Not really, so many songs in the 2010s started inserting random dubstep in their tracks that it really doesn’t set it apart from other pop songs of our time
They probably thought it fit better. And it's generally frowned upon to have repeating parts (pre-chorus/chorus/post-chorus) significantly change because it becomes harder to remember. Is this the first chorus? The third chorus? It's easier if it's just "The chorus." Legs & Heels / Nails & Perfume vs. Nails & Heels / Nails & Perfume

Nikki wrote this by herself & did a great job, Mitch only produced it, hence he was listed as a songwriter, she did not want to use it because by the time she was ready to record her album it was 2 years later, this was song was shopped around and Demi picked it up, they clearly used some of Nikki's vocals on Demi's like in the chorus, that electronic part at 0:08 and the big note at 2:27 and the whole bridge too. Anyway, they both win, Demi gets a big hit and Nikki gets tons of money for the songwriting credit
OKzs The big note in the official version is sang by Demi for sure!!! They are both very talented but there’s no reason Demi would put a different vocalist’s high note!
Demi writes most of her songs, this was one of the exceptions. She didn't change the song's structure drastically because she thought it wouldn't be respectful to the original songwriter.
I adore the final version of the song but I think they should’ve had an extended version with the dubstep on the album as a deluxe track! That would’ve been sick!
Something to remember...there is a reason they call it a demo...while Nikki's version sounds like it is finished, (because she is a vocal master and everything has a decent balance) it is not. This was made to be enough to get the point across to the record company, which they weren't interested in for Nikki, because they wanted to go a different direction. Obviously, since the record company wasn't wanting to get behind it, Nikki's work stopped there to focus on other songs. No improvements or changes made to her version mixing or vocally, because at this point the song was dead. As the rumors are floating around say, (which are 100% true) Nikki started from scratch writing the song, and quite a bit of the lyrics (most in fact) we hers, and of course all of the vocal parts. When Demi heard the song and took it over for her album, she took it to the next level because it was already to go and she as an artist has a lot of power in the industry. She is a known artist who picked a song they wanted to do, the label of course approved (because they knew the song would be a hit), it's a done deal. (Note ,that this doesn't work for artists in the developmental stage as Nikki was) During Demi's taking over the track, she kept all of Nikki's Background vocals, added her own lead parts as well as some of her own BG vocals (like the higher notes that everyone keeps talking about that Nikki could easily have done), changed a few words, cut out the dub step part, etc. All in all though, this song says a lot about who Nikki is, and that makes it her song not matter what, because that is her soul for everyone see, well, hear.
i guess she does get a bit shouty at certain live performance but i dont think heart attack studio is one of them, her belts sounds full and resonant to me. what i dislike about her is she lowers her lyrnx too much for my taste. th-cam.com/video/yxkOvo-Miyc/w-d-xo.html this is one of her best mixed note. now that i think about it i get your point, its a preference thing i suppose, demi could be considered more shouty compared nikki i guess :D but still that doesnt mean demi shouts, its just the lower lyrnx and big open sound kinda of technique
One of the best demo versions for song that I've heard thus far! I personally prefer Demi's voice, as it is in my opinion richer, stylistically versatile and more powerful. Plus my favorite part of the song is that very high note Demi added in the last hook.
