Never wear a label unless someone is paying you. That's some amazing advice I got in L.A.. The celebrities you see wearing big purses and t shirts with names on them are being paid to be seen out and about in them. If they're not paying you, and lord knows you need it more, don't do any designer any free favors.

I somewhat disagree. Usually designers do high quality products. In contrast we have fast fashion, cheaper but with worst materials and dangerous methods, don't caring for the environment neither for their workers. But in clothes there is a lot of issues.

So I am a single mother and a woman on a budget and I’m trying to build a nice wardrobe. I kept in mind your previous videos about looking for natural fabrics like wool, cotton, cashmere silk etc., as well as sticking to more neutral colours and classic styles. I grabbed a few things to try on and chose one of the items to purchase(for 4 dollars) and as I was putting the other items that didn’t fit back on the rack (this is thrift store shopping in an upscale neighbourhood)two ladies approached me and asked to see what I had put back. They commented “ you look so stylish and put together we wanted to see what you had picked out!”. I routed them to your TH-cam channel. Thanks Ana!

I have a friend who is very wealthy. They have multiple cars, yachts, private jets and properties around the world. My friend doesn’t wear many luxury brands at all. She simply doesn’t care. She is polished and classy, but very down to earth and fun. The point is, she doesn’t feel the need to flaunt her wealth. In fact, what I’ve learned through her, is that very wealthy people can actually be a bit embarrassed by their own wealth.

If you were wealthy, you would gave a private jet too. Things like private jets and multiple properties are more a lifestyle thing than a flaunt of wealth for most people. Why fly regular when you can afford your own private jet? Why not have a holiday home when you can afford it? Luxury brands and labels however are more of a status symbol.

    • @DeketaShanaye

It's all how you put it together. In an outfit from Kohl's that's styled right you might look fabulous.
On the other hand, a $20k designer look that's put together wrong can be a disaster.
Money spent on pieces that work across a wardrobe is always well spent. That's why they're called "investment" pieces.

@Contessa *LOL* If you knew me, you wouldn't say that. I can well afford it, I just think it's tacky to wear obvious labels head to toe. I will never own an LV logo canvas bag, for instance. I prefer bespoke fashion (most of my clothes are tailor-made for me), including my shoes (although several of the shoes I commissioned are suspiciously close to Manolo Blahnik, Ferragamo, or Valentino, but I am difficult to fit and those designers don't offer shoes in my size, so I take that as authorization to be "inspired" by them). I agree. I don't see the rationale behind the luxury skincare. I'd rather pay premium for organic formulated products or Korean/Japanese brands because you can actually see the results in a wide spectrum of people's skin. I've actually went one step further and learned to formulate my own organic formulations so I really know what ingredients go in there. Same stuff my kids use. I think what makes a woman look expensive has a lot to do with taking care of your body. Eating organic produce that's rich in nutrients, getting plenty of sleep, trimming your hair, cleaning your nails, and moisturizing your skin with plant based oils. anyone can throw on a diamond necklace and red lipstick, that doesn't make you beautiful - especially if you've done very little to take care of yourself. Put in the effort to nurture and nourish your body.

    • @sgrundyuk

Agreed. Being healthy, happy and well groomed is 90% of it. The other 10% is dressing well for your body shape and taking care of your clothing, no matter how much or little it cost. A clean pair of Clarke’s shoes look far more elegant than dirty scuffed Jimmy Choo’s.

I grew up in Alabama California near an Affluent neighborhood in Southern California. This neighborhood used to be an "Old Money" area that was very understated. The women wore Good quality clothing, but simple in tailoring, yet they always looked stylish. I worked in this area for a few years and i was always impressed with their manners, their kindness, and their hospitality. These were quality people on the inside, as well as the outside. I never felt uncomfortable around them, because they treated people with courtesy and dignity. Yes they had a lot of money, but unlike the nouveau riche they never came across as rude or snooty.
Life lesson for me was no matter what your station in life, always treat people with dignity and respect as it is a sign of good breeding.

seeing classy ladies is nice, but to me, the true classiness comes from within, it expresses itself through our character. the true classiness is having integrity, the strength of character and courage to do what is right - and also being loving and kind, respecting others as much as oneself and, above all, genuinely generous person. no amount of money can help with this.
btw. don't know exactly why i wrote all this - probably because i wanted to say that i'm similar to you when it comes to this channel (minus tattoos and military bit - but i've been to war, so that should count for something ;-) )

As a runway instructor, and model at my former talent agency,I taught several blocks of instruction grooming up and coming models. One block of instruction was dedicated on how to navigate a properly "high end" set table. For example the proper placement of utensils, the order of the utensils and which utensils are used for what and when).( the cheat sheet is to work "from the outside in) glasses, (water and wine), how to use and place the utensils on your plate to signal "still eating " or "finished" in case you must leave to use the ladies room and not have your plate taken. This is very important in high society and I highly recommend to dedicate a video on this topic. It is very crucial to do a video on this subject/instruction for all the elegant ladies who are transforming and navigating their way into high society. I am surprised this has not been covered or perhaps it has and I just have not seen a video on this absolutely crucial topic for navigating and entering high society.

My car is a subtle pink and my nails are long and pointy, but part of the transformation is not to sit there and be stubborn and offended from her pointing out it‘s not classy, but instead own it. Not everything has to fit the mold, but be self aware enough to realize that!

Couldn't agree more. Elegance--think of Audrey, Grace, or Anna here--requires,above all, immaculate grooming, which is very high maintenance, costly, and time consuming, for those over 30. I myself with my curls have never been able to manage the every-hair-in-place look. My grey roots need to be touched up every 2 weeks; sometimes I let them go a bit longer. Also, though I admire elegant women, my tastes run a bit to the boho. I approach elegance by taking good care of my nails, teeth, and hair, making sure that my clothes fit properly (I'm willing to spend on tailoring) and rocking a minimalist aesthetic when it comes to jewelry. I know that I will never be truly elegant, but I'm okay with that.

It’s really about how you wear it, not where it’s from. Mango, H&M, Zara all have clothing that when style in the right way can look sophisticated, elegant and expensive. How you look after clothing also makes a big difference.

As a watchmaker i agree with the "dont buy Gucci, prada etc". Just because i know it isnt worth it. Go and buy a watch that is simple, because it will never get out of style.
Search for a Company that produces the movement in the inside on their own. Like Rolex, patek.... If you dont want to buy something that cost that much. Buy a watch with a swiss movement.
Dont forget, watches last a lifetime if handled right! They need care! Like shoes, clothes etc. They need to see a watchmaker every 5-7 years. And that can cost up to 1000€. Even smaller good quality brands can cost about 500€ to get a revision! Those are things to think about, that is often forgotten. And those companies dont repair anymore, they switch broken things with new ones. If your braclett isnt good enough anymore in their eyes, they charge you 800€ more because you need a new one. And if you dont want to spend it, well you wont get it repaired. (Not all companies do that, but just let me tell you there are companies that do so)
Is it worth it to spend 8000€ or more on a watch? Yes.
Why? Those watches are machines that work every second if it is worn everyday. The work to create, build it takes a lot of time to create something that is precise and last a lifetime (even more). You can still get spare parts from watches that are 30 years old.
The quality is very high! everything has to be right or it wont work. So yes not only for the brand but also from technical perspektiv, it is worth it!
Excuse my beginner english, im working on it.
