My heart would absolutely break and I am so glad that he loved it. I got such a big smile when he said It reminds him of geiger, somehow in a way I did Giger actually created the alien
This is legitimately a perfect movie imo. Script, acting, direction, cinematography, art design, production design, pacing, etc. Every major aspect of filmmaking is achieved at the highest level.
It's so true, this is one of the very few movies I can confidently recommend to anyone as a perfect movie, especially if watched on the 4k disc. The movie looks absolutely fantastic in 4k.
Matty, you mentioned Giger. Ridley Scott got a copy of Necronomicon (one of Giger's book, if I'm not mistaken, from dan o'bannon (one of the original script writers)and Ridley went crazy for it. Then, Ridley flies to HR Giger's house to talk to him, so he can get him to work on the movie. The whole alien design comes from the book itself pretty much. Giger himself made the Alien suit. And everything related to the alien planet, alien ship both outside and inside, the eggs, other than the facehugger, is all HR Giger. All of it. It's all his designs. And also, he was hands on with every single thing he design. Meaning, he wouldnt just draw something, he would make it all, mostly by himself when possible. Why the facehugger isnt his design? Cause the one he designed looked like a headless chicken, so they went with something else lol
Sorry to correct you but it was the chestburster that looked like the chicken. Someone else figured out that a smaller, baby version of the alien made more since than the original H. R. GIGER design.
Please do the ENTIRE ALIEN VS PREDATOR FRANCHISE!!!🙏🏻every single film from both, oh btw Indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull is not that bad‼️
Alien and Aliens have been two of my favorite movies since i first watched them 15ish years ago. In my opinion, they are perfect films. Had the opportunity to see Alien in theaters a couple weeks ago for the 45th anniversary screenings and it was amazing. So many small details i never noticed even after many rewatches. I.e. Ash drinking the milky liquid in the science lab long before the revelation that he is an android.
Alien is legitimately the only film I have watched as a kid where I asked myself - okay how tf did they do that and then spend the rest of my life buying books, watching documentaries and interview I could get my hand on and 30 years later I still do to this day. Alien Theory and Mr H Reviews are great channels for the lore btw.
Matty your take about the white 'blood' from Ash is spot on. I studied this film as part of my degree and there are a lot of academic writings about Alien. This scene is considered to represent part of the body horror of the movie and that it is 'that kind' of assault, also lots of 'pin-up' images on the walls of that part of the ship. Their are also female genitalia hidden in the set design of the alien ship to represent the birthing sequences in the movie, of which there are a few. Again this contributes to the body horror and fear of the other. These themes persist throughout the sequals as well. You should definitely check them out. Alien 3 is my favourite sequal.
Favorite movie of all time. It is incredible at every single aspect. And yes, playing Alien Isolation afterwards definitely gives you a different perspective. It makes the game "make sense" in a way.
The white android juice was DEFINITELY a deliberate decision. Geiger and Ridley were very outright in the sexual motifs that inspired the story and alien design.
HR Gieger was a lead designer on both Alien and Aliens. The creature itself is one of his best creations but the Space Jockey skeleton and environments of Aliens is where he truly shines. You have to watch the second film.
Fitting on the 45th anniversary of Alien for Matty finally watching an all time classic which makes me feel so old since I was born a year before Alien was released in the theater. Edit: Did....did Matty just say he tried playing Alien Isolation in college? Don't tell me that, please. I was watching the Alien movies probably before Matty was born.
As a lifelong fan, who’s seen it so many times like others, seeing it on a big screen is a fundamentally different experience like no movie I’ve seen. It’s so much scarier and I know the movie backwards. If you can see it projected anywhere bigger than even a big tv, do it.
@@RetroRewind12 It's your show ;) But highlight the C with some white behind to enchance it you know like film projector light. That would likely pop the C - only a suggestion.. love what yor doing mate
You say you love the Retro future design of this film but for them this was in the 70s and as close as they can get to the future with current technology. For that time it was futuristic.
22:08 So in Blade Runner the Humanoid robot Lore goes more in depth. There are ties between the Tyrell Corporation from Blade Runner and the Weyland Corporation from Alien. The 20th anniversary Alien DVD mentioned that Dallas, a character from Alien, received a paycheck from the Tyrell Corporation. The films share similar technology, especially in terms of the portrayal of artificial life. Thematic Connections: Ridley Scott, the director of both Alien and Blade Runner, has explored themes of humanity and artificial intelligence in both franchises. A movie that connects the two franchises, is the film Soldier, written by David Peoples, who was one of the screenwriters for Blade Runner. Soldier is considered a ‘sidequel’ or spiritual successor to Blade Runner and is said to be set in the same universe1. While Soldier is not directly related to the Alien franchise, its connection to Blade Runner and the shared elements between Blade Runner and Alien suggest a larger shared universe.
There's also text on a screen in Prometheus (sorry for bringing that dumpster fire up) that talks about the old man from Tyrell Corp. Another film that a lot of fans (myself included) consider to be set in the Alien universe is Outland starring Sean Connery.
@@kylekullin2520If you watch Alien and Aliens, here’s my take on how most people might want to approach Alien III: If you prefer Alien, then you are likely to find Alien III to be entertaining at least, but it probably still won’t blow your hair back. Matty, great call on associating the tech/sci-fi aesthetics of the movie with Starfield. Great discussion! I just watched this film in the cinema for its 45th anniversary. Such a different experience on the big screen. This and Alien 3 are my personal favorites of the series.
There's 2 bad shots in Alien, both involving the alien itself. When the alien reaches out to grab the captain in the vents and the shot of the alien after getting sucked out into space. They had it too well lit and showed too much of the costume. The vent scene is hilarious because it looks like a guy throwing his arms forward while yelling BOO!
The Jazz Hands is always funny on a screen compared to in cinema projected image, somehow the image just seems to linger longer and you notice more due to the way the display tech works.
@sonicsean34 Yeah, I just wish they did something else instead of the jazz hands. Do a shot over Dallas's shoulder where we see the alien open its mouth or have the alien just move its head and neck outwards towards camera. Almost anything would have looked better than jazz hands lol. The last alien shot is a lot tougher. It needs to be lit well enough for us to see what's going on, but that much lighting with the camera so far back, we see everything which gives away the guy in a suit. Maybe having the actor do a different pose, something more animalistic, would have kept the illusion better. Much tougher shot though.
Right, like how could he not be aware that Giger has had a huge role in the making of the entire series and has been there since the beginning, even being the catalyst for the iconic Xenomorph
Prometheus, the prequel to all the alien movies has a ship in one of the first scenes that looks like its ripped straight outta Starfield. That whole landing sequence is awesome made me wish landing on a planet in starfield was just as cool. they also come out with land rovers and not a jetpack lol
It's not Geiger style Matty. It was H.R. Geiger who designed the creature, alien ship, and the space jockey. FYI the space jockey was the giant the guy whobsaw the movie before had forgot.

I’ve always been a Crystal Skull defender since it came out, but I honestly do think that time has been kind to the movie and it has aged pretty well, It’s been 16 years since its release and I think it fits just nice along the first 3 films. Definitely give it another shot especially if you haven’t seen it since 2008, the movie might surprise you.
Watch Alien, Aliens and the extended version of Alien³, then stop! A few fools will talk shit about Alien³ but they don't understand the true themes and vibes of the series.
Every film after 3 ranges from problematic to hot trash. You can feel free to watch Prometheus or AvP but go in with EXTREMELY low expectations.
