    I would certainly be open to getting my hands on one of these. It doesn't look overly complicated, and there are several repeaters in my area that are in the process of getting converted to Fusion.

    I’ll definitely be purchasing this. I already have an ftm 400 but I’m looking for a second dual band radio. The ability to scan groups of memory stations is key. Which will basically allow dual listening in the scan mode but without the cost of the second receiver. Also YSF is primary digital in my area so that’s a plus. Great vid. Got it out FAST

    I'm in the process of studying to get my technician license and have always had CB's but I have been looking at the wouxun kg-uv980p. It seems to have good reviews and I figured I should just get a quad band that way I'm not limited though I think I read that I would need the general license to use some of the bands on it. I'm a total newb and have been learning about the stuff by watching this channel and ham radio crash course. Figured a quad band radio, a btech 50 watt GMRS radio and my CB I will have all the bases covered in my truck.

    • @thebugg333
      @thebugg333 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Research those quad band radios before you dive into it. You will have to get an antenna that supports those bands; most are dual bands and with supply chain the way it is good luck finding a tri (or quad) band antenna that's good at the job at a decent cost without high SWR. Also, are those other bands in use in your regional area, and will they work with the current solar cycle?...if not you may as well get a dual band that has some sort of digital mode then go up from there to HF. .Not an expert (still a noob learning from returning many radios and antennas), someone who just just became and Extra after having a tech license for a month; take it as a grain of salt.

    • @ninjazxd
      @ninjazxd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thebugg333 didn't know that. I've always been under the impression more is better but I never researched past the radio as far as antenna options. So a dual band is the most logical choice? I don't know anyone with radios in their trucks except for CB so I have no one to ask or to see what they are running. Thanks for the reply it definitely is going to help.

    • @thebugg333
      @thebugg333 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ninjazxd more is better, but understand the bands being available on the radio and if they are easily usable and if you want to talk locally, regionally or world wide...wants most important is the use of those additional bands outside of 2meters and 70cm. Getting more for the buck is nice...but is it going to be used and is anyone on the other side.

    Unfortunately in our area in SW Minnesota we are rich in repeaters but there is hardly any traffic on them. I have the 100, 400 and the FT2DR and wish I hadn’t bought those and saved that money for HF equipment. The only saving grace for Yaesu is their Wires-X capability. Even our local Wires-X repeater system has very little traffic on it. I use my 100 attached to a computer as a node and my 400 in my mobile. When I travel far away I bring my FT2DR along but surprisingly there is very little traffic long the way. No more 2m 70cm purchases for me. HF all the way.

    • @Medic-ui9ms
      @Medic-ui9ms 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea, WIRESX is nice, link a bunch of low to moderate use repeaters and you can have a pretty busy room. DARC used to be a pretty busy but there’s a lot less traffic than there was even three years ago. I have a couple thousand invested in Fusion gear and pretty much only use HF these days.

All my gear is yeasu except for the G90

    Is Standard making a simular business band radio, and producing a dual band ham rig so to reduce costs?
    I do like the 80w 2m rig. You are right. Y is putting out new product.
    I do not need a new rig. But if I needed a dual band rig, a simplified "George Jetson" model would peek my interest, that is analog only.
    But even pur analog, a digi port for Packet/Winlink/Vara would be nice.
    And put mile ports on both the control head AND main body for versatility in mounting and use.

    If the price is right, could be a cheaper way to get into YSF in a mobile platform now that the cheaper options are discontinued (the fixed screen dual band and single band options).
    Otherwise, might be a hard sell if it's not much cheaper than the 300.

    Newer radio models in the FTM line have lower model numbers and smaller screens. (Although the 300 & 200 have the same 2-in screen. Still smaller than the 400.)

    I don't really understand this radio, it's not cheap enough to be worth saving a few bucks over the 300. Also, the 300 isn't in stock anywhere, so instead of making more of THAT radio they're splitting production between it and the new 200. Maybe someone can explain it to me but I'm confused as to why this radio exists.

    If the price is right I might be very interested, I love my FTM-400 in my car, had it for years, want to add a good 2m/440 radio and base antenna to my home shack this spring, APRS and C4FM are a bonus, but… I already have a FTM-400, buying another is pretty spendy for something I mostly think of as “mobile/local” bands

  • @slosolo2

    If the price is $399 no I won't buy the ftm200dr I'll just spend $60 more and get the ftm300dr. The 200 is enough radio for me but getting the bluetooth and a second receiver for $60 is a better value. I'm sure the Yaesu marketing guys struggled to position this and not harm either the FTM6000 or FTM300

  • @paulnickel7602
    @paulnickel7602 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hmm, it doesn't impress me. I'm still waiting for Yaesu to build a FTM radio that has memory banks, like on my FT-70 & FT-60. Sure, the FTM-200 has the ability to store over 1000 frequencies in its memories. But why? I'm in Dallas and as such, I have over 20 repeater channels stored in my ICOM 2730 memory bank A. When I drive to the San Antonio area, I switch to scanning memory bank B, because I then have ZERO interest in scanning the Dallas repeaters. The same is true when I drive to the Houston area, memory bank C. Why does Yaesu call the FTM 300 or 200 a "mobile" radio, when scanning the memories only makes sense for those that either aren't mobile or, they never travel outside of their hometown. The FTM 200 might be useful as a base unit (to replace my FTM-7250), but for true, wide-area mobile usage, my FT-70 or even my old FT-2 outperforms it easily. C'mon Yaesu, you need to add memory banks to ALL your mobile FTM units. (And a "temporary channel skip" would be a nice addition too). Thanks, Jason for the quick info on the newest Yaesu product.
