I highly recommend it! The PC port of Chrono Trigger is a great way to experience the game and is currently half off on Steam :)

This game is a love letter to Ivalice, you can immediately tell the parallels it has to Final Fantasy 12, Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Advance. It also succeed at making the turn based system feel fresh and new. I am loving every single second of this. To me it doesn’t feel like Chrono Trigger, it feels like it’s own thing, despite drawing so much inspiration from CT and the Ivalice FF games, it manages to stand on it’s own. Nostalgia may have been the original idea of this game, but it has become its own being and an instant classic by itself.

    Great video!
I've never played both Chrono Trigger and Chained Echoes, but from the sounds of it, it seemed like you were really interested in the development histories and gameplay elements of them, makes me want to try out the games myself!
I'd like to see you do more long-form videos, while you do put alot of detail and effort into these videos, i think having more videos be around 20-30 minutes can make more of your opinions solid and more open for discussion.
Of course, i'm a random bystander on the Internet, so what i say probably doesn't matter, but i love this content and your editing is top notch! I'll be sure to stick around and see more of your videos!

Thank you for the kind words! I plan on doing a mix of short and long form videos going forward. Just don't expect multihour video essays from me, not a huge fan of those haha

Have you check Sea of Stars? I'm not really much into JRPG genre but many people compares it with Chrono Trigger and you might enjoy it.

I've heard good things but haven't had the time yet, might have to dive in if it wins indie GOTY at the Game Awards tho!

@@indiegameoasis It's really great but tooks some time. It took 40 hours for me to finish with true ending and extra stuff. Imo it should be either Sea of Stars or Cocoon.

Wow that's quite long. Hopefully I'll get around to it before it gets removed from Game Pass :P

I'm a fan of old-school RPGs and tried this game on Gamepass. At first glance it seemed to check all the boxes, but something about it felt lackluster and a bit hollow, which incidentally is how I feel about most nostalgia-driven games I've played. It's not a bad game, but... not great, and certainly not a classic. The thing about Chrono Trigger, in retrospect, is that even though the game wasn't particularly groundbreaking in terms of mechanics and some of the things in there haven't aged that well, it was made at a time when JRPGS were at the cutting-edge of game narrative and presentation. The way it all came together - story, music and artstyle - is what made it so unique and practically uncopiable, a lightning in a bottle situation. Not even Chrono Cross came close, and that was a fine game on its own.

Thanks for the insightful comment! You’re definitely not the only one with this opinion. I do touch on most of your points in the video, including that Chrono Trigger is a product of its time and can’t really be compared to modern JRPGs.
