When the wreck happened with Rosenqvist and Kirkwood I was thinking they were VERY slow to throw the red flag given the amount to debris. So if they had thrown that sooner, then maybe there would've been more racing laps at the end. As for the final restart, all the drivers are restarting under the same conditions (Not withstanding that the leader is usually a sitting duck) and I think even a 1 lap race is better than a finish under the yellow, it's a race, not a parade to the checkered.
Ericsson is right to be upset and Newgarden is right to celebrate. A controversial ending but certainly entertaining. Whens the last time we had a last lap pass?
I wanted Josef to win the Indy 500 for a long time and here he is finally kissing the bricks! Definitely worth it and showing Marcus Ericsson who is a true Indy winner. Sad that Pato O'Ward and Alex Palou didn't get to win this year's Indy 500 but they will next time if ever.
0:10 I think this is the instantaneous decision that won the race for Newgarden. He didn't follow Ericcson down to the wall the last time, because he new Marcus would have to come back outside for the turn. He was able to maintain his draft with the cars behind, and when Ericcson came back outside, he was just that much closer to set himself up for a run and a pass.

Fox will NEVER top this level of emotion OR let the ambience play out. It was THAT amazing. Newgarden finally winning the race that long eluded him, the broadcasters hyping it up, then stepping aside to let the picture tell the story. Fox will NEVER do that, EVER. several years ago the story started making the rounds that the 500 was becoming irrelevant. Watch Newgarden go into the crowd and tell me it's irrelevant. My son was down there today and he texted me during that last red flag while they were sitting in the pit and he said you could cut the tension with a knife.
After the first weave to the green flag, newgarden said, “nope, just going to maximize my speed down the straight to get the run out of turn 2”. They had jumped ferrucci at the start and had plenty in hand to go Mano a Mano.
