- Movie Hill Climbing HD, shot in Bernex, High-Savoy, France, 2009 - short version. Motorcycle climbing race.
Hill-climbing is an individual motorcycle race where the competitor is confronted with a natural, unpaved, extremely difficult coastline (more than 45% of gradient in general), or considered to be impassable. The goal is to get to the top as fast as possible or to climb as high as possible on the slope. Regulations vary greatly depending on the location and most often the gear used are prototypes.
Not to be confused with the Hillclimbing which takes place on traditional uphill roads and where time is the only discriminant. The impossible climb would be closer to the motocross.
This competition originated in the United States in the 1900s. The emerging brands of Harley-Davidson, Indian, and Excelsior motorcycles used coastal challenges to test their production. Hill-Climbing's first known event dates back to May 30, 1903. The NYMC (New York Motorcycle Club) organized an event at Riverdale Hill. It is considered one of the oldest forms of motorcycle racing.

And the awesome videography as well! Looks like tilt-shift lenses were used for many of the shots and provided a great effect. Rarely do you really get a feel for the steepness of the hill and surrounding area.
I don't understand a single word of French, but the language of the bikes, the hill, the beautiful country, the look on the racers faces, now that I understand, it is universal. Brought a smile to this old guy, remembering days and rides gone by, trying to conquer my own hills, with my Maico 490......
I really hope this hill climb keeps going for for many more generations. I really like the enthusiasm of the crowd.... reminds me of America of old....just such a good quality video, captures the warrior spirit of the racers perfect, thanks from Seattle.

When I was a kid there was this guy Malcolm Smith. He would go to hill climbs in California rain or shine and win with a stock motocross bike against the hill climbing specialist rides. The man was a genius rider and he proved its more about skill than rear swing arm ext., tire size, torque etc. Malcolm rode those heavy Husqvarna's and won many climbs as the only rider to the top. Hill climbing is one of the few bike sports that hasn't really changed much over time like trial riding, and road racing.
He probably didn't even run nail tires either lol.

@@bikersoncall there are 'spotters' that are responsible for making sure the bikes dont roll back down onto onlookers. Sometimes they 'catch' them rolling downhill. Their job would be even tougher w/ a 2 stroke motor wide open with a tire spinning like a wood chipper. Yes true.

When did it change?
They fail because they back off of the throttle. They do that because the front end raises and they lose nerve. The front end raises because they are not keeping their weight forward. Pretty simple.
I'm 60 and I still go playing in a nearby quarry on my 1972 Suzuki 250. You can't beat the adrenaline rush of surviving a heart-stopper when you push too far 😀
I'd bet that your '72 Suzuki could climb that hill better than any of them. Those bikes are too heavy and geared WAY too high for hill climbing. It's not about speed; it's about traction and enough horsepower to keep going. Slow and steady with some standard knobby tires and you'll get up there easily on any old dirt bike

I have never had a chance to travel and have always lived in USA. Videos like this make me realize how alike we are. This seems very similar to the hill climbs in Livermore Ca. except the hills are more lush in France.

The guy who ran about 80 feet down a mountain steeper than the stairs in my house while wearing motocross boots. Gets my vote. And he must have broken a speed record. He’s doing about 30 mph well done that man.
the green bike with the big bore two stroke went right up...light and nimble..and these guys with their stretched 800+ pound inline 4 street bike engine and spiked rear car tire struggle to beat the band!!!!

Okay now I've been watching it 17:11 & @ least three if not four Riders have made it to the top so how do you determine the winner is there a clock on this wall so. Just asking if anybody knows would be great to let me know thank you definitely looks awesome I've done my share of hill climbs but not necessarily like these. These are crazy. The ones where you're doing and gravel pits were crazy to a 300 feet to the bottom. And we're doing on CR125 CR 250 S Hondas. We also used to jump them one Gravel Pit into another at least to get some awesome hair 200 and some feet and distance. Actually blew the shocks out of my 125 one too many times dropping it from 10 to 15 ft in the air. Looks like a lot of fun.
This would be awesome to see live such a beautiful location skilled riders and being French most likely great food as well

Is there a rule against adding pegs to the back? Seems it would be best for the rider to put there feet back far as if lying down.

У всех одна и та же конструкторская ошибка! У своих мотоциклов (кроссовых, эндуро) спортсмены изменяют заднюю часть, но не изменяют переднюю! Им это кажется неважным. А на самом деле нужно максимально понизить высоту руля, укоротить или совсем убрать амортизаторы. Руль необходимо установить буквально на высоте переднего колеса, чтобы гонщик лежал вдоль мотоцикла. В нормальной поездке это будет неудобно, а при подъеме на гору спортсмену намного легче будет сохранять устойчивость!

Because they're using a phone as well which uses a 3-5 G frequency. And it's illegal it's called spoofing and is a punishable crime. There is also a component on you tube that searches for rogue transmission and on TH-cam it shows you how to make one or use one.

After I got my breath back they said you got a strong heart any normal person would have died in that situation. I have also had them put me in a situation with gang members that they claim are their muscle in real life, about 20 or more were in my downloaded dreamscape and I don't recall why they started shooting at me but it did not feel like any ordinary dream when I was getting shot at I could feel the bullets barely missing my head and the sonic boom of the bullets swaying my head. It was way to real these idiots got mad because, after the gun fire while still in the dream I just went to a girls house to laughed at the situation and then I woke up and I remembered the heart attack, I knew I could have died . the widow maker hill clime in the 70s and early 80s was the best inter world. point of the mountain
Draper Utah. Was eventually shutdown do to bikers, biker gangs, keg parties. drug use basically a very huge party that got worse as it grew in popularity. a very unattractive atmosphere for a venue that made appearances on ABC Wide World of Sports. the area was growing in upper class reality which drew a lot of complaints. big parties like that leave behind a lot of damage.
the hill though was brutal. the hill in this video is like a smooth track. the widow maker hill climb starts out raw. you would see sage brush being ripped out by huge knobby tires. WM was very steep.
bikes had extremely long swing arms the hill got taller each year.

Widow maker is the most ruthless hill of hell. after they stopped holding the event you could still ride in that area. i have more scars and aches from that hill than i can count. I HAVE A DISTANCE MARKER FROM WIDOW MAKER!!!! just a rusty piece of steel, but it sure makes people green with envy. born and raised in Draper ut.

I've watched a few videos of hillclimbing and no one uses a trial bike, is for any rule? Its just cause i think a trial bike and rider can make this blinded xD maybe I am a fool!

My buddy has a cr 500 that came with the extended rear but he took it off as soon as he bought it. It was a badass bike regardless.
