracking the collapse of the Bloody Bridge.
And how long until we discover what the seed does?

The myceit and the room they all talked to them in gave me major Ravening War vibes 🤣
Same!!! I actually had a section in the script about it but I decided to cut it because the video was getting too long 😅

That was for the prototype the new one may not have that restriction or he forgot about it.
@@lockskelington314 He didn't forget. During the episode he specifically reminded the group that that was what its parameters were.
In CoolDown Matt confirmed it was prevented from being permanent. How Liliana could rebuild her strength is unknown completely

It feels criminal having to wait until next year but at least we have the critmas one shot coming

Essentially yes

Where did you get that background for your tv?
There was a cad lofi playlist critical role put out a while ago with that background
Found it! There is this one in wallpaper engine!
Engagement for the engagement god!
The devil works hard but critical role fan creators work harder
I try! 😝
two whole weeks! will we make it? stay tuned to find out! :O
