    I am from Germany but live in London. I actually met Helmut. We talked a bit and the only thing he told me is to reduce sugar and don't eat anything with sugar. He looks so shredded. He can also do a split. Very impressive considering he is in his 50's.

      @@Moi_81 No it doesn't? Avoiding refined sugars is good, but sugar is a type of carbohydrate, something your body definitely needs. I maintained a 5% body fat for 6 months post show. I was so lean it was painful to walk due to having literally no fat on the soles of my feet, I was having vision problems and was fucking freezing 24/7. 5:50: On one hand, in the past, a part of me would have told me that being shredded buys happiness and women. But after months of following a nutritionnist on intuitive eating because I was (and still am a bit) being way to restrictive and overreacting to certain foods I perceived as pure evil (when I didn't before) as well as using the gym and exercice in excess to feel less guilty (basicly orthorexia). Especially since I was a fortunate person who not only never had any weight issues, but also never had to count macros due to my good relationship with my hunger and satiety cues as well as a following in general a diet rich in fiber, good protein and fats. Nowadays, I focus more on a realistic approach where I try to stay fit, muscular and slighty ripped on the abdomen, but not to an extreme degree since this is how I find a good balance between physical and psychological wellbeing. OS now I would say happiness over being shredded. Sorry for the long comment so here's a potato for you all. 🥔

      Bro haha ‘women’ won’t bring you happiness. Happiness comes from within. You may have came to that conclusion, idk I didn’t read the whole thing, but don’t think other people (women are counted as people..) will give you happiness. It comes from yourself only

    • @chi7818
      @chi7818 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’ve learned after 10 years of lifting that women don’t give a shit how shredded and strong you are. You will always be stronger than them which already means you are strong in their mind. benching 315 vs benching 225 is pretty much the same thing to them, and if you so much as have any kind of ab definition then you are golden.
      Of course there are the minority who actually care about how strong you are and how shredded you are but for them there are always bigger, stronger, more shredded guys than you so (most of which are on PED’s lol) so that’s an uphill battle as well.

    • @esmee6308

      @@esmee6308 haha yeah I wish I knew sooner instead of powerlifting for years, getting big and strong, and causing all kinds of stress to my body that it didn’t need.
      Tip for all the young people out there from some random guy, work out for your health and for some aesthetics. Use lower weight and more reps (10-15 rep ranges is what I do now) but still progressively overload for the gains. Focus on form and not weight because no one gives a shit how much you lift. They might be impressed for the moment while you do the lift but that’s it, not worth risking injury and the extra stress for your body. You’ll still get stronger and more aesthetic but it’s more sustainable. I mean that’s what all the older people do because it’s what works and it’s safer. Learn from us old guys lol.

    Calves. Train heavy, often and with everything. Smith Machine with blocks, or step built mine. Isolate as much as possible. I was doing 300-350lb on it. Just like everything else, you gotta train it hard if you want results. Do twice a week. And make it a muscle group. You do multiple exercises of triceps. Do the same for calves. There should be 3 different exercises for them. Calf machine, smith machine, single lifts with a plate on the edge of the smith. Use the leg press machine and max it as much as you can safely. Balls at the bottom of the platform, push hold, allow your heels to go past the platform.

I look good when I'm flexing, got 4 abs and decent shoulders/back despite not lifting, but when I'm slack, you can really see all the fat. I had pancakes the other day, got bloated, looked at myself and just felt miserable. I'm currently on a stricter running program (min. 250'/week) and keep my calories at ~15k/week. It's not bad from a diet perspective, I just avoid ordering out, eating deep-fried stuff and sweets, stuff like that, but it's like, progress is slow (duh) and I've been trying my best to be both in good physical and mental health. Something i suggest you try if your calves dont grow from calf raises and such, try sprinting and short-medium distance running, with emphasis spending as much time in the air/only the tip of your feet touching the ground while still trying to go as fast as you can which means your calves will be like springs, taking the brunt of your bodyweight + momentum, and also that requires maximum power exertion which is basically what you do when you try to lift heavy and i find that if you do really go hard, especially with the sprinting, you will get very sore calves and make them grow. If you did this and didn't get sore, then you didn't do enough volume. Calf raises and other calf exercises you can do at the gym are annoying and dont even give me the same results as sprinting and sprinting is a lot more fun.

    I used to train abs, guess they were really fatigued one day and BOOM gave myself an inguinal hernia. Now I stay away from anything involving core since the doc said I cant get the surgery until it's more serious.

    I got my BF down to low single digits when training for Ironman and still keeping in circuits and heavy weights. 5hrs a day on average. Yes I had no life except work and training and just ate salad, chicken and tuna. No choc or sweets ever. Sports drinks so didn’t bonk during long cardio sessions. I bonked a lot. I went to bed hungry every night and was freezing cold all the time.
